Morrowind Main Quest Completed

Submitted by Dave B on
Updated 12/12/2010 I have finished debugging the Main Quest all the way through, including "Sleepers Awake." Meeting Caius Cosades In Morrowind if you are less than 4th level Caius will give you 2000 Drakes and tell you to go get some experience. However, you don't actually have to get it for him to give you the quest. To me that seems like a bug. That bug has been fixed in this version. When Caius tells you to get some experience he really means it! You must be 4th Level to start the Main Quest. Defeating Dagoth Ur The final confrontation with Dagoth Ur and the Heart of Lorkhan is very similar to, but still not perfectly following the way it was in Morrowind. There is still some work left to do and some items that need to be added. Specifically, the animation for the Akulakhan collapsing. I have had significant difficulty getting the Heart of Lorkhan to hold still. In Oblivion, with the converted Akulakhan mesh, the Heart of Lorkhan simply will not fit under the pipes that are supposed to be drawing it's power to the Akulakhan. It is therefore found in front of the pipes. I'm not a 3D Modeler; there is nothing I can do about that. The Heart of Lorkhan also recoils when hit, so it is possible to knock it around. I do move it back where it belongs every few seconds, but I absolutely cannot make it hold still; I'm not sure that is possible in Oblivion. However, shortcomings notwithstanding, the entire sequence is about as good as I can get it. I have added the encounter with Azura, and simulated her gift of the Ring. Sleepers Awake Oblivion is a little touchy about sleeping. Sleeping doesn't always trigger the script, so if you want to do this part of the quest, make sure you sleep for longer periods of time. Sometimes the game notices that you're sleeping after an hour, sometimes it takes three or four. I've found that most of the time sleeping for Four Hours triggers the quest, but not always. Committing Murder There are two Stages during the Main Quest where the player must kill one or more NPC's to fulfill Destiny. These NPC's belong to factions that, if killed by the player without provocation, will cause Oblivion to see this as "Murder," wich will of course cause Lucien Lachance to pay you a little visit... In both cases I have altered the dialog slightly so that it is possible to induce the NPC to attack you first, thereby bypassing Oblivion's definition of "Murder." Faction Relations The people of Morrowind really don't like each other very much. However, Oblivion deals with relations differently than Morrowind did, so early attempts at rebuilding this were unsatisfactory. On my first visit to Urshilaku Camp, Zabamund attacked me on sight and refused to accept my yield. Game Over. Danso Indules attacked me on sight, and so did the Archcannon and all his Priests, who were then attacked in turn by the Ordinators for assaulting poor innocent me. What a mess. I have had to tone down the hatred to make the game playable. Main Quest Stages: * Stranger in a Strange Land (Chargen) * Report to Caius Cosades * Antabolis Informant * Gra-Muzgob Informant * Vivec Informants (x 3) * Zainsubani Informant * Meet Sul-Matuul * Sixth House Base * Corprus Cure * Mehra Milo and the Lost Prophecies * Path of the Incarnate >>> Fourth Trial * Redoran Hortator * Hlaalu Hortator * Telvanni Hortator >>> Fifth Trial * Urshilaku Nerevarine * Ahemmusa Nerevarine * Zainab Nerevarine * Erabenimsun Nerevarine * Hortator and Nerevarine (Meet Vivec) * The Citadels of the Sixth House * Defeat Dagoth Ur * Sleepers Awake Download Link See the Main Project Release Thread at: http://morroblivion.com/forums/morroblivion/mods/753

Yep, it turns out the problem this time was the missing conversion files--redoing that fixed the boat. And as for the missing shirts and such, it looks like the conversion files fixed that up, too. It seems to be working now--I'm running around Seyda Neen and seeing how that goes before I head off to Balmora (only problem so far is that I somehow managed to get myself stuck in the wall of the lighthouse, but that was fixed easily enough). Thanks for all the help! I'll start playing around with stuff and once I get the guts and the levels to do so, I'll try out the main quest (though I've never done it before 'cuz I'm a chicken at I'm usually too jumpy to play much Morrowind outside the Thieves Guild and Camonna Tong). Is there anything I can do to help out with the project now that it's working for me? I don't know much about modding or even computer-related things, as my problems have already evidenced, but I'd be happy to do what I can. I'm amazed you've done as much as you have.

