I Still Start in Oblivion

Submitted by presentdent on

Topic Title says it all. I downloaded the Complete Installation, along with the voice-over mods, and I still start in Oblivion, in the Imperial Dungeon (though I hear rather different music than usual).

First off, you should know I manually installed. My Oblivion folder is localed in C:/Users/Public/Games/Bethesda Softworks, and I installed everything into Data, except Oblivion Script Extender, which had special instructions. Meanwhile, Morrowind is installed in steamapps under Program Files, because I had to buy it through Steam (local Gamestop no longer carries it).

Should I reinstall? Is there a step I missed? I'm not using the Oblivion Shortcut. I'm using the OBSE_Loader.

You need one of the extra "transport" mods that take you to Vvardenfell otherwise you will always be in Cyrodiil with no access to the morrowind content (without commands), they can be found here:

morroblivion.com/forums/morroblivion/mods/2031

Just scroll down to "transport between worlds" and take your pick ;)

If you use one of the new versions of Windows you need to install Oblivion somewhere other than "C:/Users/Public/Games/..." and not in a 'Program Files' folder either. Oblivion chokes when it's installed in the 'Games' folder and the programs folder messes it up too ... (blame Microsoft)

I use "C:\Oblivion".  (works fine)

If everything is installed correctly, the Morroblivion mod starts in the prison ship with Jiub waking you up and the Guard coming to escort you out of the ship to Seyda Neen.

I installed Chargen And Transport (CAT) mod v8 and I moved Oblivion out of Users/Public/Games. Still no go. I am supposed to use the OBSE_loader to start the game, right?

1) you probably didn't need to move your oblivion installation

2) try moving the CAT mod down to the very bottom of your load order - you probably have some other mod installed that conflicts.

And Morrowind_ob.esm is checked right?

I've been manually installing for Oblivion (The Nexus Mod Manager is wigging out for me, and not registering Oblivion. ONly Skyrim and Fallout 3 come up). How do I check the load-order and check various mods that way?

I got annoyed and installed Wrye Bash. Checked everything. Now it works. The only issue now is that the dialogue goes by far too fast. I have the Oblivion Script Extender. Don't know what's going on.

You need to install Ely's silent voice, which is a plugin for OBSE.  It is linked on the Complete Installation Thread and listed as a requirement.  Please read and follow the instructions, that's why they are there.

Nexus mod manager is still way too basic and unstable for Oblivion.  It works OK for Skyrim, but really not for anything else.

I just re-installed Silent voices, but the directions it gives don't line up with what I have in my folders. It goes: Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion/obse_0020/src/Plugins (which I changed from plugins_example). Where am I supposed to direct Elys' Silent Voices?

Elys' Silent Voice files go into the Data\OBSE\plugins folder.

And to adjust mod load order use the OBMM [just do a seach for it].

And make sure that the Morrowind_ob.esm is listed straight after Oblivion.esm.

There is no Data\OBSE\plugins folder. There is only an obse_0020 folder and an "src" folder within it.

Morrowind is lined immediately after Oblivion, yes.

If the Data\OBSE\plugins folder doesn't exist, create it.

Always check the easy things first. Is Morrowind_ob.esm Active? If you start a new game with Morrowind_ob.esm active, then you start in Vvardenfell, not Cyrodiil. So, if you start in Cyrodiil, then one of two things happened. Either you don't have Morrowind_ob.esm ACTIVE, or, you have some other start mod that is conflicting. Morrowind loads right after Oblivion, so ANY other mod will override it. I believe CAT gives you options if you start a new game, so if this isn't happening, then check your load order, and check that everything is Activated (and that nothing is conflicting).

One thing that I have noticed is that you have the OBSE files in the wrong place too.

The obse files go in the Oblivion root folder, and you do not need the obse_0020 folder, just the files that are inside of that folder when you download the archive.
