This is getting way too confusing imo, correct me if I am wrong, but the only reason we need an installer is to install just the ESM master file and check for an install of Morrowind.
Surely the ESM should be part of the installer along with any BSA files etc needed, why the confusion.?
I had a working installer for the old master way back, and the only reason that it was dropped was because it could not read the registery files for all operating systems.
We only need the installer to be able to install the master ESM.?
This is getting way too confusing imo, correct me if I am wrong, but the only reason we need an installer is to install just the ESM master file and check for an install of Morrowind.
The bigger picture is an efficient way to release new content to users. This will be carried way through even after the initial release v1.0 (2014), so think long term benefits of having one click install of Skywind with all the updates.
Everybody please understand that this is an alpha version of the installer, we don't have testers on our team that have every combination of setups, so like how we get everything tested, we simply create it and then put it out into the world so that we get that range of testers. Its the price a gamers pays for trying Skywind, they are our Guinea pigs.
Hmm, I don't think so. It fixed it for my particular problem, but Sjors had that steam installation problem if you remember in the chat? I guess we can upload the new exe and see how many people still get problems.
I have downloaded and tested the latest version of the installer and it works perfectly now, I am unable to find any installation issues like the ones discussed before.
Stellar work Averrin! If we haven't scared you off with our demands, then I'm looking forward to many more features the installer can do for potential Skywind and Skyblivion gamers.
I think the next series of steps will be to have the download manager and in the future an semi automated updates as part of it.
I can see the need for a master list config file that will have files and download locations associated with a release.
It might be an online file that the installer can check. If the user has in this example version installed 0.6.1 then it can recommend to do the updates of 0.6.2 and 0.6.3 to get the person completely updated. So the file might look similar to the currentVersion.yml but it has all the versions of updates and the download location.
Im still having the skywind esm. not found issue. I might just be doing something wrong but I have have been trying all night to get it working and it still isn't. I have installed the Skywind_v0.6_complete and have extracted it into my data folder. Then I extracted the Update_1_date2_4_13 into my data folder also. then i download the skywind installer v0.6.1 and ran the skywindinstaller.exe. I get the same problem the above people have had. When It detects my morrowind file (it's retail btw) and it also detects my skyrim file (steam). However under skywind it says No Skywind.esm found and the install button is grayed out and i can't press it. This mod looks really cool and i really want to get it working.
All problems with the installer discussed before have been fix in version 0.0.6.1
You will have to give a more detailed description of the problem you have.
At the moment I can not reproduce the problem you describe.
Version 0.0.6.1 should not have any issues.
Try downloading the slywind.exe from the below link, then copy it into the same dir in the installer that you have downloaded letting it overwrite the skywind.exe that you have been running, then run the new one,it should the give you the install button unghosted.
I have tried using the installer that ironman12345 posted. i placed it in my skywind installer folder and let it overwrite my current installer then ran it. however i am still getting the install button grayed out. The attached picture shows my problem. if you look at the picture you can see that i am running the 0.0.6.1 installer at the bottom right hand corner of the screen. to recap i have downloaded and extracted the skywind_v0.6_complete folder and the update_1_date2_4_13 into my skyrim folder. I am running the 6.1 installer from my desktop. and I'm running on windows 8 btw. I think i have done everything right but i could have made a mistake.
Ummm! thats strange [ could be something in Win8 as i use Win7 Pro 64],,when I download and run the installer in the main first post of this thread I get an error log message and can`t install.
But by replacing the skyrim.exe with the one in my link,it works for me.
I'm not sure how to view log files. could you please explain how to find them. And sjors why would i photoshop a picture to make it look like the installer has a bug.
Samdowd14, The log file should be in the main Skywind v0.6 Installer dir where the Skyrim.exe file is after you have run the exe. A tip: [if you have any problems pasting text in the forum] click on the "Switch to rich text" option,I had problems pasting text, but it might be ok for you.
k in my skywind installer folder i have the skywindinstaller executable along with two folders called config and data files. in the config folder there is a yml file called current version. could that be it?
No! that is not the log file, the log file [not sure if it`s a .txt or .log file] only appears after you have run the skywind.exe file and should show any errors that the progam finds when running the exe.
I had errors in the log file when I just downloaded the installer from the link in the main first post, but after downloading and replacing the skywind.exe with the one posted earlier in this thread it worked for me without errors.
If the link in the first post has been updated since then,it should work anyway imo.
This is the link to the skywind.exe that I used to replace the one that was in the download in the first post,it works for me but if as you stated before,it does not work for you then I have run out of suggestions,[sorry].
ok well it was worth a shot. for the record i think this project looks amazing and i wish you all the best of luck. i'm just a little bummed it didn't work for me. and btw when i run the exe it doesn't create an .log or a .txt file. maybe my computer is just messed up or something
in the data files folder in the installer i have a skywind esp but not an esm. i also have a skywind .cmf file and a .bsa file in there. along with a skywind patch .esp. but i don't have a skywind .esm in the installer folder
Sorry, but I can't reproduce it. If some body describe how I can get it, ill fix it fast. Otherwise i builtin detailed logging and bugreporting in new version. I hope it helps
I'm thinking the whole series of releases that we are doing could be called - Elder Scroll Legacies. Rather than MorroBliviRim, or what ever the hell these things concatenate to.
We have a fairly ambiguous name of the website from carrying on the initial project, but can't avoid that. So maybe the installer could be called "Elder Scroll Legacies Installer".
Ah yes .esp and "Data Files". Easy to get confused.
Well, it certainly seems like the program can't find the .esp for some reason. Have you tried running it as administrator yet?
@happychappy
A different name might lead to confusion. "The Elder Scrolls:Legacies" is really ambiguous. "Skywind/Skyblivion installer" is just as long and is much more meaningful a name. Once it installs Morroblivion or some Elder Scrolls 6 game content recreation/conversion too, then of course the name would need changing to something else.
@Averinn:
How are things going with the development of the new Installer? I was hopping we could test it out a bit. The old installer is causing new users to actually forget to download and install the required content.

