Indoril Armor

Submitted by andmoreagain on

Hey everyone! I've been a long time lurker here but until now I haven't been able to contribute much. Apart from SketchUp I have very little background in 3D modeling but after seeing all the incredible work here with zbrush that's been floating around I decided to try it out myself.

I've always felt like the current Indoril armor wasn't intimidating enough so I've decided to make an attempt at remaking it from scratch based more on the original Morrowind version. As of now I've only done some work on the helmet. It's obviously not finished but here's the progress so far:       What I'm wondering though is how to fit it unto the skyrim body. I'm still a noob when it comes to zbrush so if anyone can help me in that regard it would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks a lot! And yes I've been watching the tutorials. Zbrush is one of those programs that's actually fun to learn!

I'll keep harping on about this, but its good for user to know what the deal is with resources currently available and people wanting to do their own stuff from scratch.

In the past we haven't had that many people working on the project, so the reality was that creating stuff ourselves wasn't a priority; essentially if there was something already made, that was what we were going to use, until something better came along.

Also there is the argument that because there is so much to do that creating stuff that doesn't exist would be time better served. However people will work on what interests them.

Natterforme Ordinator armour looks pretty good from the screen shots, although I have not tried it in game.

However we are never restricted by just choosing one set over another. As long as they look good in game and have some sort of continuity then there is no reason not to have a couple of sets. Andmoreagain helmet is already looking like it might be worn by some higher ranking officers, or just plain evil minded guards! Or it becomes are default for all the Ordinators, but we will see once we have the finished results.

andmoreagain, your work is looking fantastic so far!

i have never been a fan of the Ordinator helmet that Natterforme made. it doesn't look dunmerish and intimidating enough for my taste.

@Outlander

Thanks!

I agree. I think it's very important that the Ordinators give off a fearsome and intimidating vibe which is what I feel Natterforme/Cryo's armor lacks. And as you say, the face does not look like a dunmer face as we know it from Skyrim and Morrowind. It's much too "oblivionized".

@happychappy

I understand what you're saying but as far as priority goes I think the appearance of the Ordinators is an important aspect as well. I would personally put them into the same priority range as ash creatures or monsters simply due to the fact that they're much more memorable than, say, bandits or some other random NPCs. Just my thoughts. :)

I had started working on the armor itself but Zbrush crashed before I managed to save the progress. :( I'll try working on it some more this weekend. Perhaps it would be wise to work separately on separate armor parts and then tweak them later to fit them onto the body mesh?

Great Job. Good to see another armorer.

What about the helmet style portrayed here:

As long as you mkae the eyes more sinister, I think it would look great :)

We need to use Natterforme's armor.  No offense, but it looks so good, that any remake by someone on this forum would simply be a complete waste of time.  I can see some minor modifications of it, but not a complete remake.  I would recommend that you start on a different armor.

In that case we need to contact him on the Nexus and ask, Shadow.

Shadow, no offense taken. You don't have to use it if you don't want to, I am making it nonetheless. But I guess I could work on some other stuff too. Any suggestions?

Anyway, here's a little update:

I just want to say that I love this version of the armor. While the mod that was being used was phenomenal, it didn't seem to capture the original essence (at least for me). Also a a quick question...Are you going to make a Her Hands version of Indoril armor? If so, I've always loved the long sash that came down the front and would definitely like to see that incorporated.

Love the look of the armour so far, very cool! Certainly seems to have the right 'feel' Perhaps see about segmenting the shoulders further though?

Not so much of a fan of the helm as you currently have it, I second the idea of using the painted image posted above as inspiration, it's a good picture

possibly this one as well:

If possible, I'd look at having stuff like the scarves be separate, would mean that they can be different for different ordinators (and be usable by other NPCs) which could REALLY help with the individuality :)

I'll do a few more versions of the helm and then see what fits best. I think I'll just begin with an exact remake of the original Morrowind design and go from there.

@CassiusSkoomassius, If this turns out good I'll do Her Hands version too.

@blindhamsterman, Scarves will be done separately. I really like your idea of using different ones for different ordinators.

is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Believe me, you understand perfectly the concept.

I do not think you need to change other.

Rather we need to see the effect with the texture

The versions on the nexus, i seem to me, mediocre.

Well done ! really

Maybe i just need to see it textured or from another angle, but it seems a little too gaunt to me.

The last update was around 05.2013 so im not sure if theres point in debating on this model unless someone brings the author back.
