WIP- Cluttering Skywind Caves and Mines
Edited by: grumpycat on 03/15/2014 - 04:03

this is a huge improvement :) your doing a great job :)
looks good thats skyrim lv make over
(is there gone be ore veins adet also in these cave's and mine's ?)
@eloth- thanks!
@no 1- yea i will probably add ore veins according to what type of cave/mine they are or similiar to.
If you add flora in the caves, don't forget to add natural light/sunrays (no light=no flora) there are also a lot of cool effects in skyrim (flying dust, drops...) :
nice job so far ;) maybe I'll take a few caves myself (we should have a spreadsheet for this)
Very nice. I was originally working on this before I moved to landscaping, so my esp actually did like one or two interiors, don't remember which. Anyways, be sure to make use of the nord vines from Skyrim and what not.
@anthelius- Yea, i will definitely work on the lighting, and we should get a spreadsheet started.
@SquallyDaBeanz- I will make sure to make use of those vines.
Don't forget to not use Skyrim's assets, only objects from Skywind (names starting with a digit).
Yea, i was told it would be okay if i took something from skyrim but duplicated it and renamed it starting with "0". Is that okay?
Yes. Don't use directly items from Skyrim.esm otherwise it will potentially be more difficult to convert the master the next time around. However, you are allowed to duplicate any skyrim record, when merged that would be a skywind record.
Talking about merges, don't hesitate to post small esp:
1/ you would see your change in game more quickly
2/ it's easier to deal with potential merge conflict.
Other than that, very good work !
And I guess in terms of priority, the places visited in the main quest would be more important first, but work on what you want :)
About using Skyrim assets. The way we have worked in the past is that its better to have people be creative and use what they want, doing good judgement calls on if its a good fit within the Morrowind theme.
What we can do is a scan of all the assets used in Skyrim and move those over to our Morrowind folders at a later date. I've found it too constrictive and slows down the process of getting people into editing the world otherwise. Trial and error has proven this.
At the end of the day (will actually be at the end of the year in reality) an auditing process will be done on everyone of the assets used. This might mean removing or replacing it depending on a number of factors.
Digital is right, its better to get plugin in for merging sooner rather than later, even if its not finished, or not satisfied. We have developer releases, so this helps to stop conflicts and helps with overall communication :)
I'm working A-onward, first cell is abaelunmine. Turning these smooth-bored worm tunnels into rocky caves of delight.
Don't forget something they don't pay attention to at Bethesda; nearly every major stalactite should have a stalagmite directly under it. In the games, hardly any do.
I suppose I should move my claim into this thread as well. I would like to do the glass mines. Currently my windows partition is not functioning however, so if someone else beats me to it I'll just move onto something else when I fix the problem.
edit: reuploaded esp with brighter cave, deleted darker version to avoid confusion.
reupped a third version, stabilizing the imagespace and adjusting the lights.
There are many deep recesses in the back corners of a lot of rocks especially on the ceiling because the intention is for the corners of the ceiling to remain darkened. This is just a demo so I can get a feel for how people like the style. thanks again!
I'll skip the glass mines if I find any, mycorn. Since Thanakor hasn't posted in 2 weeks I'm gonna hijack this thread for the time being. I need criticism on this first cell that I'm about ready to call finished. I can go back and fix it after people pick at it a bit, but for now I'm moving on to the next. If anyone has time to do this, please explore the entire cell.
I won't assume everyone reading this knows this, so open console on title screen ~ and type coc abaelunmine
Including a single preview screen(dark version)
Important note: equip a torch if you need to, and check around. Light isn't reflecting on many rock objects at many different angles/distances. I think this is only happening on MW assets, not sure.
Also I've never given one of my mods to anyone else to use, so let me know if I'm ruining everthing.
Here goes.
Too dark, needs more ambient lighting.
People always complain on how Bethesda do lighting in their games since it is always bright, and hence there are a lot of mods to make everything darker usually called "realistic". But you need to understand they do it for a good reason - game should look normal on any device with any hardware and any contrast/saturation/brightness settings to not give an eye strain for a player. I agree with them, health care over immersion and realism.
"Darkness" should be optional, not forced on everyone. If you make a separate imagespace for most interiors, they can be later tweaked with an optional plugin to be darker for those who want immersion.
Thanks for looking. I was planning on doing just that; I like to show the dark side first. I will reup with the modified imagespace so it's easier to notice all the flaws, that way people can point them out for fixing
I also agree that lighting is more of a finishing touch anyway, I'll probably spend less time on it as I go through these cells and go back to them to fine-tune it or even just leave it for an expert to tweak
Thanks for pointing this out zilav, it'd be a shame if I didn't get any feedback because it's too dark for some people to notice things
reup complete
Personally I dug it being a little dark. I like dark caves/nights anyway... However Zilav is probably right most people might not dig on it as much. I think its cool to have to have torches/spells to see in a cave so if there is a dark version I'll use that but I suppose for the main pack brighter would go over better I guess.
Just tried out the bright version too. Brightness is good and the mine looks cool. Diamonds taste good... mmmmm diamonds...
Yea we will just have a darker version optional at a later time or something. Can always just use ENB, also I adjusted the lights to a normal imagespace for a more vanilla morrowind feel... but you don't have to download it a third time lol. Just come back for my the next cave and let me know if it's awesome
Waiting for a next cave :)
Preview of current WIP first draft. I hope everyone will recognize this bandit hideout...
Too dark again :)
p.s. looks like a cave near Seyda Neen.
just a dark preview
i already fixed it before i even posted these, added a faint omni covering the whole room
p.s. it might be everyone's first dungeon!
try do add more distant fog, use these settings in lightingtemplate:
fog near: 250.0000
fog far: 4500.0000
pow: 0.6
max: 0.5
On my way to town I came across the first cave you did without noticing I was at it. Then I walked in and bam.. It really does look amazing compared to the normal mines/caves. Cant wait to see more!
were you missing any textures? there is a cloth sack i used that apparently lost a texture in the last update.
These screens look absolutely amazing. Far better than just vanilla. however i should caution that we don't want the caves looking too similer to skyrims caves. I mean they are in a different region and all, and should have a different feel to them in general. But so far I think your doing a pretty good job. Just try not to lose it and go overboard in the future. lol
I am somewhere in the middle of your releases so it may not be missing in mine. I did not notice any however. Can not wait for more! The only thing I can suggest is maybe don't put so much into some of them particularly the smaller ones. Just to maybe save you the head ache. I mean I am all for each one being awesome, but might be waisted on some of the quick, small in and out spots. Just an idea. Anyway good stuff! :)
They are just rocks, how could they look less like skyrim caves?

