End of Skyrim :)

Moving to our next adventure

Skyrim has been a labor of love for us since we started designing it in 2006. We never imagined it would become the phenomenon it has. And that is because of you, the fans. It was all of you who made it a success. We can’t thank you enough for embracing the game, spreading the word, and making it your own.

For the last year and a half we’ve been working on new content for Skyrim; from the game updates, Creation Kit, Steam Workshop, Kinect support, to DLCs. Parts of our team have also been in pre-production on our next major project, and that game is at the point where it requires the studio’s full attention to make it our biggest and best work yet.

Even though we’re moving on, we’ll still have minor updates to Skyrim as needed. We’ve invested so much of ourselves into Skyrim and will never truly say goodbye to it.

We loved hearing your stories, your in-game triumphs, and your suggestions. One thing stuck out to us through those emails, letters, and postings. And that is – video games matter. They’re as important to you as they are to us. It’s not just about entertainment, it’s about your time. And you chose to spend it with our game.

Thank you again for all your support. We hope you stay engaged in the gaming community here and elsewhere. Keep spreading the word. Games are the world’s best entertainment because they can do what other forms cannot – fill you with the wonder of exploration and the pride of accomplishment. We look forward to sharing our next adventure with you.

Until next time,

Bethesda Game Studios

Yeah I saw this a few hours ago... I'm sad.

Now it's left to modders to fill in the blanks. :)

I wish beth would at least do one more DLC dragonborn was good but it still was just snow and more snow and some ashes...

so maybe in about 4-5years we will get our TES6 sins im shure that they all ready have the art guys on it right know sins the other one are working on fallout 4....even tho I want fallout I can live with out it , I just want more TES but not TESO

Why would they create TES 6? TESO covers all the areas that they would have done. Not really marketable if you have a MMO dictate the landscape.

You can thank parent company Zenimax for destroying the series, wise and wonderful industry that it is.

they will make tes VI they have claimed so them selfs .

and so far as I can tell TESO is very inclosed and empty , I belive they maid TESO to shut up the ppl how get crying for an mmo ever sins morrowind , and well I hate TESO it seem like a wast but IMO tes will never ever die and beth will continue making them

also its been said that TESO will not have all provinces at launch and will not have all cities in the nation it has , so....its just a generic mmo with an TES skin , to me its nothing more than expensive fan fic

It all depends on Zenimax agenda. If they want to keep pushing the ESO brand then I don't think you will see another TES game for another 6 years, if at all, because they will pass the brand onto the online version. Bethesda have no say in what projects they work on.

That is of course if its successful, and that is a big if.

bethesda had a news article about this claiming that TES singleplayer will never die...

but I do see your point and I do fear this as well.

I hate TESO (hope I dont ofend anny TESO fans)

This came as a huge surprise to me, but I am a bit glad. I hate the Skyrim province, the guilds (except the Brotherhood) and the quest line. I felt completely out of place if I made an elf, the NPCs are as dead as draugr and the loot lists make exploring pointless, since every dungeon appears to share said list. Let Obsidian take the reigns.

The Skyrim mod for Morrowind makes the province look far more interesting than the one in TES5...

What skyrim mod for MW?

to bad i am missing the dlc that say's it al     2 real dlc that wasn't that al

but nowe i can look out for fallout 4

happychappy -- I'm sure TES6 isn't their next project, but I doubt TESO will spell the end of the singleplayer games. Assuming TESO is even profitable enough long-term to make up for it, ultimately there will be a large chunk of player demographic that will never cross over between the two games. If Zenimax has any brains (and I believe they do), they'll keep the TES train running. It makes financial sense.

teso has nothing to do with the actual elder scrolls series as it's a prequel and landscapes and stuff can change a lot in a thousand years or what ever it was.

