Hi! I'm following this group since the beginnings of Skywind, and I felt I have to help you, so with SheepDogWoof's help, I started to learn Zbrush. I'm learning it for just 2 days, so I'm not an expert. I do this for my favourite game, Morrowind, so I want it to be beautiful. Because of this If my work is not good enough just tell me, I will understand it.
Before everything else: Sorry if I make mistakes in English, I'm Hungarian.
And here come my work:
I started to model the Scrib, because its easier than the most creatures, and its one of my favourite. :)
The pictures. I hope you'll like it.

Please write your opinions, ideas and anything else you want to write connected to my Scrib.

hi :) i like your scrib, and since your now a contributor, i welcome you to our warm and friendly chatroom :)
Vilkommen!
hello another zbrusher!
resolution is too small for me to see, is that entirely dynamesh level or did you subdivide up 2-3 times? its unwise to use a very detailed dynamesh, usually its best to dyanmesh at resolution 8-16, though somtimes it glitches
Some pointers:
-Use "basic material" as the shader. Skin shader is nice but doesnt you see the real detail you made.
-Use clay/clay tubes/trimdynamic to create harsher edges and less "wobbly" shapes.
-Make the legs thicker. High res meshes dont define the final shape, the low poly does. the low poly bake wont find it easy to pick up the detail of needles. You can make the low poly legs really thin instead.
I thought we already had one of these from dragonborn? well at least we can just rig it to that skeleton.
Next: colour it. use colour spray on standard brush in RGB, with cellular alpha, and paint vibrant colours.
Look up tutorials on "noodling" or "airbrushing" in youtube.
Also, are you going to learn how to create the low poly and UV if you havent already? 3dsmax is generally the best, blender is easier to get hold of.
It's a good start, but, don't we kind of already have a really nice one from dragonborn?
No we don't have. We have an insect called ash hopper, and it doesn't look like scrib at all. Scribs were my favourites in Morrowind so I wouldn't like to change them with a random insect. :)
Don't worry, I'm working on the scrib so hopefuly it will look nicer. :)
I don't know if the Ash Hopper was intended to be some sort of scrib "evolution" or not. But I disagree that it's a great choice for a scrib. It only has 6 legs, unlike scribs which have 8. Plus the backlegs are grasshopper shaped. Abdomen's also fairly different. Not to mention the fact it jumps rather than walks.
I think what you've got going looks pretty good Wolfid. It may be a bit of extra work to rig, texture and animate it, but I think it's enough of an improvement to warrant it, at least somewhere down the line.
I think what was decided was to make a new Scrib for the Bitter Coast, West Gash, and add Ash hoppers to like the Ashlands and Molag Amur.
Okay, you've made some points, and I'm perfectly fine with you working on it. But...... It's labeled as a scrib EVERYWHERE, well, except ingame anyway. :)

Referencing this image, I might suggest making the middle section of the legs a bit shorter (or the other two parts a bit longer), and also to consider making the joints more knuckle-like. Incidentally, are those bumps on the sides of the head supposed to be eyes or horns? I always thought it was the latter, but it's kinda hard to tell.

I think they actually planned to make it a Scrib, but at the last second said fuck it, let's make it a new creature, but similar to a Scrib.

this. I like this.
I think those bumps are eyes. In Morrowind there are a lot of alien things. :D
Thanks for the warning. I didn't see that the first legs are longer, but I will correct it.
Ashhopers are scribs. They're marked as scribs inside the dragonborn.bsa
Of course that has nothing to do with the fact that the programmers named it that way during development so stuck with it :-P
Looking good, try and make the bottom jaw more pronounced, this always makes creatures look less smiley and happy, unless that is what you want?
I LOVE this thing. lol for a bunch of rookies at zbrush i am flat out amazed at how good these things look. Scrib was one of my favorite monsters in morrowind, and I would love to be able to have one as a pet!
But i think the original from morrowind did indeed have eyes.... just really really small ones.

I think the 6 yellow thing on its head are eyes, just a little alien-like eyes. :)
Wolfid wrote:
I was pretty sure they were horns, or some bone like material. They don't really seem to have eye-like qualities about them.
Ahhh but if they aint eyes, then where dey eyes at?!
SheepDogWoof wrote:
I don't know. Maybe their eyes are hidden in those dark patches between those horn things. From a biological point of view, those horn things would make bad eyeballs. They stick too far out of their head for proper protection. From a physical point of view, the shape of those structures would not be able to bend light efficiently for those creatures to be able to see at all. They would need a lens like shape. That is why all eyeballs are round.
But don't forget the Scrib is an insect. It doesn't have mammal-like eyes.
Those are eyes? They look like spikes in this video.

