There are 2 robes, 6-8 shirts, and all the Skirts from Morrowind that cause invisible body parts in Morroblivion.
I can fix these... but I need the base body meshes from Morrowind.
Would somebody please trick their converter into converting these to Oblivion NIF Format for me?
1. Get a BSA Unpacker that will work with Morrowind BSA Files (Modern Oblivion versions won't).
2. Unpack the base bodies from Morrowind, I need them all hand, foot, upper & lower bodies, Male & Female.
3. Rename these to something that will be converted, like shoes, shirts, & pants.
4. Run the converter. This should trick it into converting thest to a format I can use.
5. Grab the converted meshes and change their names back to their original
6. Post the results to www.RapidShare.com so I can grab them.
I do NOT want to replace these with vanilla Oblivion "equivalents." Oblivion equivalents are not Equivalent!
Imperial
Thank you.
It doesn't really matter I guess, as they are all obviously able to wear common clothing and armor, but given a choice I would say Imperial.
I renamed all of the
I renamed all of the Imperial and Argonian body parts to clothing files and overwrote the clothing, but the converter ignored every file I changed.
The Converter Does Not Overwrite Anything
The converter will not overwrite any files.
Did you make sure you deleted the final destination files from your Oblivion\Data Folder, both Meshes and Textures, before you ran?
I will need both, meshes and textures.
How's your French?
If we can't get this to work, I still don't want to give up yet.
There is a French Forum where Gladrielle and/or somebody that might be able to help with this reside. I don't know how active they are or if Gladrielle is still around.
But, it would certainly be worth a try to write something up, translate it to French, and post it on the French Forum.
Are you sure you want to
It might be possible to convert the body parts using 3ds max.
However are you sure you want to convert morrowind body parts?
I mean one of the reasons people want morroblivion is for the graphical update ... which includes the better body that comes with oblivion.
Would'nt it be better if you replaced the clothing with cyrodil clothes as the object replacer does?
Or if you don't like that maybe retexture cyrodil meshes to make them look more like morrowind clothes?
Morrowind's *ugly* body is the last thing I'll want to see in morroblivion :p
[External image]
^ trust me it will look worse in the oblivion engine.
Anyways Gladriel is no longer active and no one else has the source code of the converter or anything.
Just the Arms
The above screenshot is not what I would be fixing :)
I am just referring to repairing 6-8 shirts where the sleeves are missing. But, a person's arms are typically attached to the rest of their body, so I need the body.
Most of the body will be covered by the shirt; all that will be showing is parts of the arms, so the ugly Morrowind body won't matter.
I personally find it visually jarring to have a few Oblivion shirts mixed up amongst a bunch of Morrowind shirts. I find the Morrowind clothing generally more diverse attractive than vanilla Oblivion clothing.
The Object Replacer sounded like a good idea, but I found the resulting mish-mash to be very unsatisfying and redid my whole conversion.
Redirecting the bad clothing at vanilla Oblivion meshes was my original plan, then I saw the nature of the problem, and realized that I can repair the original meshes (provided I can get the arms and legs to fit).
However, if I can't get the body parts to use for arms & legs, then the discussion is moot and I go back to the original plan and rediret bad clothing at vanilla Oblivion meshes.

David BudreckI found a problem with that method. The converter will not auto-convert any meshes that are present in the morrowind directory. It only converts meshes required by an esm or esp. So you would need to make a morrowind mod that uses those meshes and then run the converter with that mod included.1. Infact they are divided up into left\ upper arm, right lower arm, left wrist, right hand ... and so on: A separate mesh for each. Thats why the whole body looks like its been welded :p So for your plan you only need the specific parts not the whole body. I fear however that there will be deeper problems ... morrowind's arm won't fit with the oblivion hand nor will morrowind's leg won't fit with the oblivion feet. There will be a fitting problem with everything from the texture to the shape to the size. Sleeveless shirts and short pants\skirts will still be unsolved ...

But you can modify it to replace them as well. Anyways the best way would be to use the CS to replace the meshes while retaining the morrowind ids. That would avoid naked npcs with cnme.
I can repair these meshes.
If I could get a body, then I could repair the meshes. It does not matter if their are separate body parts for each area you said, I could add them to the mesh.
I would start with a shirt, then add the missing areas that become invisilbe when eqquipped by an Oblivion character. If that meant one piece, or three, or five, that's OK; I can add them.
In your example indicated in the screenshot, I could add the chest, add the upper arms, and lower arms. I could all all ten fingers if I needed to. It doesn't really matter how many; the concept is basically the same.
However, the whole discussion is moot if I can't get a body.
I know that Oblivion pants won't fit with Morrowind Shoes. But, that is just like an outfit designed for BAB that is worn on an HGEC Body. They are actually fine if worn together.
Morrowind Shirt + Morrowind Pants & Shoes is fine. That is part of the reason I want to fix rather than replace the few bad meshes.
Oblivion skirts are not going to fit properly with Morrowind shirts; there will be a gap in the waist.
So, if you could trick the converter for me, and get me ALL necessary body parts, I can add them to the bad meshes and we could have complete Morrowind outfits.
Otherwise we're back to a mish-mash, or, worse, replacing all the clothing. I don't want to do that.
I have no intention at this point of systematically replacing ALL Morrowind clothing with Oblivion clothing. But, that may be what needs to be done in the end. I would only do that as a last resort.

