(test draft) Skywind: Work Priority and Overall Goals

Submitted by Proctor on

What is the goal of the Skywind mod as a whole?
Your personal answer is that goal, and to acquire that outcome you must follow work priority to get there with the other likeminded people.

Most, if not all, systems of Skyrim are being retained rather than replaced by Morrowinds systems.

Until the Mod is finished (but still in the unbalanced stage), this rule of reusing Skyrim and other assets with minimal modification is to be the Unquestionable and Almighty TOP PRIORITY.

TOP PRIORITY is to finish rebuilding a stable TES 3, without balancing and fine-tuning, and with the least time and effort expended.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE is to finish building "TES 3/5: Skywind" as Fast, Beautifully, and as Bugless as Possible without sacrificing visual quality or build stability.
(The result is Dragonborn goes to Morrowind, which makes actual fans of Morrowind very unhappy. As such, this objective is to be completed first THEN surpassed later.)

SECONDARY OBJECTIVE is to make sure the themes, artistic styles, "meanings", and immersion of Morrowind are preserved (if not outright improved or perfected). Including a improved Morrowind Armor and Combat systems and a SPECIAL, SKILLS, and Leveling system.
(The result is Morrowind built in the Skyrim engine. This kills the depthless combat, skilless tasks, and horrible armor systems of Skyrim, while not effecting Skyrim negatively)

SUPER BONUS OBJECTIVE is to incorporate and perfect the proper gameplay mechanics as to reflect Morrowinds' "Realistic" (or "Hardcore") themes and mechanics (and add a "Softcore difficulty system")
Including, but not limited to; Chivalry/Dark Souls level of deep combat, Dark Souls/Fallout 2 level of deep armor, "societal fine tuning", fine tuning hardcore fast-travel, spell creation, and so on.
(The result is a modern Morrowind polished like a blood diamond.)

UNREACHABLE OBJECTIVE is to make Skywind into a "Morrowind 2". With fleshed-out and perfected setting, plots, gameplay, and immersion.

No offense, but what is the relevance of this? It's just kinda clogging the front page.

I'm just trying to learn how to properly post. This is the "introduction" forum after all, were one goes to learn how not to use the threads.

If you don't see the relevance of my topic, then you have not be noticing how many of the core programers only want (as I put it) "Dragonborn goes to Morrowind" while other programers want something more.

This creates anger and wasted efforts, for various reasons.

Forcing "skin deep" coders to work on something they don't want to isn't doing to happen, so the "deeper" coders need to adhere to a work priority format to assist in reducing wasted efforts and increase their own work productivity.

Ultimately, so Skywind and be completed quickly and those fans who want a deeper mod can get to work sooner making a more Morrowind experience.

As, you know, they're all doing this on their free time. Do you comprehend this?

If my thread is clogging the front page, I'd imagine it's because of its young age.

I do apologize if I have in any way offended you.

I am quite sorry.

"depthless combat". considering morrowind and oblivion's combat system is terrible... i'm not sure what to say.

Theres not too many layers to this cake; once again there is a bit of a misconception about how this project gets done.

Not really. Nobody is actually in a hurry and people just work on what they enjoy. So TOP PRIORITY is to have fun on a project with other people who also enjoy the challenge of creating a game that we all like. Why do people Mod, Model or work on a project in general? Its the process of learning new stuff and achieving neat stuff along the way. Sure a finished product is satisfying, but you're thinking from a gamers perspective who wants to play the game asap...sorry we are not doing this for you :-P

There are far too many elements that need to come together before you would have a beta version of the game, that its better to get as many people working on different threads as possible, so it can converge in the future.

Agreed, they are both terrible.

That's why I poorly stated that a non-essential (to Skywind as a whole, it's excessive) task it to write a modification that takes inspiration from games like "Chivalry" and "Dark Souls" that adds a better combat system.

(It ties into the second half of this test threads' topic, which isn't posted, because I want to add it after I've rewritten the currently posted beginning as to be comprehendible.)

Such coding is a monumental task, of course, but there's likely someone zealous enough and willing to write it. If there hasn't been already, of course.

Still, such a task is pointless as I have clearly failed to articulate my other more important point. Opps.  xD

Yeah, this isn't a business. It's no fun to go rehash a bunch of vanilla assets and look like 75% of the mods on other websites. People here just kinda work on what they want. I imagine less work would get done if people had specific tasks . It seems like anyone can work on Skywind if they can make something good. And that's a good way to get something done

I agree with GendunDrup.

Firstly this is not a business,it is a community of like minded modder`s or fans who are having fun and at the same time learning a lot.

Skywind is being developed at a pace that gives all those interested a chance to help with or learn from the project.

It will be completed in the future, but not until the team and members agree that it is finished.

I agree with the OP that Skywind could be finished quicker by just making it like all other mods out there, but that is not the plan,we are trying to make Skywind popular and that takes time.
