Skywind Book Fixing

Submitted by Shadow on

Okay guys, my next project will be tackling fixing up the books.  Right now this looks like it will consist of creating and assigning correct inventory art, as well as making them teach the correct skills.

I'm posting now, because I want your opinion on the skills.  In Morrowind there are 27, and in Skyrim there are 18.  So should I assign those skill books with lost skills another skill to teach, or should I just remove the skill teaching entirely from them.

Also, Is there any way of using the Skyrim versions of some of the books instead?  I know we have a script for that, but I don't know where to download it, how to use it, or whether this is something we want to do.  Any thoughts?

Edit:  I think I'm going to go with using other Skyrim skill books, but I'm not sure what I should go with on the lost skills.  Here is what I'm thinking:

[Combat]
Medium Armor - > Heavy Armor
Spear -> Two-Handed
Armorer -> Smithing
Axe -> Two-Handed
Blunt -> One-Handed
Long Blade -> Two-Handed
Athletics -> Pickpocket

[Stealth]
Acrobatics -> Pickpocket
Hand to Hand -> One-Handed
Short Blade -> One-Handed
Mercantile -> Speech

[Magic]
Unarmored -> Light Armor
Mysticism -> Random other Magic school

The extra 9 books could give skills as close as is possible to the original morrowind skills,for example if it was a magic skill then the closest skyrim magicka skill could be used.?

Well, I already kind of planned on doing that.  That's what the bottom portion of my post is. :)

I just want to know people's thoughts on what I should use as a replacement skill.  On the left is the original skill, and the right is a proposed replacement.

In that case your list and the proposed alternative looks fine to me,but others might not agree.

My biggest concern is the large number of one and two handed skill books. But I suppose that isn't a big enough difference to greatly unbalance anything.  At least I hope so.

One & two handed is the skill that imo most players want,because with swords,axes etc it helps when fighting higher ranking foes,so I guess it ain`t unbalanced,just fair.?

And if your weapon needs some smithing or sharpening then the skill with it is balanced anyway,

Emm, I thought we are doing new skills?

The equivalents seem good and I'm a die-hard Morrowind fan! :)

Isn't there a morrowind skill mod for skyrim?

Iniquity:  I don't know what you are talking about.  The skills are hardcoded into the Skyrim engine, so none could be added.  We HAVE to use the ones Skyrim has given us.

Brutal:  There is an attribute mod, but no skill mod. And we have decided that it should remain optional, and not part of core Skywind as it would alter the vanilla game too much.

Envydeveloper:  Cool, I was most unsure about acrobatics and athletics, but since pickpocket didn't have an equivalent it seemed like that would work out pretty well there.

when we talk about sneak/lockpicking/pickpocket this mod should be mandatory in skywind:

Umm you mentioned spears will be included in the two handed skill tree. I also saw on the most recent video a few days ago that tesrenewal has made their own animations and mechanics in the game. So I'm just wondering if the team gave spears a new animation/attackstyle/pattern to the game. It just has me curious. If nothing has been done about it, I wouldn't press the issue, but to hear that spears have been made spears, and not retextured greatswords would be really awesome.

Please look at the dates. This thread is from two years ago, and its creator has been MIA for nine (almost ten) months.
