Question for you guys out there.

Working on some wood textures to redo the wood parts on some Seyda neen buildings i am working on. Currently this is is what i have come up with. Its hand sculpted in zbrush and i am a little worried it loks too 'painterly' and stylised. Not so realistic.

I have got to add some lichen and moss and weather it a little, but tell me what you think.

I'll be posting my models in this thread from now on too.

Honestly, I think that looks great. But if you can do better, well damn, I'll just be amazed.

I am not familiar with ZBruch, but have a question.

TES games run on seamless textures of 1024x1024, is that what it produces.

No idea on what ZBrush does and how textures are handled or stored on disk.

Well you can generate seamless textures in zbrush and tile them in other 3d programs. I am sure that it would be no problem to offload them into the construction kits.

I am yet to ask you guys what kind of maps that skyrim handles. I can only assume that it will be a normal, diffuse and specular.

Also, what size maps are suitable for a house lets say? I was thinking 2048, but if i could get away with a 4096 then that would be great.

Sjors you sound clued up, maybe you could help.

Hmmm.. seeing as skyrim uses 1k by default, I think that is is only reasonablr to offer this to those with weaker PCs. Most people will probably go for 2K (the HIGHRES dlc uses this), but if you are making them to higher it wouldn't hurt to offer it at 4k aswell.. downscaling textures is easy. Skyrim can support parralax mapping as well by use of an enb, which does not necessarily hinder performance if the setting are turned off.

Let's go with the high res (so 2k?). A lot of texture work that has been done (ie Eloth's) is pretty high res. I expect that most people have a decent pc if they are going to play the mod when it's released, and we want to make it look as nice as possible :)

Could always run through texture optimizer later. Looks great so far!

I'd say 4k is too high.  I personally would probably only use the 2k, because I only have 896 mb of vRam, plus I don't think Eloth's textures are that high-res.  For the most part they look about HD-DLC resolution, with a few being better resolution.

Err that's what I meant, and 2k is the HD texture mod as well. I just meant not 1k.

Woa thanks for the comments guys. Really appreciate the feedback.

I figured 4k might be too high. In any case i'll do a 2k and as you all have said. You could always down-res it too.

It been a while since i have posted stuff and i am itching to show you guys some stuff! Over the past few days i have been working in creating a small library of textures for myself. Thus far i have made only wood and plaster because i have had to hand sculpt them. I'll attach a pic of what i mean.

I also have re-done the building i was working on. I wasnt happy with the quality i was getting with the wood alphas i was using. It looks much better now. Anyway the building has been re-worked to fit to look like Arilles tradehouse. I am thinking two versions of this house would be ideal: a mossy swampy colour scheme, and a dry, non-mossy colour scheme. Just for variations sake.

I just wanna get this bloody house finished!!

That house looks insane, dam I wish I could build stuff like that.
Did you look at that model I made as reference to what my skills can rebuild?

HOLY CRAP! Mind = blown

just mix those two textures with a wood and plaster template in photoshop and it should be ok. Use either multiply or lighten when mixing.
