Corrupted game saves

Submitted by kheldarath on

Hey there guys. First off i have to say that morroblivion is one of the best game combination mods i've seen. The ability to choose wether to become the nerevarine again, the hero of kvatch or to hop between the two is awesome. Its made two games that were previously pretty damn massive, into one hypergame that ticks all the boxes.

However i have had the corrupt save issues a lot. I know that its not possible to fix the corrupted saves, and as of now i've started not overwriting the same saves all the time. However, i was really wondering if anyone might be able to offer a shortcut. Whilst it is true that morrowind is an awesome game, i do find myself a little vexxed that i have to keep doing the same starting quests over and over each time i get a corrupted save.

Now i'vestarted again and as i mentioned i will not be overwriting the saves and will be taking into account all the other tips that have been posted here before. But i would like to enquire at least wether anyone knows the console commands that would allow me to catch up to my previous position in terms of quests.

In the last game that got corrupted i was currently a house cousin of redoran and the first stage of my stronghold was completed just 2 hours before the most recent corruption. I am also a warlock in the mages guild having just completed chirmavidium and all of Ranis' quests up to and including traitor in the guild. IN redoran i had finished the redguards quests, and the quests that were available to me from the redoran noble in ald'rhun. including the clearmy sons name quest. I was on the recover the four redoran shields questline.

If anyone is able to message me concerning the correct console commands to level my character up to 11, level my redoran to house cousin and complete the quest lines to the points i mentioned, i would be eternally grateful. Private messages are preferred as it wont hopefully encourage others to skip through.

I only ask this because i think that many of us have been at that point in a game where the prospect of having to redo the same section for the 7th time due to inefficient programming corrupting saves is unappealing and downright discouraging. I'd love to just get on with the epic storylines and hopefully forget about the corrupted saves.

So any help will be appreciated!

(I'm sorry for the length of the post by the way and i hope you guys wont feel too harshly against me for this!)

regards

Kheldarath

(my load order is Oblivion.esm followed directly by morrowind_ob.esm so the index should be 01 i guess)

okay i think the tone of my message here was miscontrued. Sorry for that. I was not in any way criticising the mod itself. The mod itself is pretty awesome as i mentioned. Corrupted game saves in oblivion are a known factor with oblivion itself and have less to do with the actual content of any mods. The inefficient programming i was referring to is that of oblivion itself. This mod is fine.

I wasnt trying to insult anyone and i appologise if you saw this as an attack on the mod developers it most definately is not. I am just posing a problem that i personally am having and requesting any help that people might be able to offer.

Once again the intent of this message is not criticising the mod please don't take it as such. The corrupt saves issue is a well known one with oblivion itself not THIS mod. There are many sites across the internet that will atest to such so i know it is not this mod that is causing it.

sorry for coming across that way back there.

kheldarath,Thanks for explaining, text can sometimes be misleading, unlike the use of voice so np,but about corrupted saves.

Sometimes they are corrupted by the Oblivion code that does the saving, auto saving is not good but handy, but even normal saves sometimes refuse to reload due to missing objects etc,for example if you changed armour then saved a save, then sold the armour in that save, when you try to reload that save it might get in a mess trying to  replace the sold armour back onto the PC,anything can be the cause, but using the console and maybe deleting objects etc in that save would proberly cause it to complain.

But whatever the reason, oblivion, in fact all of the Beth games I have all have the same problem.

I install incremental saver mod ,disabled "building to out and in" autosave and no corrupted savegames since. With incremental saver ,quicksave makes two saves and give more time to save properly. from 500ms to 5 seconds.

I hope this helps. It's very annoying to go back 10h gametime because of corrupted savegames.

Incremental saver can be found in nexus.

Savegame corrupt occurs again and now i lost too much gametime. Even Incremental saver saves not work.

Better wait Skywind ,too much problems with morroblivion.

How does one corrupt a save game in the first place? I have never had such issue playing Oblivion. There is according to my thinking nothing wrong with the game itself, it’s only the player that can mess something up. Just stop messing up the game and stop complaining about things you probably did yourself.

If it’s impossible to load a save game then you really asked for it.

Can you upload one of the corrupted saves?