I like this idea. Could time a rebrand with some big release (like v1.0) to reintroduce the mod to everyones radars.
We can't avoid the fact that 'sywind' and ''morrobilivion'' in particular are terms that the community currently associate as just ''an unfinished illegal thing we can't talk about''. Or some other misguided notion.
If you can introduce The Elder Scrolls: Legacies, to people as this mod that adds Cyrodiil and/or Morrowind to Skyrim, I think that fresh take would see it go far. As long as the content is there to back you up when it happens.
Yeah, it pretty much seems inevitable that there is going to be a rebranding. I mean heck, we would have a Skywind/Skyblivion installer - but what about when we convert past TES games to TES6? I mean if TES6 is set in for example Hammerfell then the installer would be called "Windfell/Hammerblivion/Skyfell installer" and that actually becomes really messy :p
If TES6 is set in Hammerfell, then the Morrowind conversion project should be called Windfell :)
Thanks for posting a screenshot, that’s something we can work with.
When I try to install Skywind, with both Retail-Version of the games selected, all works perfectly. The only thing I see different is the low version number on your Morrowind installation.
I do not know the exact installation criteria for Skywind but I think your Morrowind installation does not include the required official game addons. That could be the issue.
If you have bug like this:
Try this exe: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-Xn0rLoTvRldG1GSVZkUjc0NU0/...
or, if it didnt help
Download this: http://www.rarlab.com/rar/unrarw32.exe rename into unrar.exe and copy to your Windows folder

Thanks for debugging the installer!
Thanks YOU, you found two bugs and describe me it.

Just to let you know, it worked flawlessly for me. Keep up the good work Averrin.

Really strange. I have win 8 and have no bugs. Ill add debug mode to next release to catch this bug.
Yes, version 0.1 in progress, still not ready for publishing=(
If he just posted his LOG file !
I am thinking that there is no issue and he keeps using the old version and complaining about it.
Sjors you can see in my last screenshot that i am using version 6.1. it clearly says in the bottom right hand corner of the screen version 0.0.6.1.
don't you need 1.6 with the expansions? i mean, obviously not yet because the installer isn't completely finished but still.
@Samdowd14:
I do know how to use photoshop!
Please post your installer log file.
I'm not sure how to view log files. could you please explain how to find them. And sjors why would i photoshop a picture to make it look like the installer has a bug.

Is Skywind.esm just in the Data folder? Not in a subfolder?
Also, try running skywindinstaller as administrator, it seems like it might be having permission problems reading or writing somehow.
in the data files folder in the installer i have a skywind esp but not an esm. i also have a skywind .cmf file and a .bsa file in there. along with a skywind patch .esp. but i don't have a skywind .esm in the installer folder

Where are you, Averrin? What about next version of Skywind installer and downloader?
is this coded in python?
Haha, yeah before Skywind and SKyblivion are completed TES6 will already be here.
Well, Skywind will probably be done within a year or two, right? I think TESVI will come out in 3-4 years, judging by the precedent.
Haven't seen Averinn for ages...he needs to log on and get his praise sometime :) Just like to thank him again and for doing such a brilliant job!
Skywind will be done early 2014 by my reckoning, meaning we should be one of the few big quest mods available to play before next Elder Scrolls.
