Morrowind (with graphic mods and extender) vs Morroblivion (with graphics mods and OBGE)

Submitted by Apav on

Hey guys,

So I just started up Morroblivion for the first time and I think I'm experiencing a bug or texture issues. I can understand if this was vanilla oblivion, but the textures seem all blurry to me. In fact, I took some screenshots. And my eyes might be deceiving me because I'm tired, but I actually think Morrowind looks better here. I downloaded a lot of mods for oblivon, the biggest one being eloth's Visul Overhaul. Did I not install correctly? Or is this supposed to be like this? Please help! Thanks :)

Here are some pictures(I'll link them since they're very large:

P.S. Ignore the naked lady in the Morrowind pic she's a part of the MCA mod but not sure why she's naked :P

Yes, some textures in Morroblivion are not as hi-res as in Morrowind Overhaul package (or whatever graphic mods you are using), but it is better in other areas (support for normal maps, character models and animations etc.).
Also, I'd recommend enabling Anisothropic Filtering for Oblivion. It will significally improve blurry distant textures like in your first screenshot.

Thank you! Btw, what is better quality, HDR (can't turn AA on) or bloom with AA on?

I use HDR (with Luminance HDR OBGE module) and AA shader for OBGE

The Morrowind screenshots are really hi-res, but they are so flat and it makes the poorly modelled NPCs look out of place. I also get the feeling that the Morrowind screenshot just looks faker, not sure why. I think Morroblivion looks more realistic, even if it isn't as hi-res.

This just my 2 cents worth, but I think that the external graphics in your oblivion screenshot look more realistic, the morrowind shot looks....umm..old and flat.

I will admit that internal scenes look better in morrowind...depending on your viewpont, but overall I think that the morroblivion graphics win.

But that`s just the way I see it I quess.

well Ironman of course they appear flat ! morrowind was made back in 2002 when when nornal maps werent commonly used then, the common stratagy was to make as detailed mesh and textures as you could without going overboard poly wise morrowind actually has the ablity to us bump maps but that requires both gloss and reflection maps and the over all effects is still not up to par with oblivion. but you can still achieve some pretty cool effects with it ( I have). strangly I find morrowind more appeasing, oblivion is really bright and this seems strange for morrowind it just doesn't sit right for me. I also find that good detailed textures can just as effective as those with normals and parralax, or are high definition a texture does not have to be 4096 to look pretty ....although I do have my limits morrowinds default 128 or 256 textures were pretty damn ugly.

Elderago:  That is why Skywind is going to be so amazing.  It will have that dark, more morrowind feel, plus greatly updated gameplay and graphics.  The best of both worlds. :)
