Hello all,
I've been playing through the Great House Hlaalu story and believe I've found a large bug. I have worked with Nileno up to the quest: "The Death of Ralen Hlaalo". Before I started this quest, I had done 'Vintage Brandy" quest for the Thieves guild and also killed Thanelen Velas. When I ask Nileno about 'business' she tells me to look into Ralen's murderer. Then she suggests I may already know who did it. The quest is frozen here. If I ask about 'business' she just repeats this line. For a while I could not advance either. Then randomly she advanced me to kinsmen, told me she had no more work for me and to see Curio. (Perhaps a bug fix that came with ob_34?) Curio hasn't any work for me. He also hasn't suggested I talk with Odral Helvi. I took the initative, and to my distress, he asks me if I'm there on business but doesn't offer me any. I also have an active quest to build up my stronghold, which seems a bit premature as I havn't done any of Odral's quests yet.
I assume this is some sort of bug and would love to see it resolved. I just finished the main quest (which I failed to do on vanilla morrowind. It was exciting to see!) and I'd love to get back to being the head of House Hlaalu. Again, you guys have done a downright stupendous job on this resurrection. Thanks for your hard work!

ps. Also, another small bug I noticed: After completing the Fighters Guild's 'Bandits in Suran' Quest, I've talked to the mayor and recieved 1000 drakes and then talked to the fighter's guild quest starter (Percius Mercius), and yet the quest remains active (instead of complete). It's pointing me back to Percius even though all his text is grayed out.
Strange. Hopefully this gets fixed because I was going to join house Hlaalu.
I am having the same problem as I am also doing the Nileno quests,all ok up to the quest: "The Death of Ralen Hlaalo". The quest is frozen here.And "Business" is greyed out.
In fact the quest is not getting activated some how.
I have solved the problem,if you do the "Fort Moonmoth captain`s litte story" quest and take the monor key from one of the five "bad people" you will not be able to start the "The Death of Ralen Hlaalo" guest because the key should be given to you by Nileno.
But if you already have the manor key she will not start the quest because she thinks you have already solved it,that is why she says that she thinks that you already know the killer.
The solution could be to remove the key from the guy who has it in the CS.

In morrowind I have done this quest many times without joining house hlaalu. I normally pick the lock in the side door (up the stairs to the right of the front door then jump over the wall) to gain access. then report the body to nileno and agree to try to bring the killer to justice. I've never actually been given a key to the place, but have done the mission many times.
After further investigation I have realized the the key on Thanelen Velas is not the key to the manor that the crime is commited in,so in fact it is the actual killing of him that is important.
To explain,if you do the "Little Story" Quest and kill Thanelen Velas,then you will not be given the chance to do the HH quest.
So just do that HH quest before the Little Story quest.Or I quess Thanelen Velas could be resurected after you have reported back to the Captain at fort moonmoth.will work on it.
Is there a way that killing him could trigger both quest stages?
Like killing him makes the 'naughty people' go away and also jumps you to the part of the quest where you take vengence on him for the Hlaalu quest?
The UESP article at http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:The_Death_of_Ralen_Hlaalo mentions how the game is suposed to react to killing Velas before starting the Death of Raven Hlaalo quest. That might be useful.
feel like im just shouting in the wind with no answers, but im haveing the same problem: killed velas before i joined HH, and now cant even start this quest. Nileno just say's"ralen hlaalo is dead, i would ask you seek vengance, but perhaps u already know of the murdere?" which i shouldn't do to not ever talking to any one about his death, and now lack the ability too. if some one knows of how to console complete morroblivion quest, i would greatly appreciate the knowledge. till then, im stuck as an oath man in HH.
After extensive testing, here is a patch that fixes this issue. There were three or four errors in the dialog conditions on this quest.
