[RELZ] Regarding Economics

Submitted by Rosenkreuz on

I have recently joined this team and am working on the Economy of Morroblivion. I am also merging my work with Sot's to balance armor, although I have been told that Eloth is working on the weapons.(Send me a PM btw if you read this). Things I have already fixed are: Skooma(Used to cost 500 gp ea, found easily, now is valued identical to Cyrodills at 75 gp ea) Scuttle(had a 100 to 1 gold to weight ratio, came in large clumps. Way too much money too easily. Was reduced to 20 to 1 ratio, possible further reduction.) Anything priced absurdly high(50000 gp books, e.t.c.) Armor Costs & Values(For the most part, still working out the numbers with Sot). Things still needed to fix: Weapon Costs, and possibly values. Anything anyone posts that needs fixing What I would like from anyone who's played with the clean master is to post regarding any problems with item costs that is seriously skewed compared to oblivion. I've heard that dwemer item costs are too high so you get money too easily, but have not had time to look. If anyone can confirm that and/or post any similar problems, please do so. It may be awhile before it is finished, but here is a beta. http://www.mediafire.com/?9xy5738jk2l3gk3 The Weapon costs are rough but better in the beta, but the values are unchanged. Armor is decent. Please leave feedback on anything that bugs you regarding item costs.

It doesn't really matter if skooma costs 500 gold because you probably won't be able to find anyone to sell it to. (There are a select few low-life merchants in Morrowind who will buy it.) Merchants won't do business with you at all if you possess any quantity of skooma or moon-sugar. I made sure the code was working once. I need to go back and make sure it survived the various merges and still functions.

I finally saw what you were referring to about Skooma and Moon Sugar when I was working on the Dialog Compatibility fix. Please excuse my ignorance of Morrowind! As you had said, the reaction to Skooma is very cool; I had never actually had any Skooma on me when trying to deal with a Merchant so I never saw how they react to it. Thank you Rosenkreuz for your help. It would take me three or four times as long as you for me to try to do this myself, and probably would not be as thorough or well done anyway. That sort of thing is not my strong suit :)

RaVirr the trader in balmora buys skooma and moonsugar.

So does Ajira in the Balmora Mages Guild. The rule is Khajit + Deals in Potions = will buy Of course skoomah is the last thing to worry about. There's an ebony blade worth 17,000 gold in the tower ... just begging to be stolen :p

I believe Yoshimo's main point was that Skooma was not something a player could sell anywhere they wanted like I thought. I had thought 2 Skooma Potions in the first cave = 1,000gp for a brand new character that had just been given a whopping 87gp Disbursement. His point is taken; I had never actually tried to sell the Skooma. I was wrong about that being unbalancing.

It is unbalancing if you are a returning player ... and Ravir and Ajira are rather approachable people which you will likely be visiting often (especially if you join the Mages Guild ... heck you have to do 7 whole quests for Ajira). It helps that not everyone will buy skooma ... but not enough to warrant 500 gp.

I agree, and the plan is to change Skooma to match Oblivion 75gp, although this will probably not quite make it into v004.

all prices should be lowered down to oblivion level, except the most pricey artifacts from morrowind(staff of magnus, marara's ring etc) and instead make it more difficult to get them.

Yes, agreed; it is not always that easy, but that is the general idea.

because it was difficult to get armour and wepons more so in morrowind than oblivion and I think morroblivion should try to keep morrowind mainly the same as before.

School has kept me busy the last couple of days, I have not had much time to work on this, and Grandparents are visiting over the next few days, so it may be a while. If I am not given much homework, I may be able to finish it tomorrow, but that is doubtful.

Morrowind prices should not be the same as in Cyrodiil. Like, does a falafel cost the same in wisconsin as in Iran? Does a hot chocolate cost five bucks in florida? Consider supply and demand. Morrowind is under an Imperial quarantine, therefore prices should be higher, especially for food and illicit contraband (remember the Kwama poachers?). Lowering the prices removes that aspect of immersion - is it worth it for all these smugglers?

Edit: Plus, the combat values are not the same in Morrowind as in Oblivion. Creatures seem tougher (compare Morroblivion rats with OB rats). Therefore, a good weapon should be worth a lot of moolah.

Or you could just install Enhanced Economy, which works fine in Morroblivion.