We can use any playtesting help you can give us. If you'd like to dungeon crawl your way from Sedya Neen to Balmora that would be great. But, watch out as Morrowind is NOT leveled like Oblivion. There may be things you have to run away from, like Bone Lords. After that, then yes, please try the Main Quest. Yoshimo is the only one that has given me feedback past the Vivec Informants. There is a custom race used, and he was never able to get the custom race to talk to him. It works fine for me. I have the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, which contains a custom race fix, but he does not. I would therefore recommend the Unofficial Oblivion Patch (which I do anyway, but especially for the race fix). I have not updated the thread or readme yet, but I will at some point to recommend this.

Neither the Thieves' Guild Nor Camonna Tong Quest work at this point, so you will definitely need to find something else to do. Reports have so far been that Morrowind is less powerful as part of Oblivion than when it was just Morrowind, so you may be fine. If not, remember that Oblivion has a Difficulty Slider :)

Haha, duly noted. I've already turned the difficulty down, just 'cuz I'm a pansy, but I'll head out on the the path to the main quest as soon as I level myself. Which I never did. 'Cuz I was trying to trick Oblivion's levelling. Anyway. I'll keep you posted once I get that far. Or if I find anything on the way there. Can I get the Unofficial Patch at Nexus or is there somewhere else I can find it?

You can get almost everything on Nexus. The Unofficial Oblivion Patch is sometimes referred to as "UOP." Shivering Isles will also be required for later stages as well, which apparently was stated before, and assumed by almost everybody, but I apparently removed the reference. Sorry.

Awesome, I'll go pick that up. Thanks! lol, No worries. I have Shivering Isles. I could have sworn I saw that floating around in these threads, but maybe it was just in the converter ReadMe during discussion of whether or not you need patches. Not sure.

I have finished the Hlaalu Hortator Quest and have done some groundwork for Telvanni Hortator. I will be releasing v012 this weekend which should include the complete Fourth Trial and probably the Urshilaku Nerevarine portion of the Fifth Trial. Depending on time, I may also start my quest to rid the world of "%PCName" appearing in Dialog. There are a lot of them, however; "%PCName" appears in 367 Dialog Topics. Plus, there are also similar "%PCRace," and probably "%PCClass" as well.

An easy way to get rid of '%PCName' is to export the dialogue to excel and use the search and replace function, then import it back to the CS. Replace with something like 'Outlander' and it should fit nicely with most situations.

Thank You! That had never occurred to me; I had been using the Search function of the CS. Excel will be much easier. I know that you had spent a lot of time on Morroblivion a long time ago, but got discouraged because of ever changing FormID's. Well, now that problem has been solved. I am hoping that you will start on it again!

Yeah, I might get back on it around Christmas, bit too busy at the moment. Since I spent a lot of time dealing with dialogue, quest stages and scripting for this, if you have any issues, just message me and I'll see if I can help.

Thank you. So far the only real issues I've had, other than having ALL Dialog jammed into one big quest, is missing dialog. As you probably know, when the converter came to dialog that was too long for Oblivion to handle, it just skipped over and didn't do anything. I'm getting the hang of the Morrowind CS to know what is supposed to do what, but since I am not an expert on Morrowind, I typically don't realize things are missing until they are pointed out to me, like the Daughters of Tel Fyr. Other than that, I have not happened upon anything that was very complicated, but I am Really hoping that you can get back into it because there are a LOT of Quests in Morrowind! I believe you were the one that counted 776 of them.

A new version has been released. I think I have said everything I need to in the Project Release Thread and/or in the readme. I really need some playtesters. I am starting to get very discouraged with the lack of input from ANYBODY except for Hyperion Witch.

I have just destroyed the Heart of Lorkhan and am the Hero and Protector of Morrowind. I still have the Sleeper's Quest to do, so I can't say I'm "Done" quite yet, but you have no idea how good this feels. I also have to add the creatures Eloth has just created, then, hopefully, make a final release this weekend.

were can i get the mod with all the additions since the converter? Sounds Awesome!

