[LOCKED] Skyblivion Guard armour

Submitted by LASentry on

Since the guards in Skyrim use the same coloured armour as in Oblivion maybe we could just give the Oblivion guards Skyrim armour. eg. Skingrad can be Solitude. We could give them an imperial helmet or scaled helmet maybe.

Go retexture them. I'm giving you my permission :)

Imo we should just make a retexture of the guard armors... or better yet just convert to original armors from Oblivion. Still I think the guards of the imperial city should the closed helmet instead of the open one.

P.S. Imagine the "stop right there criminal scum" with the first one I think I might actually stop, the second I feel more like" come at me bro".

Sounds great, yeah that was what I was thinking of when I said scaled... I couldn't remember the name of the right one. So I guess you'd just make the texture rougher and darker for the imperial guards? And yeah I can't wait for all the voices to be implemented.

i say just convert the old armors chest piece  and clean those up a bit i saw that a guy calt andynev1 ho was converting armors and the look really good and u only have to convert 1 and than retexture them   ya u can use skyrim guard armor but i find them pretty different so it wouldn't feel that good  also oblivion guards can atleast smile at you

also the guard of every city got there own shield in diferent shape en size those are the only 2 things the guardts need to look good

I've seen a lot of oblivion armors converted in many websites (mainly from oblivion mods), I can't believe that we can't convert the vanilla armors (it's not like skywind, there is no work to do out of conversion)...

just look at andynev's screenshots ; )

@No1:

[External image]Your right skyrim steel helmets look similar enough to use as the main helmets. But I still think for the Imperial city we should use that closed imperial helmet. And we can just retexture shields so the only thing that really need to be converted in the main chest piece

Imo the Skyrim guard armor fits for Skyrim's setting in that it's a rough, inhospitable place, so it makes sense for the guards to have simple armor.  Cyrodiil, however, is all about that royal empire feel.  You just can't accomplish that with rags over a chestplate.  I would just convert Oblivion's guard armor.  There's probably already a mod that does that for Skyrim, anyway, on some site that allows it.

if u wanne learn howe to confert to skyrim from oblivion u can watch this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5xRkO93vqg

i find hime very clear i would do it but i have no talent ore the time for it ore every 1 in skyrim would nowe walk around in power armor from fallout

They made a Guard armor replacement mod a while back:

I think it looks similar enough..

The helmet maybe, but the tattered look of the shirt just won't fit at all.

I have no idea how to do it but on some forums I've seen peoples converting thousands of armors from oblivion mods, I don't think it should be very hard to convert the original armors and clothes (for the guard armor you have only one mesh to convert, then you just have to apply the correct textures).

Hey, first time poster here but very excited for this project nonetheless. Noticed this thread, and thought I might be of some service. I've started retexturing the soldier armor included in the Witcher 2 armor pack (which is free to use as a modder's resource, IIRC) into some guard armors using bits and pieces from the original Oblivion textures, if y'all are interested:

[External image]

Should I keep going with this?

The right one looks good, maybe you can retexture the greaves with chainmail texture?

Thanks for working on it ; )

It's better to recreate the Oblivion textures from scratch using the originals as reference. Taking out bits and pieces of the originals probably will be considered to be using a modified form of the originals, which we want to avoid to reduce legal issues with Bethesda.

Nonetheless, it looks rather alright at least from that picture. If you have a higher resolution image, it would show the texture detail a lot better.

I just used the original textures because I figured if a straight rip of the armor models was on the table (as people have been discussing), then borrowing some of the textures would probably be alright. Midgetalien's Oblivion Armor Resource for Morrowind takes the city heraldry from Oblivion's textures, and it's been publicly released for 3 years with no issues from Bethesda, so there is some precedent for it.

Here's the completed armor textures (a bit higher res than the last photo): http://i.imgur.com/8faHuc3.jpg I haven't made normal maps for them yet because that's gonna be the biggest pain in the butt (and I have to leave for work soon), so I'll hold off on that step for now if there's a chance you guys aren't comfortable using these.

Not bad at all ;) keep going and don't worry too much about the textures, we can still replace it later with hi res version. For now it's better than nothing.

it doesn't look right, the models look strange with skyrim's skeleton. textures are too low resolution as well.

I like em, but again ya maybe higher resolution textures but that can definitely wait skyblivion is in no rush and likely won't pick up too much momentum till skywind is "finished" but definitely looks good, I'm actually getting kinda excited to see oblivion on skyrim engine

To be honest I was all about Oblivion being in Skyrim. I don't really care for Morrowind really, not my type of land.

Testing the textures in game with normal maps: http://i.imgur.com/plLQhiX.jpg I agree the textures are a little blurry, but the texture is 2048x2048 currently and I actually didn't have to resize the Oblivion textures all that much, so I don't know if using a different source image would make all that much difference :/ Either way, these are basically good to go - if people want them, I'll post a DL link, otherwise, well, I know they'll at least get used in my game :P

I don't know about anyone else but ill take em :D

you can get 3ds max free if you sign up as a student. don't worry you don't need to prove anything at all.

Sir, I think you may have just come up with a brilliant idea to be implemented into Skyblivion/Skywind.

We could make it so the first thing after character generation is you choose "Morrowind" "Oblivion" or "Skyrim," then you play the respective game.

this is what happened in morroblivion.

I can't wait until skyblivion!

I have re-colored some armor I have decided to call Imperial Officer Armor, but I believe it could possibly go good with the imperial palace/imperial guards in the imperial city.

YES!Keep going with that Saint_Jiub...The armor is looking beautiful....Actually its looking perfect.

Why not use the dawnguard heavy armor model for the guard armors, there quite similar.

But they're using it for the wrong reason. This is not the place for musicians to reply and the thread appears to have gone off topic. Unless the person who was making the Imperial Armour comes back with progress there is no need to comment on this thread, please stop :)
