Files needed & some clarification.

Submitted by ironman12345 on

zilav,

Your new master and the way that you have described it is cool!:)

But imo this a community effort, and with the old converter [thanks to Anruin & and the Andoran team],we could all use it,but where is your converter.?

So far there is no download link to anything, just a very good idea, that may or may not work,I for one would like to see something more and some clarification.

What converter,if any, are you using,or what tools or programs do the community need to be able to help in your project.?

What is puzzling me the most is that even the Andoran Team used a converter, but if it can all be done without using it,why did they not do it your way.?

Like I said, your idea is great, but I would hate to see this dedicated community lose everything on an idea,so can you assure us on that point.?

incorrect forum

Iniquity, this thread is not in an incorrect forum, because it concerns the main current master, which is a mod release.

if you have time please note that the download link to the current master installer has now been removed as I am no longer hosting it,due to that fact that it is now considered to be obsolete.

As you wish, but in my opinion the two previous forum is more appropriate)

Wow( forward new mastefile)

I'd actually have to agree with Iniquity on this one but I guess it is your call.

I thought Zilav explained it pretty well.  He is using TesIV Edit to load Morroblivion, then he is basically using scripts to copy that information out and place it in TesV edit and saving it to a new skywind.esp.  A completely different kind of conversion than the one the Andoran team used.  You have to remember that TesV edit was not released when Andoran began the conversion so they did not even have this option.

Though I guess I would agree with you Ironman.  I would like to see a partially completed master or something just to be sure this is for real.  But either way, I guess we will find out in a week or less.  Not too much working time lost.

I agree, if he doesn't wanna make it public yet he should at least pm Ironman a link to a half completed master file to look over it.

Ok Shadow, and thanks for explaining, but at this time there are a lot of people that are trying to download the installer to install SkyWind,in fact thousands will be trying to do that as I type, due to the vids, screenshots etc that have gone worldwide,my download site has had 30000+ downloads in just a few months, but now that the installer and Skywind is not being hosted by my skydrive,it is causing me some problems.

We need to make a thread telling the world that Skywind is now on the shelf for a while.?

Just put a notice in the Master page.  "Link to master temporarily removed due to a new version nearing completion.  Try checking back in a few days." Or something to that effect.  Just don't make it sound like we are giving up or anything like that, because we most certainly aren't.

Hmmm, if it's completed and works 100%, it makes me wonder if the same method could be applied to Oblivion.

I actually wondered that out loud somewhere on the meshes thread.  Though I'd definitely want SI to be brought up to Skyrim standards with fixed magic, quests, etc. before base Oblivion.  I think SB suggested that a door to the Shivering Isles could be placed on a lake in Skyrim, and I actually think that is a pretty good idea.  What do you guys think?

Still, there is no way it will ever be a 100% conversion.  Even with a new master we would still have a bit of work yet until Skywind is pretty close to finished and we can start on SI.

@ironman12345

There are no "converter" as you imagine, only a bunch of scripts for TES4Edit/TES5Edit written for every record group. They are almost the same though.

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B4rR0C-Bcx_JY05IRmYyYWczX1E

The conversion process I'm doing is something like this:

1) I check record in TES4Edit and TES5Edit to see what values can be transferred

2) Update script to dump those values to text file, apply script to record group in TES4Edit.

3) Select most suitable records in Skyrim.esm to be a template where those values can be imported. Templates should have most needed subrecords, no ai packages, no scripts, etc.

4) Update script to use those templates

5) Import text file back in TES5Edit

As you can see, in its current form this is not a one-click automated converter, the process is semiautomatic.

Those scripts can be combined later into 1 big script for automated conversion, more values can be transferred between games, interface can be made with options window (scripts can do UI), etc. However, will I do it? Not sure, it'll take a lot of time which I don't have.

Wow, that's quite impressive. The npcs already have their race/unique checked/speed. So even while a lot of the npcs are not done, they'll at least show up in-game and willl make finishing the npcs a lot easier.

zilav, is it possible to change the class of object with cells?

What do you mean exactly?

If you want to change the particular object of all references in all cells to another object, then yes, it is very easy.

Wow, it is cool)) I like to hear it)

This is pretty impressive. Making an automated converter will take more time than converting it individually though? If this takes you 3-5 days to do (as you originally said) and it comes out fine without any setbacks, then this shouldn't matter. I guess we'll see what happens when you're done. Either way, nice work!

I'm converting only one now.

My intention is not to write a converter, but to convert Morroblivion to Skyrim.

Just edited my post because it didn't make sense (sleep deprived college student during finals week). How is the morroblivion master? Since I wasn't around for that project, I don't exactly know what kind of shape that master is in. I'm sure everything has been fine tuned since it has been out for a while now.

Will there be any big differences between this master and our current one, besides being (hopefully) less of a mess?

Shivering Isles? Then Madgods blessings, how may I serve? :-p

Happens to be amazing in that even standalone it happens to be an amazing pack, loved the Dark Seducers. Though I think the Elvin Altameri Dominion Thalmor Armor ripped off of the Mazken armor style a bit, it does happen to be my favorite armor in the game.

Though on a purely selfish note I wouldnt mind the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion to be one of the first non SI Skyblivion quests done once skywind is done.

When you say that Skywind is done, do you mean that all quests for Skywind are done? :O

I will gladly help with SI once we get started on it. Probably going to have to redo oblivion_sk.esm first with this method if all goes well.