Is this included in the main morrowind ob file thing ? : D

That is why this Thread contains a link to the Main Project Release Thread :)

Ok in the main quest after talking to that guy in balamora idk what to do. Help me plz
Karma: 0 (0 votes)

You always need to be very specific, otherwise I just have to guess where you are and what you have done. By "that guy" I presume you mean Caius. My guess is that he told you to go get some experience. So, go get some experience. You need to be at least 4th level before he will give you a quest.

I've found a fairly major issue with the Redoran Hortator quest. I completed the Ashlander Nerevarine quests first, and now, everybody in the Redoran Council Building (except the Ordinators) attacks me on sight.

Yeah, Don't do the Nerevarine Quests first. Sul-Matuul warned you about that. The Wiki also warns about that. To move forward you're going to need to learn how to calm people with charm spells, etc. I have actually toned down the reactions of people a little. I personally feel that the reactions in Morrowind are a bit overboard, and in a personal mod I am going to tone them down even further, but if you take a look at the chart on the Wiki it details how much everybody in Morrowind hates everybody else. If you have any specific suggestions about reactions I will try, otherwise the people in Morrowind just plain don't like each other very much.

Hmm, maybe I always did the Hortator quests first, back when I played Morrowind. The other issue is that when the Redoran people attack me, the Ordinators attack THEM. I'm not sure how useful a calm spell will be, because I encountered something similar in vanilla Oblivion (guy attacked me, guards attacked him) and the calm spell didn't work; they calmed for a second, but then resumed fighting.

The guy that hits second always gets caught. Guards and Ordinators can't arrest you and generally don't seem particularly interested in doing so anyway. BUT, when an NPC breaks the law by trying to kill you in cold blood, then they DO step in. You have to charm people Before they attack you, and ideally, before they see you. I'll take a look, but no promises. The faction reactions are a tangled maze of who-hates-who. It would be easier if you can tell me exactly what factions your character belongs to.

The only faction I'm a part of is the Blades. The second time around, I didn't have the problem.

Good on no problems second time around because being attacked on sight would not make ANY sense if you are only a member of the Blades and nothing else. I have removed the reaction to the Blades since the whole point of creating a cover story for the character is to NOT attract attention. Yet, if everybody psychically knows that you are a member of a secret order, then what's the point of a cover story? I have NO idea why anybody was reacting to you like that the first time.

I may have had my weapon drawn (I have invisibility, so it can be hard to tell), but it's still an extreme reaction.

The Main Post of this Thread has been Updated 11/26/2010 I have updated this thread with notes on the Main Quest. Several bugs have been brought to my attention and addressed. v014, as far as I know, is a reasonably bug-free sequence that I have played through twice from start to finish. Not everything around it is as bug-free, but this is a good start...

Most of the native Morrowind Dunmer REALLY hate outlanders. But they dont attack them in Morrowind-game. In TES3 people dont attack you on sight even if their disposition is less than 10 (and its about 35-40 at the start of the game) unless scripted otherwise. The thing they do at 0-25 disp is a refusion to deal with you or answer any of your questions untill you persuade them that you are worthy. But in TES4:Oblivion low disposition means attack on sight. Morrowind handles hatred and NPC relations differently, so upon converting their AI settings should be adjusted towards "lawfulness" so even if people hate you they attack you only if you attack them (unles they are in generic enemies e.c. bandits). Also there should be a generic "piss-em-off" dialogue option as there was one in TES3. It served as plot instrument and worked only if you have enough (usually means more than opponent) Speechcraft - if it failed, ppl wont attack you but rather despise you and refuse to do buisness untill you restore your relation with them.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea where you are going with this discussion. I am fully aware that Morrowind behaved differently. The game is Oblivion, not Morrowind. I have an entire section devoted to Faction Relations on my Help Requested thread. So far, nobody has helped with this. If you think that something should be different, then send me a mod. Otherwise, what you see is what you get...

