Crash after changing voice files

Submitted by Authchir on

Hi,

im new on this forum but have played morroblivion for quite a long time. Yesterday I installed v 0.60 (previous version was 0.57). I did not remove the old version before  installing the new one and instead just kept on playing because it worked. At some point I realised there were no voiced greetings, so I copied the voice  files from "Sound/Voice/Morroblivion Conversation.esp/" (old mod which i dont use anymore) to "Sound/Voice/Morrowind_ob.esm" hoping that would fix it. Instead, the game now crashes when loading my saves (and backup saves). I have no idea how to fix this, and would be very grateful for your help.

Bundled with the 0.6 file came a new updated Conversation esp file that makes it compatible with 0.6. Try using that one. Alternatively try renaming your Sound/Voice/Morrowind_ob.esm folder to something like Sound/Voice/Morrowind_ob-old.esm for the time being to keep playing.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, but i was already using the new file. It does not work with any of the two versions (even tried using both), and renaming the folder does not change anything - still crashes :-(

It should work with either. Do you have English version of Oblivion?

Your crashes are not related to voice files. Please, post your load order.

Oh, and follow the correct update procedure for v060.

Hi qwertyasdfgh,

You are right, I should have mentioned that I have the German version.

OK so i should delete everything with "morro" in it (leaving only Vvardenfell Imports) and then reinstall v 0.60? I just ask because that would be a huge step.

Load order is:

  1. Oblivion.esm
  2. Morrowind_ob.esm
  3. SI and KotN
  4. (Many Oblivion Mods)
  5. Morrowind_ob.esp
  6. Almalexia.esp
  7. Oblivionized Enchants.esp
  8. Morrowind_ob Conversation.esp
  9. Morrowind_ob UCWUS.esp
  10. Morrowind_ob Morroblivion Tree Replacer.esp
  11. Morrowind Chargen and Transport
  12. Morrowind_ob Morroblivion Maps.esp
  13. Morrowind_ob Eloth Trees.esp

Post all the mods you have not only the morroblivion ones.

The almalexia.esp to what mod is related?

p.s having a localized version should not cause any problem(except maybe the russian version for different alphabeth support). I have an italian version and never had a trouble.

The almalexia.esp is for the almalexia race used in morroblivion - at least i think so... I dont believe any of the Oblivion Mods can cause this since they are just quest mods, UL series and the German equivalents of Elis universal silent voice and UOPatch.

You should delete everything from previous Morroblivion versions. With Wrye Bash it can be done easily.

Morrowind_ob UCWUS.esp
Oblivionized Enchants.esp

Incompatible.

Folders with voicefiles for different races use localized race names.

So, for example, a folder with Argonian and Khajiit voicefiles is named "Argonian". If in the localized Oblivion.esm the race name is spelled differently (or is changed by any of the mods) the game won't be able to find the voicefiles to play.

The almalexia.esp is for the almalexia race used in morroblivion

If that's the esp which was included in Complete Installation ages ago, then it's redundant.

Yes but this can be easily be fixed by hand simply renaming folders and setting in the all the mod used the same race mod(for me I setted every race name to italian names(nord and breton were not changed in localization))

Sure, if you know about the issue in the first place :)

I knew about the localisation thing, always renamed the folders before starting the game.  :-( Deactivated Almalexia and Oblivionized Enchants... no change.

I tried something different though: Auto save, normal save and quick save wont load (currently in Tel Fyr), but a much older save (somewhere around balmora) runs fine. Is it possible the error is due to the location?

EDIT: Loaded much older save, went to Tel Fyr, saved and reloaded without problems. I checked the size of the corrupted save game and noticed it had nearly 10 MB. I heard that problems with savegames can also occur if they are too large. Is that the case?

10Mb is not large enough to cause trouble, but it is possible for saves to get corrupt for other reasons.

You can upload your save here, maybe someone will find the cause of the crashes.

Hm okay, so here's the savegame. Losing ~60 hrs of gameplay would not make me very happy, but  if I can be sure that the error does not happen again that would be enough.

Anyway, Thanks for your support so far! Lets hope anyone finds the cause.

windows Reported exception is an Memory acces violation 0xc0000005.

I reproduced the crash even  with only morrowind_ob.esm ansd esp activated

What version of obse you use???

P.S Your savegame is bloated. You must find from what mod your bloat come. This may be the cause(or a cause) of your problem altrought remove it doesn't fix the CTD, but this can go worse.

You should want to install kuertee_cleanup mod, to prevent some of the bloat.

Second Option Use TES4Edit, Start TES4Edit will Read your Load Order after Running OBMM,when all is Loaded ( Right Click ) Oblivion.esm  ( Apply Filter ) Do not Alter Filter Settings Normally Set to Default... Wait Till Filter is Finished Running..  Then Use Hold Down CTRL (Do not Let Go ) Highlight Every File Morrowind_ob.Esm Down to the End of all your Files... When all Are Highlighted ( Right Click ) use 'Check For Errors'  Will take a Little while to Run When Finished.. Go anywhere on Computer. and Create a Text Document Open Text Document, Then go Back to TES4Edit, on ( Right Hand ) Panel  'Right Click ' Select All,, 'Right Click' COPY,, Go to Your Text Document and Paste into your Text Document...File Save when Pasted,,, Go through Errors in TES4Edit,  looking for Errors that Directly Effect Morrowind_ob.esm. I used OMM to check for conflicts as you suggested, and deactivated mods so that morrowind_ob.esm is now free of conflicts. The save still won't load :-(
