Skywind Performance

So I was wondering, what exactly is it that makes Skywind's performance worse than Skyrim's? In Skyrim I play smoothly at 60fps with Realistic Lighting Overhaul and Climates of Tamriel etc, but as soon as I go into Skywind it sometimes drops below 50. Is it because the textures are a higher resolution?

Well if you are not running

Well if you are not running hi-res textures for Skyrim, then probably yes that would be the difference. Also I found our LOD for landscapes was made at a high setting and I really noticed a load and fps difference with that.

Because of bad collision

Because of bad collision meshes on some models. Even a single bad mesh in cell is enough to screw havok and drop fps.

Isn't the open cities a factor? I'm sure that was one of the main reasons why Morroblivion had bad performance in some areas. Or maybe Skyrim is just more forgiving?

Yeah good point about open

Yeah good point about open cities. I used the open cities mod for Skyrim and it rendered the game unplayable for me. The stutter and lag was horrendous.

We have a lot of optimization we can do, but obviously there is a shit ton to do first.

On a positive note I have almost replaced all of the stupidly hi poly clutter which has been the cause of many interior problems. Hopefully this will help there.

The LOD in Skywind actually

The LOD in Skywind actually looks a bit odd. Everything sort of fades out to a brown-ish colour with barely any detail

I have similar performances

I have similar performances in my heavily modded skyrim and in Skywind, even better in Skywind I'd say. :P

This conversation reminded me

This conversation reminded me of one of the first tutorials I've ever seen for Skyrim.

I do not know if it is actually possible but let me try to explain it to you:

When you create your very first "tutorialized" dungeon (the tomb of your carriage friend from startgame!) you get to a point where you can create some kind of occlusion point, which if I understand correctly, makes it so that the game doesnt load whats behind it. Maybe the name was "OCCLUSION PLANE" or something? I do not understand completly how it works but if something like this was possible to use at each city entrance maybe we could drop the lag!

Dunno XD

I am at this time working on

I am at this time working on putting "roombound" boxes and portals into the internal cells of Skywind, but it will take a while to complete all of the cells.

About the external to internal bounding or occolution [spelled wrong] it could be done also I guess.

In Skywind interiors I get

In Skywind interiors I get 60fps, never drops, but exteriors are another story, I drop down to the 40's all the time.

I'm no expert but I believe a lot of stuff is still being changed tweaked replaced and the like, perhaps you should trying and get some confirmation on stuff that it safe to work on and ready to he optimized so all your hard work doesn't end up being trashed or something?
