So if were already breaking the rules by using assets from games like morrowind and Oblivion, when the Elder scrolls online would it be possible to convert the meshes from that to skyrim? [insert evil laugh]
tisk tisk supreme
we are already assuming (and hoping) that players own morrowind/oblivion and skyrim. eso might be able to be checked for, but come on man. there is a difference between lovingly converting old games to a newer format and ripping models from the latest hottest thing outside of the core games.
ESO looks considerably
ESO looks considerably different from the other TES games, and I imagine they would look a bit odd in game. MMOs are designed with low-spec machines as well, so not sure if they would be up to scratch. But certainly there could be some inspiration in there.
And with all the effort of changing meshes and textures from various other sources, it looks like this project is asserting itself as conforming to Bethesda rules, so let stick to being as legit as possible.
I was just wondering if it
I was just wondering if it would be possible. I mean zenimax makes bethesda models anyway and we really can't get in anymore trouble with them(untill the FBI start hunting for us down...but that already a risk).
@happychappy
I'm not too sure about the low spec thing the beta testers(that aren't on zeni's pay roll) said it looks better then the pictures zenimax released. so I think it would be up to par or better then skyrim (remember skyrim on the very highest setting, better then real enb enabled, and 16k textures is not default) I also heard somewhere that the meshes zenimax used are edited from previous games.
And by the off chance that someone DOES convert ESO to skyrim I think they would just be used as edit bases not actually whole shameless rips