The Elder Scrolls series will have to take another turn however. You are no longer delivering a game of unexplored lands, even if it is 1000 year difference. Hopefully that just means that they have to get super inventive. Delivering Valenwood for example as the next TES game, just wouldn't have the same marketing punch. Sure the actual content could be amazing and justify critical acclaim, but Zenimax and Bethesda will have to be aware of the short comings of such a release as being enticing for the consumer.

Look I'm just saying, it could very well be on the cards, that you would not see another TES game as a single player. It maybe that they completely shift focus to an online version.

I kind of hope the next TES game is in Elsweyr.  I'm not a furry, or a big Khajiit person, but I do love the desert.

Are you kidding me? Did you not notice how successful Skyrim was? Even if Zenimax made the decision, they'd totally do an Elder Scrolls VI.

Skyrim home of the nords - a lot of TR modders are helping to make the province of Skyrim in Morrowind's engine.

The image won't load for me :(

But yeah, if you want, you can check out the West Reach so far. You can only explore for now but quests will come later. The next map will be Karthwasten which will be around 1.5 or 2 Balmoras. The scale is going to be much bigger as the borders have to match up with TR.

It's a large gif of Luke Skywalker yelling after Darth Vader told him that he's his father.

It was quite a blow when the plug was pulled, for me at least :/  On a lighter note, personally, I hope Bethesda makes Elder Scrolls VI in Valenwood. :)

Nah I wanna see one of the beast race provinces

that was a bit uncalled for... it was a great game. better than pretty much every game of the last 5 years.

Agreed considering it's the only one I still play

I'm up for an Elsweyr elderscrolls :) Although I've been hearing some buzz about hammerfell :I

Bah on hammerfell, they will probably do high rock or whatever to continue the thalmor stuff :(
Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Ugh, High Rock is just about the only province I don't want to visit.

Hopefully Zenimax Online's work won't have too big an impact on future Elder Scrolls. =/

I second that.

why would you not want to go to high rock...?

Because Daggerfall's been there already and the human races are absolutely boring. Part of what made Morrowind great was having an unfamiliar culture in a foreign land, letting you explore more than just the landscape. Oblivion was in part bland because it just had stock European stuff, and while Skyrim had a lot to make up for this, it still had houses, people, and villages that were too familiar.

High Rock's only appealing aspect (to me) is the politics, and I'm not convinced that Bethesda's current design philosophy is conducive to a game centered around conniving from court to court. Otherwise, High Rock sounds like a perfectly standard high fantasy province.

The other provinces, though? They all have something suitably alien that I'd really love to sink my teeth into. Elsweyr and Black Marsh/Argonia are self-explanatory, I think. Hammerfell has the tension between the Crowns and the Forebears. And even though Valenwood and Summerset Isles/Alinor are also relatively standard high fantasy, they sound so astoundingly beautiful that I could look past that. Besides, those are the two biggest Thalmor hotspots right now, ripe with all kinds of neat questing possibilities.

I would like to see Valenwood - they teased it to us in Oblivion and it looks really interesting :(

Or maybe Hammerfell - I'm actually intrigued with the lore of it. Or Elsweyr or Argonia for the same reasons.

Perhaps I wasn't specific enough, I second the last part of what he said, I don't want them working too much on Elderscrolls Online.

I'm a Breton after all... #Highrock

^ they speak the truth. As a Khajiit, I'd love to see Elswyr, but any truly foreign land would be a welcome site for sore eyes.

Exactly.

Black Marsh's what I'm hoping for. Would look so sweet.

I really do think the next place will be Summerset Isle, where we'll deal with another war between the Empire and the Thalmor.  Unless they plan on just saying "Meh" to that storyline which would upset me because I was looking forward to one, but at the same rate I never thought Bethesda did a great job with writing that story in.  Either choice wouldn't surprise me much.