It can't be an insect, it's got 8 legs. And even if it was any type of insect or arachnid it would still have round eyes. Pointy eyes just can't physically exist.
Ohhh yep, definitely spikes.
Ok. But then where are the eyes?
I used this drawing for modelling too. I know its not official but...
Oh and there are some new pictures:
It's your scrib, if you want it to have eyes, give it eyes. It's no fun if it looks 100% like the Morrowind one anyway.
Mhm I agree^
I mean I've made a few changes to the work I've done so far,
I don't think they were referring to the actually earth definition of "insect". How about arthropod as a way of clearing things up.
Any of numerous invertebrate animals of the phylum Arthropoda, including the insects, crustaceans, arachnids, and myriapods, that are characterized by a chitinous exoskeleton and a segmented body to which jointed appendages are articulated in pairs.
Sooo pointy eyes are not possible...but magic is...
Yeah, look at Sheepdog's creatures. He added some of his own touches to them and they still look great. He added aspects from the Oblivion and Morrowind Clannfear to his Clannfear. And aspects from the TESO Kagouti and the Morrowind Kagouti and that looked great too. I also suggest someone doing this when doing the Dreugh. Though keep the Dreugh's human like face since throughout the Elder Scrolls games, they're supposed to show the Dreugh slowly evolving. In Daggerfall, the Dreugh was a fleshy octopus man. In Morrowind they were an octopus man with a crab-like shell. And in Oblivion, they were crab people. It's kind of lore breaking that Land Dreughs are in TESO, because they're not supposed to exist yet.
ADD in a nutshell ^
I'm working on the Dreugh right now, the base mesh, seeing as the Clannfear, and Kagouti are similar, and the Kagouti is similar to both the Alit and Guar both of which I am about to get started on, the dreugh is far different. and as Gendun has said. Don't worry about adding your own little touches, and taking inspiration from multiple sources in The Elder scrolls, there isn't much really when it comes to Scrib, but if you move onto something more iconic that has multiple versions throughout the series, mix and match parts you like and dislike. But stay true to the Morrowind look more than others, imo.
Actually, maybe take some inspiration from the greater variants of Kwama since they're related
happychappy wrote:
Agreed that they might be classified as arthropods. In fact they are kwama larvae. However, they are unique in their metamorphosis that they might develop into either quadrupeds or limbless terrestrial locomotives. Any biologists out there?
I still don't think those points are eyes. I just think they look and make more sense as spikes than eyes. Some larvae can have proto-eyes that change to more advanced eyes after metamorphosis.
I know I generally rant on about different things a lot. As a student of physics and a hobbyist historian I love tracing things back to their origins and tracing out their development until total understanding. It's an obsessive curse of mine. I'll do a proper study on the kwama when I get the chance.
I think it looks fantastic but I personally think the blobs should be spikes, not eyes. :) I'd create the eyes similar to what they are on the ash hopper or leave them out completely...Wouldn't be the first eyeless insect. :P
Anyways awesome work!
I decided. Scribs see with smelling. ok?
Edit: Oh and a question. Can I make Nix Hound too?
Edit: Edit: Ok, when I finished the Scrib, I will make the Nix-Hound too.
hey wolfid like your scrib to bad there isnt much difference whit the original i always some personal touch
also on that nixhound i saw a comment on the cliff racer tread about that dont knowe if it was just the picture ore that alexanderb was doing somthing whit but u should chek out you dont want to do doubel work

Scribs are actually Kwama's larvel form, so it probably just hasn't grown eyes yet. As for Nix-Hounds, ask Alex about it.
Thanks for the warning. I forgot that alexanderb worked on that. I will ask him.
So can I leave the eyespikes like in the pictures?
I don't see why not.
I always thought these were the eyes on the scrib. They're just really small and beedy.
Ok, I'll have some time in the summer so I can work on the scrib.
Here is a small update of the head's texture. If you like it I'll do that for the full body.
Just the upper side of the head is ready.
hmm... I like it....but it's a little too purpley for my taste. But otherwise I really like it. ^^
hey i found the new kwama creatures made for ESO
http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/news/post/2013/07/03/creati...
i think the designs are a bit different from morrowind but i particularly like the kwama worker but the kwama queen wasn´t shown
(it seems that BegottenMeridian was right those yellow things on scrib were spikes and not eyes and they don´t have any eyes )
do you think that youll be done soon :)
your scrib looks amazing man! keep it up and screw the ash hopper :p