Re: the lame final battle, I'm pretty sure it was lame even in Morrowind. Dagoth Ur was just a regular fight, and using the tools on the Heart was just a regular interaction. Although you did get to see the giant robot collapse and you got an ending video... but that's it.

hey guys. i found this site and discovered everything that yall were doin lastnight. so i downloaded EVERYTHING that was recmmended and have everything in the right order in obmm. only the thing is, when i talk to the guide to morrowind on his boat, there isnt any dialogue. im not really sure what to do here. anyways i REALLY look foreward to helping you guys out. ive been waiting for something like this since oblivion first came out :)

i cant get to morrowind from cyrodil, but i can start out there. i created a class and chose my sign. immediately after, I go around the table, open the jewelry box and take the gold inside. and the guard tells me to pay a fine. so i do and he takes me to pelegiad castle before i can give my papers to the guy who tells me to go find cassius. dunno if you guys thinks this is a big deal, but the guard in the beginning always let you off the hook for stealing from that jewelry box.

You will find lots of little things like the guard letting you off the hook the first time in Morrowind. But, that assumes you are a new player and don't know any better :) Stuff like that takes time and somebody willing to do it. We could certainly use some help with details like that. For now, just realize that this is not Morrowind, it is an Oblivion mod.

wow im retarded lol. any advice on the no dialogue thing?

Currently the guards will not forgive you if its your first time in morrowind
Karma: 0 (0 votes)

anyways the quest dealing with fargoth might not be working properly either. i waited and waited and waited for him to stash the gold in his hiding place, but he just stayed in the same area. other than that i havent seen anything else worth mentioning. oh, except the map. just givin ya feedback :)

You should go and read about the current state of David's efforts, Currently ONLY the mainquest should really be working
Karma: 0 (0 votes)

There is no dialog. Clicking on the World Transport Guid brings up a menu with choices. There was never intended to be any dialog. I did it this way because I wanted to do a little more complex scripting that was easily doable with dialog, and I'm not really that experienced with dialog anyway--or at least I wasn't when I did this. My first question is are you using MorrowOblivion_World Transport.esp? Or are you trying to use Alternate Arrival or CNME? Neither of the latter two are recommended, but Alternate Arrival should probably still work.

So the only custom race fix is in UOP? I don't like UOP because it made Oblivion lag more in the game and uninstalling it gave the game better performance (because I have a weak computer), is it really necessary? Or is there an alternate fix out there?

The Unofficial Race Fix is not required, just recommended. There are three custom races iused for critical NPC's in Morrowind: Dagoth Gares, Vivec, and Dagoth Ur. There have been some that get the "I Have No Greeting" message when talking to these NPC's. The UOP maybe helps solve this, maybe not. I use it and have no proplem. You can wait until you meed Dagoth Gares and see what happens. If you have problems, try the UOP. You can even deactivate it again after speaking with each of these three.

When v15 comes out is the master file the only thing I download?

There are three custom races iused for critical NPC's in Morrowind: Dagoth Gares, Vivec, and Dagoth Ur.
Dagoth Gares is an Ash Ghoul, and they have been converted, so why is there a need for a dagoth gares race? And all ash creatures are humanoids, so they can have dialogue.

Dagoth Gares uses the Ash Ghoul from the original Ash Creatures, not your conversion, Eloth. Dagoth Gares was done by the Queen of the Ashlands long before your updated creatures. I do not understand what you mean by being a humanoid = can have dialog. There is no distinction I am aware of between humanoid creature and non-humanoid creature. As far as Oblivion is concerned, a creature is a creature. If I am wrong, please explain. Didact, there will be an updated Support Files 2 that will go along with v015. Eloth has provided more goodies. He has sent me the missing mummies for Urshilaku Burial caves. At this point I think he's working faster than I am, so there may be more before I am ready for v015.

humanoids are creatures yes, but they are the only creatures that can have dialogue in oblivion, dont ask me why and how, its just the way it is
Karma: 0 (0 votes)

The Main Post of this Thread has been Updated 12/12/2010 I have significantly spruced up the final encounter with Dagoth Ur, the Heart of Lorkhan, and Azura. There is still some room, and I will come back to this when more pieces are added, like the Akulakhan and Dagoth Ur's audio commentary.
