MOTF - Reintroduction & Clarifications

Submitted by DavidWolf on

Morroblivion Total Fix is an idea. That took form as a project more than one year ago after I started playing Morroblivion. Since then, the project has changed a lot, now thanks to the help of many modders it has a clearer paronama, a bright opportunity lies there waiting to be taken. This is not a group. Groups in general have a linear and vertical way of doing things, they have leaders, elders, and new members waiting to fill free spaces. Vertical groups are normally of short life, having a cycle of death and new beggining in some other forms. A negative aspect is the leadership, in wich everyone is looking towards the leader for orders and moral perpective. A leader is usually under great stress and presure, making him a very unlikeable person, irritated and that's of course natural; even the kindest person can become an animal under heavy stress and frustration. Also a negative aspect is the static vision of high ideal goals, wich makes everyone to feel that they need to work always harder and this ends up in tiresome linear tasks, bad quality results, arguments, plots and breaking the team in subcategories. If anyone wishes to be identified with MOTF, first you must understand that an Horizontal Perspective is more effective. What means to work horizontally? It means that no one's in charge, and everyone is, no one gives orders or receives them, instead everyone helps and guides each other, without thinking about egocentric or frivolous goals and without coercion. It's a fair way to live, and grow and to make this project advance to a better state. This way we can achieve more things in less time, everyone can exploit his/her creativity without moral restrictions and most important, everyone has the right to criticize and to ask questions, without fear. Everyone can help, even the most unexperienced person can, but if I start giving orders, soon after he/she is going to leave, due to the pressure and frustration when that person feels isn't good enough. This is a result of vertical thinking, not horizontal. No one needs to ask for permission, or do anything against their will. So it's about looking at yourself instead of looking at others, looking at what do you really want to do, and doing it. If each person is focus in his/her task, and is working, the project grows even more. But if someone is working in something that has no interest, that person is wasting time and effort, you should take part in something that you really want to do. With this simple, yet effective concept, everyone benefits from it, no one feels presure or stress. Things get achieved, goals are reached and projects are no longer ideas, they become a success. Sincerely, David Wolf.

I do not believe that your ideal can work in this context. Morroblivion has evolved into a bunch of independent modders doing their own thing, typically conflicting with each other, and generally doing the same things several times. How many Morroblivion mods have "fixed" clothing issues? But still, when I attempted to play Morroblivion there were naked NPC's all over the place. Only One Mod Can Affect an object in Modded Oblivion. The Last Mod to Touch the Object Wins. Either an NPC gets his new script, -OR- new face, -OR- new AI, -OR- new clothing. MOST of the Morroblivion mods conflict with each other. Without a goal, clear direction, and a LOT of communication, nobody knows what anybody else is doing, what they should avoid, or what they should concerntrate on. Yoshimo made essentially this same post on my discussion thread. Nobody has responded to him. And, here you are making the same post again. Morrowind_ob.esm needs to be cleaned up and the bugs addressed so that Morroblivion can be a truly playable experience. Currently it is not. You are the most senior member of this community, and carried the torch through some really dark times. Thank you for that, but there does need to be some direction.

I based my ideals on pure essential logic. Most people are going to do, what they're going to do... so why force them to "obbey" someone? Direction is important, I did not say that it isn't. Thinking about it horizonlatally is just taking a different perpective. That's all. Direction is what make us move, but opression is what make us march, and that's what I try to avoid opression. Those are two different things, cooperativism and opression. Goals? You just mention it, your goal is the Morrowind_ob.esm, so go for it! That's what you're working on, and I support you; you contacted me about it I told you that it was a great idea. If I told you to work in something that you can't, you're simply not going to do it. So basically, you're going to do what you're going to do. And that's the point. Not force, but cooperation and guidance when possible. If you do not understand the concept exposed here, well my apologies, I was trying to be as clear as possible in my thinking, maybe I'm wrong about some things, but that doesn't justify if others are trying to load people with different tasks, manipulation is not conceptual, is slavery. Having only people chattering all day is useless, we need modders interested in this project, unfortunelly there's a lot of darkness surrounding Morroblivion and I had problems in the past with other modders because of it. This infamous mod is the best mod ever conceived, and this is my motivation. But not everyone sees it that way, some of them spots "Morroblivion" and walks away from it. Just in case. We can blame no one for this, and this unorganized state of ours is but the result of bad communication, as you just mentioned it. I do agree with that.

PD: I just read the post made by username Yoshimo; it has nothing to do with this. He was vaguely explaining what to he was doing, I did give some guidelines here. I didn't just say: "You're on your own guys!!!" Horizontal Thinking Article : http://zenpundit.blogspot.com/2005/04/understanding-cognition-part-i.html Effectiveness is what I'm looking for, nothing else. If I start to force people it wouldn't work and of course, if I don't do anything to motivate the rest and guide, and instead I give orders and tasks without hesitation then in some point someone is going to get tired of it, why? Simple, because I was loading it with stuff, but if I was to let them do what they like and enjoy, everything is going to get accomplish in no time. I did gave a lot of people a chance, actually I helped some of the current releases and spek with a lot of modders all the time, I got a little tired of it, trying to motivate people isn't easy. Sometimes is hard to get myself motivated... The problem is, there's not enough modders working on this and just like you said, there's a lot of them working on similar things, it's frustrating I know, again if you have better suggestion I will be more than happy to hear it. Hugs, David Wolf ;)

NOTE: This post was just a way to clarify mine and MOTF's stance on this website. Of couse, we have a very nice and friendly forum now. In the past many teams where brought togheter and break apart by their own vertical thinking and structure, and ego driving issues like that. If you read some my early posts you will see that my idea was always to make people do their own thing, then bring everything togheter into one big mod. An overhaul if you want to call it that. Guidance was provided to those who where asking me, but a lot of them take me for a leader, that's the problem, I'm not a leader. If you don't accept that fact and my place here, then you're going to built a false image of me. I saw three teams so far, not a single one of them finish their task, most of them end up breaking up apart and failing in his duty I wish them the best of luck, and their gave me back their agression and treaths. Why? Because they saw me as competition, and they cannot stand my neutrality here. "Holding onto anger is like grasping the hot coal with an intent of throwing it at somebody else, you are the one who gets burned." Siddharta Gautama. This is my stance, I accept yours, can you accept mine? I wish only to see peace and cooperation, among us. Hugs, David Wolf ;)

In my opinion there are two things that are so important to Morroblivion that they are beyond Critical... 1. Armor/Clothing causing Invisible body parts and/or naked NPC's 2. The Morrowind Main Quest Without either of these two things, 99.9% of all visitors to Morroblivion take one quick walk down memory lane, then get back to a game they can actually play... Without these two things, nothing else has mattered. We now have these two things that none of the previous teams you described have had. Armor from Vvardenfell Imports, and the Morrowind Main Quest from the Queen of the Ashlands. Plus, Hashmi has been quietly building a stable of Morrowind creatures, and Eloth has now joined him. We also now have a clean ESM that loads without error in the CS. If we all start using that as a base, the ID's will be the same between builds, and this project can finally start to work from some common ground...

Since all modders are volunteers and Oblivion is a hobby people engage in for fun, it is important that people enjoy their modding and only work on projects they enjoy and are good at. However, I think nobody knows what anybody else is doing and the same work gets done and redone while other needed work remains completely untouched. I haven't been able to find a good list of all the Morroblivion mods available, their download links, and detailed descriptions of what they edit. It is very hard to find out what work has already been done, what work is in progress, and what work is untouched, unclaimed, and calling for a modder.
