FPS comparison between Morroblivion and Morrowind+MGE+Mods?

Submitted by bohratom on

HI,

I recently upgraded my Morrowind to the "morrowind overhaul upgrade" which includes alot of mods and MGE/XE. Before the mods/graphic upgrade I would get a good 50fps in the opening town. After the upgrade I get around 20fps and it seems thats about the best I will do using the mods/MGE/XE if I want the improved graphics/shaders. Im wondering if others have seen a FPS gain by going the Morroblivion route instead?

I get 60fps with Oblivion with all settings high atm so my thinking is Morroblivion should be in the same ballpark but before I go through installing it I was wondering what other people have seen with fps?

Also if this question has been asked before can you point me to the url.

thanks

I don't think anyone has done an FPS comparison.

In any case, which one is better in terms of FPS would depend on your hardware.  I could set up a computer that would make Morrowind + MGE etc have better FPS, and I could set up a different computer that would make Oblivion have better FPS.

If you get 60 FPS with Oblivion, then you should get at least 25-30 FPS in a city in Morrowind.

Only one way to find out though.

morrowinds engine is old and can't take advantage of modern systems.  From what I understand you'll always get lower fps than in a newer game like oblivion if you ramp up the graphical quality and draw distance in MW.

there are some projects in the works to port mw to a more modern graphics engine using the original resources but they'll be a long time coming.

MWOB is definitely worth a look, its an awesome mod.  only thing you miss out on are all the great mw mods. But then you get all the OB mods so its all good.

I suggest playing both.

sorry, lol, to answer your question. you get the same kind of fps in morroblivion as you get in the rest of the gmae.  Modded MW low fps is due to the way it was programmed.  i get maybe 40 fps on average playing oblivion.  i get about 25 to 30 when playing morrowing.  both games are heavily modded.

hope that helps

If your system runs oblivion better, then morroblivion should have a better fps than regular morrowind+graphics upgrades. Id recommend you dont apply the new textures that are available for morroblivion though. As great as they are, when I was running them on my laptop I noticed a serious FPS hit when moving from the Oblivion world to the Morroblivion world.