I watched the trailer video
I watched the trailer video for ESO and it does look pretty sweet. But it has that cartoon look to it still. They kind of add slight curves to elements that would otherwise be straight. It still looks good, but wouldn't quite fit in. More importantly its Zenimax stuff and lets just stay away from it. Our Morrowind is going to look heaps better than the ESO Morrowind!
Yep I don't think eso's stuff
Yep I don't think eso's stuff would look good in this project either but I was just thinking "if we're at risk of being banned because of using zenimax's stuff now then what's the difference for using eso's stuff.
I don't think it's a good idea to use it but I also don't think that the FBI and gonna gun us down because we did
@sb I take it you mean Merp right? Anyway Merp got banned because the hobbit was coming out and Warner Bros. didn't want to lose sails Of anything like, another lotr game . If you had the choose of a movie license game or get skyrim and then get a full free game after that which would you choose... well the hobbit didn't get a game but I doubt there won't be another lotr game... eventually. And well most peolpe will buy skyrim with free massive mod then a lotr game.
@ happychappy I see what you mean... BUT if it was to somehow get converted by some nameless modder not in a major project (not any of us of course) and if it was edited to fits the elder scrolls less cartoon feel then I think it would look good, not to use here but idk. I mean some overly ambitious modder is gonna do and try to convert it and make all of tamriel within 24,000 year( the calculation of how long it would take 1 person to make all of tamriel based on skyrim).
There will definitely be a
There will definitely be a person or group of people who will try and port it into the Skyrim engine.
Maybe the name for that project will be "Elder Scrolls Online - Offline" - lol.
if it's possible, this would
if it's possible, this would be a good idea. I mean what's the point of not using the "hottest" stuff when it looks so much better?
Legality issues, thats the
Legality issues, thats the point.
@zilav: don't we already have
@zilav: don't we already have those issues with converting zeni's stuff From other games, We're already using their stuff. I don't see why using their best stuff as an major issue. It would be like converting skyrim to oblivion. No matter what we do we're never gonna be legal. Why not convert it(other then the fact that it would look bad on this project... yeah that's a thing too).
Because we wanna be as legal
Because we wanna be as legal as possible, and not piss them off. It's the same reason why nearly all the Morrowind textures were replaced(that and they look like shit in 2012), and why we wouldn't use Fallout assesets lol. As for ESO, if some stuff doesn't look too cartoonly or like a huge WoW clone, I wouldn't mind drawing inspiration off of it, but I wouldn't like the idea of just plain ripping the mesh/texture out.
hopefully when that person
hopefully when that person determined to create the elder scrolls online-offline converts the models they will also edit them.
also I don't think it matter how hard you try if you fail. If we try so hard to make skywind legal to the zenimax/bethesda legal team we're still the enemy to them. It doesn't matter I mean I don't think it would look good here but It might look good in other mod. I mean really the assets from eso are the last modder resource you'll ever need.
Remember tamriel rebuild's hammerfell mod now wouldn't it look alot better if the assets it had were edited from eso's
Just editing models a bit
Just editing models a bit doesn't make them legal. They have to be made from scratch.
Just drop it please
I am not a mod, however No offense but this discussion is dangerous, we are all trying our best to preserve the games we love while moving their quests and vo to skyrim, please understand that the majority of us here are more comfortable with getting skyrim as legal as possible while retaining our morrowind/oblivion to skyrim goals. Its like knowing you want to recreate your favorite boxcar from old parts that you and your dad played with in kindergarten even though he would be upset that your playing with toys at your age, while remembering to not totally piss your dad off by rebuilding it with parts from his brand new Austin Martin and favorite Hummer.
Cant wait for the next skywind release! :)
Yeah, we've had a bit of
Yeah, we've had a bit of setback on that release, could be a bit longer. It's a mesh problem.
Kk!
Thanks for the update shadow! hoping it gets fixed without too much stress.
It'll be stressful. We
It'll be stressful. We either need an update to the nifconverter (which it actually is entirely possible that we could get soon), or some painful hand work. See, the change to a new file structure broke the the normals and a shader flag, again.
But rest assured it is being worked on.
I really don't see how this
I really don't see how this thread is dangerous as we were not talking about using the stuff in skywind or any other project past, present or future by us. it doesn't really matter as someone will always do it anyway I'm sure that by the time the next tes game comes out someone will have already put the assets in skyrim.
Like someone said deep in the achives of the web site at some point(I heard it somewhere here along time ago). "even if bethesda doesn't want to ban us, their legal team does" I mean morroblivion being banned didn't stop it. If or when skywind gets banned I doubt it will stop either, and as long as it exists it can be banned, no matter how much we try to make as close to being legal as we can. I can see why you say if bethesda like us and thinks were not a problem they won't ban us but does their legal team care. better yet if you were on their legal team would you care. your trying the make sure you don't get sued at all costs and whether you use eso assets in skyrim or morrowind assets in Oblivion you still have the same risk of being sued or shut down. The point is that although converting eso assets puts us in more danger with bethesda, it doesn't change what there legal teams think of us, "as a threat to there company"
Morroblivion and Skywind are illegal?!
Oh my god!
Morroblivion and Skywind are illegal?! You are breaking the rules? What? Is this site safe? What the hell am I doing on here if all of this is illegal? I just want to play Oblivion and Morrowind in the Skyrim engine! That's all. I didn't know it would be illegal or anything like that.

Yup, you're going to jail now.
Harry,relax!It is not
Harry,relax!
It is not illegal to play morroblivion, skywind or any other mod,the only risk [if any] is to the guys actually doing the convertion of assets, but if we don`t do it,you and others will never get to play them in the skyrim engine.
You are free to visit any site that you want, and help or not,you have nothing to fear.
Note: Mehh was joking!
If there was any threat of
If there was any threat of the FBI gunning us down or us going to jail it would have happened by now...
Yeah, but what happened to
I expect ESO to be free for download, just like WOW is these days.
Free assets are making it all worth it, and there is only one missing person so far.
He has never been seen again.
I think eso will be free to
I think eso will be free to download after the first year. The last mmo I played was dcuo and that went free after they made back the money of development.
I did not refer to "Free to
I did not refer to "Free to Play", I meant the full content of ESO will probably be 5GB which can be downloaded without any cost. You still need to pay for playtime like always.
Oh, my bad. I'm not sure
Oh, my bad. I'm not sure though. You can preorder it now

A very bad idea. Don't forget that ESO is not from Bethesda.
