Arrested at the start...

Submitted by Moshi on

Hello, I just installed morroblivion - following the instructions here http://morroblivion.com/forums/morroblivion/mods/2173

I started a new game and selected to start from morrowind, but when I got to the part after disembarking the ship where you can pick up the dagger from Hrisskar's note (I think that's what it's called) as well as the lockpick, it failed. I was immediately found in the uncomfortably close proximity of a guard, who began to question me about my business and promptly led me to the local jail. From memory, aren't you supposed to loot everything you can from that area? - besides, of course, the books and such that belong to the people stationed there.

Is this perhaps a problem with my .esm/.esp file load order? Which, by the way, I have no idea how to change...

I was able to pick up the dagger, but you're right, the lockpick is owned and so is a lot of that stuff. And you're right, traditionally a new player would loot the heck out of that place. It's like how you can come out of Oblivion's first dungeon with a set of armor and a weapon (or weapons) of your choice. In fact, picking up that lockpick even triggers the Morrowind tutorial for lock-picking.

In my opinion, the stuff in that second building (aside from the stuff in his office) ought to be unowned. I feel the same way about the barrels outside the houses in various cities... I always used to loot the little nothings from them, unsneaked, in front of the guards.

I think some things were probably mass-set in order to get them up and running. Someone will probably have to go over them with a fine-toothed comb later. (That's just my guess, though, I'm pretty new.)

No, that is different from the original Morrowind on purpose.

One of the few things we try to do differently with Morroblivion, vs. Morrowind, is make the game more realistic by taking advantage of the AI features in Oblivion's engine.

This means that more things are owned, it's easier to get caught stealing, and NPCs don't stand in one place day and night without sleep like freakin' zombies lol ;-)

But in Oblivion, the unattended barrels around the city and the stuff in the first dungeon weren't owned... Good source of potion ingredients and random pieces of clothing. :)

When I first played Morroblivion last month, I got caught stealing in the first room, and was thrown in jail. I glitched like crazy afterwards and fell from an invisible wall in the  fotress and nearly died. Best way ever to start an adventure!

That's awesome!

I simply used a console command to kill the guard and looted everything anyway. Will never stop doing that, even in Skywind.