hmm... well I do suppose I didn't explain my self well enough. lol What I had meant, was that I hope you don't deviate too much from the overall design of the caves as they are. I know your not adding or taking away chambers or anything, I just mean that you shouldn't pile too much on top of whats already there, or add too many of those ferns and stuff.
As i've said already what you've done so far (from what I gather from the pictures posted) is beyond great. I was just speaking for the future of your work.
definitely. I'm trying, and if I had complete control over this project it would basically just be Morrowind out of the box. But prettier
I'm definitely not using any pieces that specifically give off a skyrim vibe, like anything from nordic ruins. also a lot of caves in skyrim have a weird rock wall texture that really doesnt look like it should be anywhere but a nordic burial tomb
Awesome job so far, keep up the good work.
Not related to this work, I'm going to be Mr Grumpy here. I'm really sick of people making comments, when they actually have no idea about what is involved in doing this project. Do you know how much effort it is to get them looking like Skyrim caves!?! Like in our dreams we can get them up to that standard! It will require thousand upon thousands of man hours. We are trying our best, but to caution us us to not make them look like Skyrim caves, like we are going to..what make nordic ruins and put snow and icicles in them?
This is just my little rant and warning to others that come along and state "don't make it like Skyrim". If we had followed this advice, there would have been zero landscaping planned for this project and trust me it looks like arse without some tender love and care put into landscaping it. As it turned out its doesn't look like Skyrim...well because we know our stuff.

I guess i should abandon my current project for this Bitter Coast cave then: ...
Why would the bitter coast have a frozen cave?
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Bitter_Coast
According to the wiki, the Bitter Coast is a humid swamp.
Sounds like a great idea for solthiems caves, adding nordic ruins to existing areas in solsthiem, and morrowind esque areas to solsthiem-dragonborn would be amazing. Great ice cave, use it for solsthiem instead though.
please tell me you are going along with the joke mehh
its icey because its teh bitter coast. GET IT? BITTER COLD AHAHHAHAHA
Yeah, I got the joke of course, I was going to make a note of that after mentioning the Bitter Coast, but didn't bother.
Culd yew add a coople marmouths to thur ice curv?

woe calm down there, I meant no offense. I know how long it would take to make it like skyrim and all that. And I didn't mean don't make it like skyrim. I meant don't make it too much like skyrim. Im all for the landscaping and if I didn't have 12 kb/s connection I would be helping with the task, but to download the creation kit itself would take me days, let alone even uploading the work. So no I don't know everything about the system, but it's not becouse I don't want to...
that must be the most stupid excuse i have ever heard, you have been a member here for months, if you downloaded it in the beginning you would now already been modding for months :P
and there is no such thing as a 12kb/s connection from centurylink :P they provide 768kb as lowest speed, so i would complain if i were you :P
thats the package I got (cuz where I live it is the ONLY package they offer because god forbid I get some highspeed. >.> ), but it never gets higher than 12kb/s. And i've never downloaded the skywind mod, or the creation kit. because that would be impossible. I only managed to download skyrim and the expansions by literally lending my laptop to a friend to download it for me at there house. and that took a considerable amount of pleeding on my part.
56k is 56kb/s so 12kb/s is 4.6 times slower than 56k, which was considered obsolete by 1997. Osama Bin Laden got faster internet in a cave dude... Starving people in Africa have pre-paid cell phones with faster internet.
What the honest ****
You couldnt search google images on 12kb/s, there is absolutely no way that is the fastest your internet gets.
*shrug* I usually do my surfing with my phone. cuz I do get some halfway decent 3g. thats how i participate in the thread actually. heh
I'd like to contribute. I was going to work on landscaping but that seems pretty well under way, so this seems like a good alternative. Do we have a list running of areas that are being worked on?

use this for now
