Hey all! Late night here. Just learning Sculptris and so I chose the most Geometrically simple creature I could to start with the Spider Centurion!
Hope you guys can use him. Of course it's WIP.

looks hot bro!
I think SheepDogWoof was making Yagrum Bagarn, so you might want to chat with him to make sure the models match accordingly. :)

these do look like the concept sheep was working on.
I really like these, but i think the legs need to be pushed more toward the side. the front and back ones are too far front and back in my opinion. Not a whole lot mind you. just shifted a tad.
Why? We already have a dwemer spider.
Do you? I'm sorry, someone posted a list earlier of what needed to be done. I clicked on a link on that list. Apparently it's in BAD need of an update. So, does anyone know what actually needs done?
Yep, here's a list of what's done, what's not done, what's being done and what we have passable placeholders for but could do with custom models in the future.

Alright, thanks alot! Started work on the Ascended Sleeper.

That looks very good.
"Smooth"
Damn straight. That's some nice quality there Raster. :D
*sigh* If only all you talented modelers had been here when morroblivion was the main focus. Looks like it takes Skyrim-level eyecandy to lure the elusive 3D artist from its cave. Well, all of them besides Qwerty.
Valtallan, I think there is a surge of new artists due to the current availability of sculpting tools. If you would try to do a low poly creature model right from the beginning, it would take an incredible amount of experience for a modeller to do it up to the current game standard. When Oblivion was the big thing, I don't think the sculpting tools were mature enough to attract widespread attention.
Back on topic - the head looks very nice indeed :)
This is actually the first time I've ever modeled. I've sculpted IRL multiple times with clay, even took a class in college but PC modeling has always eluded me. I'm trying to learn and I hope I'm doing alright.
Anyway, update!

I have one reference shot I've been using that I snagged off of google, lol.
very nice work raster :) i took the liberty and upgraded you to contributor, see you in the chat area :)
The Ascended Sleeper does look very good,
however I'm not sure about the mechanical Dwemer spider, it looks a little too organic.
Clearly your talents are more suited for living creatures right now. I can see how your strength in oganic creatures with the ascended sleeper, damaged the qualiy of the dwemer spider.
Which is totally understandable. I am modeling Yagrum Bagarn atm, and the mechanical spider is tough.
Use subtools, machines and hand crafted objects in real life are made of several parts, your model should be the same.
Each of these should be a separate subtool:
Main casing ( The "head" )
The pod underneath the main casing which the legs are attached to.
all six of the legs should be split into three subtools. One for the wheel separating the top segment from the bottom segment. One for the top segment of the leg, and one for the bottom segment.
Watch these, and keep Zbrush open while you are watching/listening to them, do what he is telling you to do, while he is telling you to do it. Always watched parts over again if you don't think you did it right. Pause the videos to see where he is clicking on the screen, etc.

the mechanical spider looked pretty organic in morrowind though. It's the big bubble on the head

Which is a gas bag possibly made from leather, it is not living organic tissue, and the rest is completely made from Dwemer metal.
Thank you very much for your critique and helpful information SheepDog! I was actually looking at your models earlier and wondering how I could achieve quality like that. lol Your stuff is amazing.
As far as the mechanical aspects of the Spider:
1. Those pictures are a severe alpha. Pretty much just the beginning of the model with a few blobs here and there.
2. I have no idea how to make 'clean' cuts or square objects, working all from zspheres and stretching/molding. Hence the organic feel. I'm sure there is something in those tutorials you mentioned that will help with that. >.> -has no idea how to make flat surfaces in Sculptris- I mean I have the flattening tool but it still makes things feel organic. lol
3. I was also going from a reference on the wiki. In there it states that they believe that the bag could be fashioned from "Living Metal" which was mentioned in a Dwemer lorebook.
But I basically agree with you SheepDog. The mechanical parts of the Spider are definitely too organic looking. Again, those tutorials should help. :D

Don't worry I am literally in the same boat myself,
Aha I only got into Zbrush just over a month ago. Hard surface stuff is really tough to get into.
I can't recommend the digital tutors website enough. There is a whole series of videos dedicated to hard surface techniques. It unfortunate about the $30 month subscription, but it really is worth every cent.
Play around with radial symmetry, on the bar at the top is a section called "Transform" there are a lot of symmetry options to mess around with in there. Just open up a fresh sphere tool and see what you can do with it. It could be helpful for shaping the lower body.
And thanks (: I'm having more fun with this form of art than I ever had with any other. Seeing a ball of grey wax turned into a character from one of my favourite video games is extremely rewarding..
I didn't know you and Raster were in a boat together, SheepDog! Why wasn't I invited? :'(

It all started when Raster was a young boy whose family ran a small zoo in India...only to end up stranded in a boat with a sheep, a dog and a tiger named "woof"...

I lol'd for far too long at this, and now I feel like I'm giving you too much credit..
Also Raster here you can find a ton of brushes, there are a lot of free ones.
In the "Top sellers" tab to the right, they're all free, which is why they are "top sellers" they are the only ones that people get from the site xD
Clothing brushes, like stitching and folds.
and the Metal and Techno brushes will be useful for Dwemer stuff.
