Steam = No Skyrim 4me. Quo vadis, Bethesda?

Submitted by TheWispheringofRain on

12%. PC players are dying out it seems when reading the Bethesda selling data.

I would have proudly joined this rare league, sound and compute power well-prepared. Seeing dragons, water running down the roof, staff and sword ready, ignore the usually boring main quest to breathe Skyrim air and mood.

Not that I would expect Morro to return. Morro was...different, a world so unexpected and intense, you would believe every stone and word, not because of the graphics but its atmosphere.

But steam? Gladly I buy the game, and every Euro is spent well given the wonderful work Bethesda has done over all these years. I would pay more. But let me walk in the store and get my DVD, return home, and enjoy the game.

Can it be that there is not a clever freak out there who has an idea of how to install a genious copy protection? Or is it all about knowing the customers now, checking their habits, their lives, what they do and like.

No Skyrim. Sorry Bethesda. Still I admire you for Morro.

I know how you feel, TheWhisperingofRain (cool name btw), though I would still reccomend you buy SKyrim.

I had a Skyrim party on the 10th / 11th. I had two friends bring their 360s and one bring a ps3, and I bought it for PC. All preordered it, all bought a copy. We got home around 1:00am. It was not intll around 8:00am the next morning that I got Skyrim to work. Steam spent 6+ hours downloading the game, then had corrupt files. It was wretched. I watched my friends play the games effortlessly for hours, while steam prevented me from doing so. Uggg. So yes, I still hate steam, but I think Skyrim is worth it. It seems that if you run Skyrim in offline mode, you can exit steam and play it steam free from then on, which I do.

ps. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure putting games on steam really doesn't prevent hacking and game stealing anyway. Blech.

Yeah steam games have been cracked just like any other. I bought the PC version on CD, I was pretty pissed when the downloadable part was large enough to cause a significant wait, despite only being 4% of the total game. Guess thats a combination of Steams crap servers, my country's crap internet and everyone downloading Skyrim at the same time.

Or if you want to play it without steam. You can buy it from store, than crack/download it from internet, both keeping your conscience clean and without steam.

Ya. I was about "this" close to doing exactly what Darth South just said. But then I realized that after the initial install and regestration (and stupid folder hierarchy), its good old Skyrim without the steam residue. I don't even have to start steam now to play. So that's an upside.

Raditz. Man do I know exactly how you feel. I'm in America, but I'm in a rural area where, while we are paying for 4mbs, we are getting around .25 mpbs. So ya, and with the combo it literally took from 1:00 am to around 7:00 am just do download. =/

I feel for you iceburg,it only took about 1 min to get it down and installed in the UK.

But I have a problem, when I level up it is ok,but how do I pick what perks to save each level.?

Thanks Ironman. I wish my internet was like that, lol.

How do you mean?

When you level up, go to your skills. Immediatly you will choose health, magicka, or stamina. Then it will say "You have x unused perks." Then you just click a perk on the tree to purchase it. If you want to save it, just don't do a tree.

ps. Found this sweet perk calculator people may like. The link is to my current musings, but I've found that if you change it to what you want to do, you can save/ copy/bookmark that link to save your progress. (The link changes with every change you make, so make sure to update your bookmark when your done tweaking!)

What I mean`t was,I am ok with picking the health/magika/stamina bit and see the x amount of perks bit,but I just can`t find anything on the page to add one or save it.

And do we have to pay gold for the perks then.?

If so maybe thats the reason as I only have 140 gold at this time.LOL.

If you are in the perks thing with the stars and constellations, just double click on one of the stars that you want to select (it has to be blue, not red) and then it will ask you if you want to choose that as your perk.  I think you can also press "Enter" when you have the perk selected as well.