Besides Uploading a Save File, A .TXT file with Load Order,Where you have Oblivion installed and what you Control your Load Order with

Thanks

Here is my current load order and latest savegame. I use nexus mod manager or Wrye Bash to manage.

Instal folder: I:\Games5\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\Oblivion\

I played heavily modded Oblivion over 300hours and no corrupted saves , but maybe i messed all up like Sjors Boomschors said.

I've loaded this save with no issues, so the problem gotta be on your end.

Tried loading with just Morrowind_ob.esm active?

You are running files that are not needed Open Cities is 1

Re_aranged load order to see if this would help

Have you Changed any thing to do with Oblivion_Morrowind from 3\10\2012___29\12\2012

Did have trouble with TesModManager controlling load order had to go Back to OBMM

Since Tesmodmanager started Supporting Sky/Fall it has started creating error for Oblivion to work Propperly

Morrowind_ob - UCWUS.esp cannot be enabled or saves crash.

I disabled all files ,exept Morrowind_ob.esm and tried enabling plugins one by one.

Also disabled not needed files , Vvanderfell imports stuff and citadel door fix.

Only Morrowind_ob -UCWUS.esp makes saves crash?  This is needed plugin i think. It's v0.56. Maybe older version work , i must try.

Unless this has Been fixed you will have invisible ClannFear * 17 NewClannFear.esp [CRC: AFE60BB3]
 Clannfear uses Boss meshes\textures

This .esp is  not make invisible clannfear and is MUST.  morroblivion original green color clannfear is not attacking att all ,but this "boss texture clannfear" attack fine and is not invisible by sure. Maybe this .esp works only for me?

Thans for helpping again.

Well, this is weird. I made this mod and never had any issues on loading savegames with it (and I'm also able to load your save with it active)

Do you have the latest version?

I made new save without UCWUS.esp and then enabled it. Save works fine.

But earlier save that i sended here not work with UCWUS.esp enabled. Tried v0.56  complete pack version and latest version beta 5.

Do a clean save and use only the latest version.

Please report if you'll have any issues with it in the future.

(can't guarantee I'll fix it though. Its nearly impossible to fix something that you can't reproduce)

One potential "corruption" of the save game I've run into in my 1st run through morroblivion is a version of the constant effect bug from morrowind.

Since morro1 didn't specify what the corruption was this could be part of it.

It occurred when a trap lowered my attributes and I saved several times before I realized it had happened. I was playing a mage and carrying very little so the strength damage wasn't notable at first.

On realizing my strength was low, I went to a shrine and attempted restoration. No Good. Tried a potion, no good. Finally restarted since even console commands couldn't remove the negative strength modifier. (best I could do was make my strength 15 pts too high to compensate)

Since a ce drain strength effect wasn't used I assume the trap mods character strength directly and sets a variable another script can use in the restoration process. If the savegame didn't save that variable (as I suspect) that would explain the problem.

temporary solution: don't save while your attributes are lowered.

I wasn't going to report this until either a) I could reproduce it, or b) I found the cause and fixed it, but if my suspicions are correct then mentioning this could be helpful to someone.

Just remembered where the trap I'm talking about was. I'll check it out ...

I played 2 hours today and no problems. Even game closed without errors.

I have old vanilla Oblivion install in other HD and it never closed without error.

Morroblivion is great experience to play and i allmost lose my hope ,but it works again :)  And now i know what to do next time ,if this problem rising it's ugly head  again.

It's very difficult make script (or something) ,that works every possible situations in game like morroblivion ,i think.

I didn't track down every detail of the system but looking at the trap scripts, it's obvious that there are various scripts interacting and (probably global) variables providing info that later scripts can use.

Even though the oblivion engine saves some info we'd rather it not at times, it's probably not saving a complete enough profile to fully restore all the variables used to represent trap effects, curses, and to work around the cast on use problem (cast on use doesn't really exist in the oblivion engine) in all situations.

When you manually save the game (which I'd recommend doing once in  a while in addition to quick saves ) make sure you don't have anything with "cast on use" equipped and that your attributes aren't lowered without a spell effect being on you to account for it and you'll avoid at least one sort of problem.

You're right about one thing, with the complexity of Morrowind and the fact that there are several scripts making things happen that the Oblivion engine was not designed to do, it's very difficult to anticipate all possible situations.
