Why the need to own morrowind?

Submitted by Orifice on

If  I understand this properly, there are no actual Morrowind resources or assets used in this mod, and the only thing from Morrowind included is the storyline.

If this is so, then Why do we need to own Morrowind to play this  mod?

If all that this mod needs from morrowind is story/lore then ownership of Morrowind is superfluous because no other mod that uses past story and lore as part of it's makeup requires additional game ownership beyond Oblivion.

It's just a question mind!  I'm not trying to cause trouble or anything!

There seems to have been a misunderstanding.

Morroblivion is at its very heart a conversion\port of TES3 content over to the TES4 game engine. It is not a remake like SOVVm, Silgrad Tower, Vvardenfell Recreated etc. Morroblivion does make extensive use of (modified) Morrowind resources, including meshes, textures, sound, video and text.

As such it is essential for you to own TES3:Morrowind before you are allowed to legally play Morroblivion.

Orifice, nothing you have said is correct. Do some other research into what circumstances Bethesda allows the modification of their DLC Content. And yes, Morroblivion definitely uses resources from Morrowind, although indirectly. It is, and always will be, a requirement to have Morrowind, Tribunal, and Bloodmoon installed on your computer to play Morroblivion.

Hey, as offbeat as Orifice's question seems, its a great one to ask. The answer to this question maybe should even be on an FAQ or packaged with the install instructions, because everybody playing Morroblivion should know. Hopefully knowing that answer will also cut down on people pirating the games as well.

I've said this before and I'll probably say it again: I really dig that even though Morroblivion is a 'banned' site, it (David) still works to maintain integrety and support Bethesda for the great games they've made. It's really refreshing to see. :)

Well it would appear that my assumptions were wrong then!

That's told me!
