Issues: hollow lava and passive Dagoths.

Submitted by The Frederick on
Just a few issues encountered during the main quest. 1) Hollow lava in the caves under Kogoruhn; it's just a layer of lava texture with nothing underneath. It wouldn't normally be a big deal, except that it allows you to drop down into a small "under-cave" and then walk right off the map. 2) It seems that a some of the Dagoths in the game are passive towards the player, rather than aggressive.

I forgot to mention a much bigger issue; the game crashes whenever Dagoth Uthol, also in Kogoruhn, is killed. I suspect it might be an animation issue, since it always crashes at that specific point.

The Support Files contains Updated Ash Creatures.

I'm still having these problems with the new support files. I'm using support files that I downloaded on Wed 17th. Have there been updates since then?

Some things get stamped in the Savegame; some things are read anew from files; you can never tell which is which. I would recommend two things: 1. Delete all Ash Creatures folders from \meshes\creatures and then recopy from the download 2. Reload from a save Prior to entering the cell with the Ash Vampire. All the Ash Creatures are fully lootable, including the Ascended Sleepers. However, Ascended Sleepers don't fall down when they die; they just die in place standing up. A little weird, but certainly workable, and much better than substituting an Ash Zombie or cave rat. The passive Daedroths have nothing to do with Morrowind. They are just vanilla Oblivion Daedroth, so if you have something else conflicting with them then that could cause problems. As always, try reloading from a prior save. Don't jump into rivers of flowing lava, even if you can. A little suspension of disbelief is required...

Hmm, I might have to start the game over then. Also, it's a problem with passive Dagoths, not Daedroths. The Dagoths are ash creatures.

Not Start Over, just reload from a previous save before you entered the cell. It doesn't have to be before you ever entered the cell for the first time. Starting with v014 the Ash Vampires will be disabled until you get far enough into the main quest anyway, and will have new FormID's, so if you killed them before you will have to do so again. All the Ash Vampire Dagoths have an aggression of 100. Unless you have joined a faction that makes them friendly toward you, like undead maybe, they should attack you on sight. If you are referring to a different one you need to tell me which one because there are dozens of them...

The most recent Dagoth I've had the problem with is Dagoth Daynil in Kogoruhn, although back when there was a Dagoth placeholder in that shop in Balmora, that Dagoth didn't attack me either. It COULD be because my character has a "6th House Amulet", I'll try taking that off.

The Amulet does not have any affect on aggression, so you can leave it on. ALL the lesser Dagoth types have Very Low Aggression. This is the problem I have because I don't know Morrowind very well. I do not know which, if any are supposed to be passive, and which should attack. Should they ALL hate and attack you on sight? Doesn't the Sixth House, by custom, allow the Guest to make the first move? Could you maybe go into Morrowind for me and verify how they are supposed to react?

I might tomorrow. I'll also flip though the Morrowind wiki, it has pretty solid information on this kind of thing.

Dagoths are supposed to attack you on sight are they not?

I do not know one way or the other. The only things I DO know is that all the Dagoths have very low Aggression. I also remember reading dialog that it is Sixth House Custom to allow the Guest to make the first move. Somebody tell me if you know it for certain. In the Morrowind CS Dagoth Daynil is a creature with a 90% fight tendency, 0% hello tendency, so I would presume that means they should be aggressive...

I believed they were. Oh and hey there man, seen the progress you've made towards Morrobilvion and your dedication to the conversion fully in one clean file is simply admirable. I finish my end of year exams in 5 days and then I'll be happy to pour a huge proportion of my time into the project. Basically grew up playing Morrowind, the game that defined my childhood!

Thank you! I could sure use the help!

Ok, looking through the Morrowind wiki, it says that all "Ash Ghoul" Dagoths should be immediately aggressive, except for Dagoth Gares, who engages in conversation with you first, then attacks after the conversation ends. Also, I seem to have fixed the Ash Vampire problem by loading an older autosave. Thanks for the advice.

But thanks, anyway. I looked at their aggressiveness in the Morrowind CS. I have already fixed this for the next release, which I am very close to. I just need to do some more playing around with Yagrum. Eloth has ported him over and, hopefully, I can make an NPC out of it.

I didn't mean to sound grateful by saying "Already Figured that out." I thought there was an extra post in here where I talked about going into the Morrowind CS. However, I'm not going to help you be able to jump into rivers of lava... :)

The problem with the rivers of lava is that there's no "water" underneath. In Oblivion, lava acted like water except that it damaged you. But in Morroblivion, there's only the lava texture on top, and then nothing underneath. I don't mean to complain, but if a player slipped through and ends up trapped in the "undercaves", it could be pretty annoying. Especially if the player doesn't know how to TCL themselves out.

You're standing next to Molten Lava man, don't slip!

One last thing worth noting is the lack of Ash Ghoul Dagoths in Kogoruhn. I've looked through the CS and they made the conversion, they're just not in place. Kogoruhn is far too easy without them. :)

The lava is technically supposed to be hollow ... I believe that Oblivion's water\Lava is also technically hollow ... the engine just applies a blue\red shader to the view when you are under the covering sheet\surface. There really isn't anything more to the 3d mesh than a covering sheet. Ofcourse the thing is that you aren't supposed to be able to fall into the lava in morroblivion ... its supposed to be too shallow. I don't know ... maybe the collision is at fault.

It's Lava. You aren't supposed to be able to go swimming in lava. So don't. Problem solved.
