Dramatic Mountains - Skyrim Mod

Submitted by grumpycat on

A shameless plug for a mod that I've done over on Nexus, called "Dramatic Mountains".

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/44199/?

If I could name the mod technically it would be called "Multi-layered (parallax) for Icy Rocks, Icy Snow and Higher Definition for Mountains up close (with low resolution decal shading) for a very stylized look and effects".

Skyrim Mountains were designed to look amazing at distances. But if you have explored mountains and noticed that when you get up close to them that the textures become very blocky and breaks immersion for you, then this mod endeavors to make this a bit more enjoyable when you are actually amongst the Mountain ranges. Even with HD textures you will get a relatively lower resolution simply because Mountain pieces are so large.

Please download and endorse ( I don't care if you don't like it...kidding :-P )

For LOD you can just manually modify objects LOD texture atlas so they match up the actual appearance of new mountains.

Doing it the "right" way by creating new LOD meshes and textures for mountains and regenerating objects LOD in CK won't provide any benefits at all.

My "problem" is that i have 13 new lod textures. The changes are that dramatic (yeah i had throw that one in). The upper Mountains are totally snow covered and so using the usual lower mountain LOD textures doesn't work.

It just means that if I rebuild the atlas that something else gets pushed off, but as long as my Mountains are in. I think Skyrim has 7 slots empty so this helps.

I also discovered the pitfalls of 0-1 range UVs and just how awful Mountains are at distance. I tried to "trick" the engine in several ways, but it wasn't having a bar of it :-p
