Morroblivion Performance

Submitted by ShoggothJr on

I've noticed that as soon as I see objects with a shining effect (e.g. bottles, armor...) my framerate is halved. Is there any way to remove that effect? I've just started and I'm worried that if I ever face an enemy with shining armor the frames could kill me.

I'm not sure exactly what turns on and off the effect though.  You may just need to fiddle with your in-game graphics settings until you get it.  Look for anything that says "specular" or "reflections" probably...

If you are using OBGE, you could try disabling that too.

Found it. It was just about setting bDoSpecularPass in the .ini to 0, although I still get some lag, but I guess that's just because the way they are scripted.

Now that you mention it, I do have a problem with my in-game settings. Every time I try to change something like the texture size or rendering distance my game turns into a blue/green screen (depending on the location), and I can still see the HUD and listen to whatever I do. Once I do this I'm screwed since nothing seems to fix the problem, not even deleting the .ini or using system restore. At this point i must reinstall, so I've learned to live without the options menu.

This has only happened to me twice, and as you may guess, I don't have the balls to do it again an see what happens or find out what settings are exactly the ones that cause this. So far I only now that it's the render distance and texture size.

You get Colour Change because the Default Textures through the whole game are set to High anything else you will have multi Colours every where..

Change game Resloution with your Oblivion Launcher.exe if do not have shortcut Create 1 to OblivionLauncher.exe in your Oblivion Directory..

Turn Off HDR,Bloom these do help

Under your Option you can turn off Spec_ Display and Reflections  and Shadows should help

Bottles will still Shine,Armor will still Shine They will not jump out at you any more..

Thank you yet there is one last thing that's been bugging me for a long time.

When I play with limited view distance, the fog around me envelops all objects but the ground, including houses, trees, rocks, grass, etc. That really kills the atmosphere, since an otherwise mysterious ambient turns into just normal hills with white dots and stains everywhere.
That shouldn't be a problem, I could turn on the distant land to kill the fog if I wanted to since my pc can take it, but the thing is that when I do, the hills that were outside my viewing distance appear full of random colors everywhere, which is even worse than the half-foggy hills. Funny thing is that as I get closer to the colored grounds, the colors disappear and it turns back to normal. The same happens in reverse when I move away from it.

I guessed it should be a shaders issue but replacing them with the originals did nothing and even with mods off it keeps happening.
