Dragomir's Skywind Soundtrack

Alright, this music stuff I do... I think it's getting somewhere. Whether my stuff will be included - time will show, maybe someone else will take over.

So far I made two tracks:

The Red Mountain

Grazelands Medley (not really finished yet)

My concept is to make orchestral music that will resemble Jeremy Soule's compositions (at least as much as I can make it), but with additions of some tribal/ethnic instruments like duduq, flute, or my trusty drum. Most Probably for tracks that will illustrate more magical places (Sadrith Mora, etc.) I'll use some synth too. I think Skywind would benefit greatly from having it's own soundtrack, and I'm up to help it get one ;)

I'm really digging this so far. Red Mountain sounds great, as does the Grazelands. I think with the Grazelands it had an acoustic guitar sound that reminded me more or Diablo than Elder Scrolls haha, but it was still really cool. Maybe you can try to include some of the same themes/rhythms that Mr. Soule uses. Keep up the good work, I look forward to hearing more!

Great job! Listening to Red Mountain gave me goosebumps. I like the first part of the Grazelands Medley -- it definitely gives the vibe that Morrowind is an exotic land (and definitely not the typical fantasy setting). The tribal instruments are an excellent touch. They'll go very well with the Ashlander territories.

If it's cool I'd love to chip in some ideas, maybe we could post them here. I also would totally understand if you wanted to keep it to yourself, too many cooks and all that jazz. Yeah of course Samiad. We can in theory accommodate an infinite number of scores. Well as many as would be practical to bundle up into a package, but you get the idea. Its talent not allocation what is needed.

It really only depends if

It really only depends if what you cook up will fit in with my scores and Morrowind's athmosphere ;) If we get ideas too different that can't go together it will be up to the project leaders which ones should we pick I guess. I'm all positive for some teamwork though, as Skywind's soundtrack has to be massive and I neither have means nor time to make everything myself, at least not too fast. If you have some ideas or some recordings go ahead and post them here, I'll see if I can use them ;)

I called this thread my soundtrack in case there is another Skywind soundtrack thread, but I won't mind making it THE musical thread everyone could post their stuff in ;) I'd be very glad to get more ideas and discuss them through, one can never get enough feedback. I'd also love to incorporate some of Lutenist's lute compositions in the tracks somehow.

Now, about the style and idea I want to go for - I described it briefly in the first post.

There is so much scope for variation that coordinating scores I don't think is going to be necessary.

There are so many regions, different interiors, encounters. that absolutely nothing will be turned away. I mean if it sounds like a heavy metal track, sure might have to think twice about it, but I completely trust that anything produced will have some undertone of feeling like Morrowind.

OK great. I totally agree with the idea of staying faithful to the feel of Jeremy Soules scores too. I was going to focus more on this aspect, the simple classical sounding stuff. Anything I post will be very rough though as I'm using an old Technics electric piano, and some of the effects sound more FFVII than Morrowind lol.

Hopefully over time there will be a large collection of music and then the scope can be narrowed so that there will be a focused score that's not all over the place stylistically.

Also do you already have idea's about what certain regions will sound like musically?

Aaarrrgghhh! No matter how

Aaarrrgghhh! No matter how many times I mix this track, when I play it back on my computer the low end of the synth has this horrible rattling sound that I can't get rid of. So for best results, listen quietly. It's only a small ambient piece so you don't really need to crank it up anyway.

Do you really think that someone can do better than Jeremy Soule? Why all this? We already have a great original soundtrack, replace it completely insane idea, because you destroy the spirit of Morrowind.

Serggx, having custom songs

Serggx, having custom songs is something we like. Jeremy Soule's tracks are great but we can have more tracks than just the original ones.

Y'all, keep them coming.

SerggX, with Skyrim's music system we can have much more variety in the music than we had in Morrowind. Music Soule made was great, but we need an update. Eight tracks playing over and over and over again are not a good idea, and we already established that. Maybe we'll make a "Morrowind Soundtrack only" option, but we want to have more variety, and I'm sure people involved are going to do their best to fit the spirit of Morrowind. Soule is a great composer, but he didn't make any tracks that would fit for example the dangerous region of the Red Mountain. I'm really doing my best to capture the spirit and athmosphere of Morrowind which I happen to know very well, as I studied and analyzed it for years.

Another thing is that WE ARE NOT GOING TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK!!! We want it in, all of it. We are going to ADD to it, tracks for places and occasions that are currently missing. We know we won't do better than Jeremy Soule, but then we don't have him anywhere around to command...

Samiad - I have some buisness to discuss with you, but I think I can do that via PM. I love the ambience in your tracks :D They could use some more special effects though, weird, ear candy sounds.

Eight tracks playing over and over and over again are not a good idea

There is a very simple solution to this problem, use the music from Skyrim 53 track and Oblivion 26 track too, that's all!

Even if there is a great composer (it's doubtful) he will not be able to record music the normal quality, because it will not have a symphony orchestra. He will use a computer sequencer and VSTi.

Wow this guy really doesn't

Wow this guy really doesn't want anyone to make music. Don't worry SerggX, I'm sure there'll be a way to turn it off. I absolutely love Jeremy Soules score, but it does get boring after awhile. It's the same 45 minutes of music in a game that a lot of us spend hundreds of hours playing.

Seeing as we're being blunt here, I would suggest that if you want to use the music from the other TES games, then do it. We want some new music and unless you can get Jeremy Soule to do it for us we're going to have to do it ourselves.

I really like the idea of the

I really like the idea of the music having some tribal and eastern undertones, especially for the ashland regions. I know there were some pieces in the Bards' thread by Lutenis that really captured the somber, mystical feeling of Morrowind. I don't know if we could get him on board to assist in some ambient tracks - that guy had some serious talent.

There are some music mods for Skyrim as well. There was one in particular that was only available on steam that I downloaded not too long ago and it has some very decent music with almost gypsy-sounding vocal track for some of the dungeons.
