| Elder Scrolls III - Morrowind Theme (piano cover).mp3 | 3.39 MB |
As I know there were legal issues pertaining to the use of textures and meshes from Morrowind in Morroblivion, I was wondering if there were any subsequent issues regarding the soundtrack. Granted, Jeremy Soule has composed the soundtracks for the Elder Scrolls games from Morrowind onward so I'm not sure that HE would have any qualms, however I'm not sure the same could be said about the Bethesda Softworks legal team. Basically what I'm asking is: Is it alright for us to continue to use the original soundtrack for Morrowind, or should we look for an alternative?
I could see remixes or different compositions being viable, but perhaps the best route--legally speaking--would be completely original work. Music is critical the the overall experience of any game or movie and the Morrowind soundtrack really adds to the atmosphere. Now, I know what you're thinking. "Wouldn't composing an entirely origianl soundtrack be difficult?" The answer? Not terribly. It would more than likely be far from difficult to procure an entirely original soundtrack, at least for the final release. With co-operation from multiple musicians I think it is possible. Websites like Newgrounds.com and SoundCloud have innumerable talented musicians who I'm sure would be willing to help.
Finally, I think it would be a good idea audio-wise to think about capturing the feel rather than the exact sound. For instance, I've replaced the title theme in my copy of Morrowind with a piano rendition I found on youtube (I downloaded and did some minimal mastering on it, of course). It sounds wonderful in game and out. See Attached
Just something to think about, as I know there are much more pressing concerns to the release of Skywind.

The morrowind sound track was already added to skyrim by the dlc dragonborn, so yeah... It seem like bethesda made that dlc to help us out. there's already telvanni and redoran architectural style in it. The only problem I see with music would be oblivion's music. which most of the songs from skyrim are remixs of. (just with the violin toned down and the tempo changed)
