How can i help?

Submitted by David Aron on

Hi

I would like to help you guys with the project, but i don't know from where to start and i don't want to make things that are already being made by other people around here.

I have some experience with texturing and i can edit meshes (but not make new ones from scratch).

My nexus profile:

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/users/3322711

You can see most of my work in the images i uploaded.

So how can i help you guys? ._.

Hey thanks so much for volunteering to help out :) I checked out your nexus mods and looks like you could be a great help with getting creatures into Skywind. Is this something that you would be interested in? Otherwise there will be plenty of model and texturing work to do with statics, but we are waiting for a number of things to be released before we do too much work there.

I'm not sure what the plan is so far with porting creatures. It will be a case of trying to figure out where everything is at and what people are planning, so I'll start asking around.

I'll see if we can get you added to the chat and if you can be patient for a couple of days, hopefully we can get you working on the right things. Welcome!

Hi David and welcome!.

If you want to help with the creatures,at this time most creatures are Skeevers [big rats] and for example between Balmora and Cordera [splelled wrong i think],there should be some Alits, but they are Skeevers, what we want is a creature that could replace the Alit by a nearer likeness etc.

Playing morrobivion or the original morrowind might be needed to check what creatures are where, but they will all need to be in Skywind or there nearest equivalents.

Thanks

I would love to help porting the creatures, but i still don't know how to make new skeletons or animations.

I found a tutorial by Hashmi1 showing how port creatures from morrowind to oblivion, i was able to learn the process to do it, and the creature worked out fine... in oblivion, not on skyrim of course. if he or someone else release a tutorial showing how to port morrowind or oblivion skeletons and animations to Skyrim then i would surely be able to learn from it and help.

However, i could port some of the creatures but with different animations.

Example: I could port an Ash zombie and make it use the Draugr or human animations. Would have a lot more animations than the original one from morrowind. but wouldn't they be too different?

Anyways, I'm gonna do that with the creatures i can and make them fit skyrim visual.

Then you guys decide if you want to use then or not.

I could also help porting weapons if it's not being done by someone else.

The porting of weapons has already been started, if not completed. If you have download the latest set of meshes you will find them in the "weapons" folder. There is probably always room for improvement but you'd have to ask those involved with those conversions what would be good to work on. I'm not actually too sure who did them. Once I find out I'll post here.

On the creatures, I've got a list of what is used for the Morroblivion project. This is the download of those creatures for the Oblivion engine: http://www.mediafire.com/file/qks7xd9i3fodoln/Hashmi%20Vvardenfell%20Creatures.rar

If you have already installed Morroblivion, you will probably already have them. This txt file I'm linking to has the list of which creatures are mapped to which nifs: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1vwmz6hbHGPUl9xcGQ0T2pTYkE/edit

If they are under the root node of "Creatures", then they are default Oblvion or SI creatures. If they are under "Morroblivion\Creatures" i guess they have been custom built.

I see. That is a useful list Happychappy, thanks.

I had begun recreating the Frost Atronach from Morrowind, had the body mesh almost complete

But then i found out that you guys used the default Oblivion Frost Atronach for Morroblivion, so i guess you guys will use the default one from Skyrim for Skywind.

Anyways, I attached an image of the body i was making for the frost atronach.

It's not finished, and i don't think i'll work more on it, unless you guys want me to

Carry on by all means :) The only reason default things get used is because we don't have enough time (people) to work on everything. The fact is that most people want the nostalgia of the original Morrowind game. I'm personally sick to death of anything Skyrim related, simply because I have played it so much. The Frost Atronachs look completely different between the two games as you can see, so good job.

All the default creatures/objects are just placeholders until all the morrowind assets will be recreated. Playing Skywind using Skyrim's creatures, armors, clothes, potions, etc. won't feel like Morrowind at all.

i made some progress on the Frost Atronach, still have to change his clothes textures.

There are some bugs on the gloves, but that i'll fix as soon as i have time to.

Anyways what do you guys think of it? ._.

When i'm done with this i'll see if i can port the alits from morrowind.

If you look at the list of Morroblivion creatures, you will actually see that a conversion has been done. If you can base it more on Morroblvion one, then we will get closer to the original morrowind look. I think its looking a little too human at the moment.

May I suggest that we just use Skyrim creatures whenever things make sense?  At least for the next while.  We have other creatures that we are in far greater need of.  Besides, some creatures we might even want to use the Skyrim versions.  Things like skeletons, slaughterfish, mudcrabs, flame atronochs, etc.  These versions would be of a far better quality than any fan made ones.

Hmm I'm not sure I'd agree with that Shadow. Its like saying there was no point in new armor mods, because Bethesda vanilla versions would be better than what could ever be done by fans.

We are in need of other creatures, but you can't ask people to work on them if its simply not something they want to do or have any idea of how to approach such a challenge.

Of course we will use stuff when appropriate. Its more of a case of if somebody wants to alter something so its a bit different, more like the original Morrowind creatures, armor, weapons, whatever, we should encourage it.

People can vote on whether they want something in the final release or not, so there is the potential to waste peoples time. But as long as they have fun with it, they can always release it as an alternative plugin.

The more skyrim stuff you bring into morrowind, the less appealing it'll be to play for others and their expectations.

I was already disappointed after Eloth wanted to replace potions with skyrim's ones claiming they are better. Someone mentioned using skyrim's clothes, and now you want to replace creatures. I'd rather just play skyrim.

Dear forum

i have finally found a way to make myself useful. you may know of a youtuber called gophervids (he makes the skyrim mod sanctuary vids on the nexus: http://www.youtube.com/user/GophersVids) has agreed to help make the skywind mod by spreading the word to the nexus' most famous and talented modders and i see this as huge leap forward here is the messagee conversation

me:

dear gopher,

as you know you made a video recently about the mod skywind, i am a member of the skywind team and we are flattered you know about our project.

we at the morroblivion site were wondering as your name has weight across the skyrim nexus and youtube if you could try to convince some talented modders to give us a hand on the mod. at the moment we need a mixture of: navmeshers, texture creators, animators and people who can create models of monsters and animals. any of your time given towards our project would be valued and we are looking forward to the droves of modders you will hopefully be sending our way :)

yours sincerely the skywind team.

gopher:

You want me to direct them to anywhere specific or just : http://morroblivion.com/

me:

that would be lovely thank you so much, could you tell them to talk to either eloth or shadow as they are the main members.

yours sincerely the skywind team

I will inform you guys if anything else crops up.

Nice atronach :D

I'm glad we don't have to use the hulking Skyrim models...

A nice atronach indeed, keep up the good work!

I prefer David's version over the Morroblivion one, it has more potential to be shaped the way we want it to be. The old model is nice, but the mesh is blocky. When the individual polygons are clearly visible, it is not acceptable for 2013 in my opinion.