Wow, you weren't kidding Zilav, your conversion is much more complete than Morrowind_sk.esm.  Just a few more groups to go and it will have far surpassed our old one.

I was a bit surprised to see alchemical apparatuses however, so I checked Skyrim.esm and found that it has unused alchemical apparatuses just sitting there.  Do you know if these would be usable ingame?

Suade: No, The main quest, mage's guild, fighter's guild, and I think thieve's guild? are the only questlines completed (though not debugged, and need some things fixed that require Skyrim.esm as a master).  It seems like manual conversion from Oblivion to Skyrim is pretty simple though, so recreating quests shouldn't be as hard as in Morroblivion.

Edit: Oh, and the Morag Tong

If I recall making quests in Skyrim is very similar to making the quest in Oblivion.

@Shadow
I had to look in the CK, and wow there really are unused alchemical apparatuses. It's beyond me why Beth didn't use them, and chose to use those dumb ass tables. I'm guessing that they assumed someone would wanna make a mod to add them, and saved the modder time lol.

Yeah, I just found this mod, except it looks like the apparatuses are treated as clothing?  Thats kind of strange.

Neat, so this converter will convert the quests from morroblivion without us having to manually recreate them?

I assume that can't be done for oblivion because its our first time actually converting the oblivion game.

I always thought converting quests from Oblivion/Morroblivion to Skyrim wasn't possible.

Yes, Skyrim uses quite a different quest system and record format.

The quests are already in morrowind_sk and looks fine to me.

No it is not automatic.  The quests and dialogue we have in Morrowind_sk.esm were MANUAL conversions by Machine and DigitalParanoid, and are not completed yet.

Then this is basically converting all other values not relating to quests/npc's/ect? Apologies, I'm not very experienced with this stuff.

Quests, dialogs, spells, factions, idle animations, globals, scripts, music, loading screens, weather.

Those are not converted (maybe something else I don't remember). They either have a very different format or can be easily recreated in CK (like globals and factions).

Ah okay, thanks for clearing that up! Will be looking forward to the release :) Do you still need another 3 days or so? No rush, just want to know what day you think you'll be done as this is one of my busiest weeks of the year.

I'd like to tell you more, but I don't know.

The only groups left are REGN, CELL and WRLD, but they are the biggest ones.

Okay, I'll frequently check back at this thread :)

Hey guys, I just got motivated to try and help out a bit with this project now that it has some better legs to stand on.  I'm using the new partial master and creating a plugin that will fix some of the keywords using Tes V edit.  Pretty minor, but it is a start.

I have two questions though.  What is the difference between a battleaxe and a war axe?  And when I try to fix the bolts by adding dawnguard.esm as a master, removing the non-bolt flag, and setting the projectile model to that of a steel bolt, and then exit out and reenter Tes V edit, it tells me that it is injecting those bolts into dawnguard.esm.  The form id's then change and no longer show those records as being overwritten?

Awesome Shadow! It's a good start! Are you going to make a separate master than zilav?

War axe is the one handed version of the 2 handed battle axe.

No, this is just a plugin that can be merged with the completed master later.  And thanks, I have never used an axe in Skyrim, and the only blunt weapon I have ever used is the mace of molag bal.  1 handed swords are the way to go!

Zilav, just wanted to express my thanks for working on this conversion. You are truly doing us a tremendous favor.

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with Clint.

Hey Clint do you still have those weapons that got taken off of the steam workshop?  I could work on putting them in the correct directories.  Or is someone else already doing that?

Yeah Shadow, I still have them. Do you want me to PM you a link to them? And I don't think anyone is currently putting them in game.

Sure, just pm me them.  It shouldn't take to long to located the correct directories for them.  You don't have to bother extracting them form the .bsa files if you don't want to though,  I can do that myself.

I don't think I'll change the filepath to fit the new format in a .esp though, but we'll see.

Also, are you planning on changing anything in the weapons category before the release of the master zilav?  Because I'd hate to have my .esp be made incompatible.

No.

Also a little update. Moving "prepared" esp with wrld and cells from oblivion to skyrim seems to be working in TES5Edit, but unfortunately there are no ACRE records in skyrim. This means all creatures (not npcs) should be placed manually in CK. I know, it sucks, but not much I can do here.

On the bright side I'm trying to preserve color and fog settings in cells, map markers, lock data, teleport data and enable parent data.

Awesome job Zilav!  That's too bad about the creatures though.  Did Morrowind_sk.esm have creature references placed that you could copy instead of us hand placing them?

Just so that you guys don`t think that I have lost interest,I would like to congratulate zilav for using his/her obivious skills to help us out with the project.

My first post was written in a sceptical manner, but only because the community here have and still are putting in lots of hours and work, but I was wrong, because zilav is doing a great job with this so far.:)

I can`t help at this stage because frankly I am out of my depth with the current way of approaching the project, but when it all reaches a stage where we have a working master method,I will try to contribute some more input.

Can someone please give me a brief info of changed meshes/textures paths between morroblivion and morrowind_sk?

I've converted most records using original paths from morroblivion, however when downloading eloth's landscape textures noticed extra "landscape\" for them.

I'm using Iniquity's packs now so need a comparison of paths there and in morroblivion.

About pathes, idk what is different but is it possible to change all pathes in masterfile into meshes/skywind/ ?

You mean meshes/Morrowind  :)

That is what I'm using for the weapons mod anyway.  Plus it is more future-proof.
