A mod idea.

Submitted by Paroditean on

This isn't a mod request, just an idea. I haven't heard anyone talk about doing this before, which is strange to me, because it seems to be a pretty awesome piece of lore that, like many great things in the ES universe, never made it into the actual games.

Wouldn't it be great to have a mod that became active after completeing Morrowind's main quest in Oblivion, a mod focusing on the story of Vivec when he travels to Cyrodiil for his trial about murdering the original Nerevar? That story is lore-heavy, there would be a lot of dialogue, but some good action things to do as well, like gathering the items needed to summon Azura and eventually actually summoning her, or tracking down and getting the horn of an ancient Were-deer.

" A Breton scholar Louis D'Onus agrees to give his shadow. Stri'Ker, the Khajiit scholar, and a scholar named Mafafu travel to the High Rock to procure the antlers of the King Dead Wolf-Deer. Ainoryl gives information about the antlers, he says, "King Dead Wolf-Deer is one of the surviving monster-mer of the Wild Hunt that slew Borgas of Skyrim. He is thus one of the oldest creatures in Tamriel, and therefore no trifle. That he exists still to haunt High Rock thousands of years later speaks to the danger of retrieving his antler-crown."

However the hunting in the High Rock does not work well. Stri'Ker is killed in the process, although he manages to kill the beast. Mafafu comes back to the council with the antlers and the bad news. The Council mourns the death of the Khajiit scholar. "

Many great characters make appearances in the story, like Sheogorath and Divayth Fyr.

Concerning the Wild Hunt mentioned in reference to the Wolf-Deer:

" The Wild Hunt is a ritual known only to the Bosmer shamans of Valenwood. This ritual act is reserved to protect Valenwood from invading forces. It permanently transforms all participants into mindless, blood-thirsty monsters who first consume all of their enemies and then themselves. The Bosmer have noted that all monsters in the world were born from previous Wild Hunts. The ritual is also performed at the end of each era, as a ritualistic practice within Valenwood."

That in and of itself would be a very interesting thing to expand on in-game. It fits so perfectly into the setting of Oblivion. The PC would be able to witness them conducting this shamanic ritual because the Daedra from Oblivion are invading Nirn, and it would make sense Lore-Wise for the Bosmer of Valenwood to therefor perform it. The PC would fight through the abominations and eventually find and confront the Wolf-Deer to acquire the necessary antlers for the invokation of Azura. There is a project which has a basically completed Valenwood for Oblivion too, exterior-wise.

"Valenwood Improved" on TES Nexus.

In the story, a ringlet from the Wraithmail of Alandro-Sul must also be acquired, which allows Sul's spirit to be channeled.

Really there is enough material in the Trial for a whole expansion pack type deal.

I prefer the Valenwood by windsurfer tbh. Here are the "legacy models", though I tried to contact him for permission and he didn't reply :S http://www.gamefront.com/files/20997083/Valenwood+Islands+ESM+v1.5.rar

Indeed, that one looks good. But this one has a great Arenthia, and there is a large mod that takes advantage of it.

Apparently the Bosmer use an entirely different form of magic to enact the Hunt. There is Thuumic power, the Swordsinging and the Shehai, traditional Aetheric magic, the tonal architecture of the Dwemer, the Lorkhanic power most effectively used by Vivec and Dagoth, and then this:

Also known as Jephre. Most important deity of the Bosmeri pantheon. While Auri-El Time Dragon might be the king of the gods, the Bosmer revere Y'ffre as the spirit of 'the now'. According to the Wood Elves, after the creation of the mortal plane everything was in chaos. The first mortals were turning into plants and animals and back again. Then Y'ffre transformed himself into the first of the Ehlnofey, or 'Earth Bones'. After these laws of nature were established, mortals had a semblance of safety in the new world, because they could finally understand it. Y'ffre is sometimes called the Storyteller, for the lessons he taught the first Bosmer. Some Bosmer still possess the knowledge of the chaos times, which they can use to great effect (the Wild Hunt).

Apparently the Bosmer shamans can use their knowledge of the preformed mundus to break down natural laws and transform things into their opposite. The Thuum works because the Dragons have knowledge of the formation of Mundus, when they speak they are literally using that knowledge to vocalize things into existence, the same way those things were brought into existence to begin with by Aedra. This Bosmer magic is very similar, just the opposite principle.