NPC 2 is wearing a sleeveless morrowind shirt as well as something on his\her hands ... lets say some morrowind gloves. Now if you add the morrowind hands to the shirt as a 'mesh' and add that as a 'replacer' in the CS then NPC 2 will lose his gloves. (this is kind of like the arena armor ... you can not wear gloves on it since the gloves are part of the armor mesh). If you add it as a mesh but not as a replacer in the CS then NPC 2 will have his gloves but there will be severe clipping issues ... his hands will be leaking through his gloves. ------------------------ Now lets take another scenario. There is an NPC who is wearing a sleeveless shirt and the re-done bonemold gauntlets that are part of morroblivion. {These gauntlets are made with the aspect ratio of an oblivion hand in mind.} Now if you have morrowind arms ending in the bonemold gauntlets it would look plainly out of place and ugly. ----------------
Not giving up yet
I have started sending requests to known modlers asking for help.
The author of Vvardenfell Imports retired from modding a couple of months ago.
I have also sent requests to ColourWheel and Growlf.
Hashmi, I noticed that you had uploaded HelBourne's Chitin armor, would you send a request to him?
Maybe
Hasmi, what you are saying in your scenarios may very well be true.
But, I stil want to try. I would rather try and fail than come up with a bunch of reasons why I shouldn't try in the first place...
However, the prospects are looking pretty bleak now. Grolf has flat out refused to help.
So, on to how I deal with this.
There are 6 Shirts, 3 Robes, and ALL female Skirts (except, I believe, for the Mournhold Skirt) that cause invisible body parts when worn. The worst culprit is the Goldolier Shirt that is sleeveless all the way to the shoulders, and therefore causes totally invisible arms.
I see three possible options:
1. Redirect the objects at something totally different, like an armor mesh
2. Redirect the objects at a different object of the same type, thereby cloning existing clothing
3. Redirect the objects at vanilla Oblivion "equivalents"
#3 is my last and least favorite option. On the surface this may seem like the most desirable of the three to avoid duplication, but will probably cause different problems on it's own, like gaps in the waist, etc.
-AND- Oblivion Lower Body Clothing is NOT compatible with Morrowind shoes.
I can think of a couple meshes that might not be bad as substitutes for Shirts, like Imperial Studded Leather, but will probably end up with:
Option #3 for the Nordic Robe since it is similar to the Oblivion Monk Robe,
-- Option #2 for the other 2 Robes
Option #1 for a couple of the Shirts, Option #2 for the rest
Option #1.5 for all the Skirts (except Mournhold)
If I was to use Option #3 on the Skirts and ridirect all the Morrowind Skirts at Oblivion Skirts, Morrowind women will still have cronic problems with partially invisible ankles. I would then also need to replace the shoes... which would conflict with Morrowind Pants.
The best thing would probably be to redirect Skirts at Pants and rename them so "Pants" aren't called "Skirts."
However, this starts to get farther and farther from Original Morrowind, which was absolutely NOT my intention...
If anybody has any other ideas, now is the time for them...
I hope for god sake all the
I hope for god sake all the morrowind clothes will be replaced with oblivion clothes! Morrowind
clothes looks awful compared to it.
And there are tons of clothing mods on tesnexus we can use if the original oblivion clothes
isnt good enough
ps. you can easily make sleeveless shirts by taking the arms from the character mesh
and pasting them on the shirts.
Not an Upgrade
Eloth,
Thank you! I had been fixating on the Skirts because Oblivion hips absolutely do not fit in Morrowind Skirts; it is impossible. However, you are absolutely right about the Shirts. I will try to clean them up. We'll see if I can get around the things Hashmi pointed out...
---
As for texture replacers, replacements, etc., that falls into the realm of "Mods." A player can choose to install a mod or to not install, or pick which mod they want according to their own personal taste.
The purpose of my cleanup is to FIX Morrowind_ob.esm, NOT to Upgrade it.
John, and David Wolf, and pretty much every other mod out there currently replace Morrowind clothing with Oblivion clothing, and that is what "mods" are for.
Once I get the AI, Faction Relations, Scripting, etc., put back into Morrowind_ob.esm where it should be, mods will be free to change clothing again without wrecking somebody else's mod...
Personally, however, I disagree with you; I much prefer the diversity of Morrowind clothing to Oblivon. To me this is part of the charm and ambiance of Morrowind.
But, that is totally beside the point.
Oh Well
I think Hasmi is right, and I am just banging my head against the wall trying to fix these meshes.
Oh well.
I guess it's on to Plan B, and that is trying to figure out how I'm going to deal with it in the least intrusive way.
You can try replacing the
You can try replacing the meshes while retaining the original morroblivion IDs. That way you won't need to change NPCs at all and it would be make it compatible with CNME etc.
This is the Plan
Yes, Hashmi, whatever happens, the original ID's will be preserved.
That is what I have done with ALL the armor except for the three types where Vvardenfell Imports combined them into a single mesh, so I couldn't do it that way. Dark Brotherhood, Vvardenfell Iron Armor, and the Smuggler's Wolf Set (also Snow Wolf Set, but is not used anwhere so have not made that one yet). Even still, I kept the original objects in the file, just replaced them in Inventory, Containers, and Levelled Lists wherever they appeared.
The file paths in the Original Object are redirected at the new mesh, Definitely NOT replace the object with a new one.
That is why I keep use the term "Redirect" rather than "Replace."

Do you want a specific race?