As for concerns regarding TESO, it's like SWTOR.  They made it thousands of years before the actual storyline so they could get lazy and make a bunch of crap up without ever impacting any game in the real universe.  TESO is a moneymaker with minor features like first person view to make a quick buck.  Just like how Dawnguard had the "omgcrossbowsmustget" factor and Dragonborn utilized a morrowind landmass to get people to buy it without having any huge content.

Zenimax won't get anything more than profit from TESO.  TES will remain its wonderful single-player series.  Bethesda can't afford to stop TES single player games, they'll go bankrupt.

My personal guess to the next one will be Redguard. Laugh of you want but we pretty much know they did alot of work on it before they canned it. A there was suppose to be another one after that. Why finish at the end of a console cycle when you have two new systems coming out this holiday season. They can use the current engine and use settings on max and the console folks would be none the wiser. Plus you could have a surprise release ready in time for the new system releases that would be sure to sell tons and you would already have most of the work done. With the settings enhancement console gamers would be forced to get a new system to play the new game. Oh well it would be nice if I were right anyway. I'd like to play the end of the story instead of seeing it in a random book a hundred years latter in tes6.

Ideal - Elsweyr or Argonia

More realistic - Hammerfell

i would like to see hammerfell like  we got fallout new Vegas different team and place  same magic and style

This was definitely a while ago, but my two cents on it are this:

Brief disclaimer: the majority of my Elder Scrolls time was spent on Oblivion; ~ 1700 hours.

I think that in as many ways as they improved the over all experience, Bethesda also dropped the ball. Skyrim was definitely the peak of their gameplay mechanics, with a fully integrated, independent-hand duel-wielding system, awesome magic visuals/gameplay, cool powers, a sprint function, updated sneak, a very balanced and fairly in depth perk/ leveling system etc. etc. etc.

But. What happened to truly building your character the way you wanted to build it like you could in Morrowind/Oblivion?

The population of the province was nowhere near as in depth as it was in Morrowind (literally every NPC had a back story) or Oblivion (where you could at least talk to everybody about themselves and where they lived).

The variety of weaponry was deplorable as compared to Morrowind, and really all weapon types played the exact same (again, unlike Morrowind), so it became inevitable that your pure rogue picked up a warhammer and strapped on heavy armor to go about senselessly slaughtering bunnies and bandits, and never mind the ever-so-adorable dragons.

Now, much of what I have mentioned has been mend by modders, but the fact is, they shouldn't have to have been fixed. The Skyrim and Oblivion modding communities expended and impressive amount of time and effort fixing the games so that they felt more like the general populace believed the games ought to have felt. The very existence of this site is a testament to that; missing the good old days.

The Morrowind community spent inordinate amounts of hours expanding upon an already great game via quests and new lands, and I hope that, when Bethesda wraps up FO4, they turn their heads back a little with every intention of going forward with their best foot.

Blitzkrieg3801

I agree with most of what you said, but I have to stop you here. The vast majority of NPCs in Morrowind had no backstory ("I am Sloppy Joe, Sorcerer and Head Barber of the Great House Redoran" is not a backstory, it's just a generic background topic grabbing at random NPC strings). Sure, you could have long discussions with almost everyone, but almost everyone said the exact same thing. Yeah, there were a select number of memorable characters, but that's true of every Elder Scrolls game.

In Oblivion and Skyrim both, far more of the NPCs have unique backstories than in Morrowind. It's just that in Oblivion, they have far less generic topics, and in Skyrim, they have almost no generic topics whatsoever. Morrowind had an abundance of dialogue, but that doesn't mean it had better dialogue.

As for which game had better dialogue... They all had their strong points and their weak points. I won't argue about which was best, because invariably everyone always cherry picks the best dialogue/quest from their favored game and the worst dialogue/quest from their least favorite game.

And that's all I have to say about that. I love all of the games to pieces, and I do think that each game has been a slight improvement in one way or another, though there are absolutely things from Morrowind that I miss.

Whole new game, Hammerfell, expansion pack: Summerset Isles, since they aren't that big.
