The Dwemer and You - Dwemeri Interior and Clutter Concept Art

First I'd like to say that I'm not a professional concept artist, nor do I have much experience in being one. However, I would like to learn new things ABOUT this line of work and what I have and can do is inspired and will hopefully work in inspiring the designs that will become the new Dwemeri Interiors.

I sent Ravanna my first piece and was told to continue work on the interiors and clutter so that is exactly what I'll be doing, and this thread will serve as the hub for my pieces as well as discussion on the subject of dwemer design as well as my pieces (suggestions, ideas, etc.)

So without further adieu, I shall post these as image-then-description format~

Walls and Pipes and Wallpipes:

First off, you might notice that they aren't drastically different from the originals. Well, that's true, and that's how I believe it should be. The Skyrim Quality standard is honestly really in the textures (which I will be updating the above image with in the very near future).

My thoughts are that the pipes should look very similar to the ones found in skyrim while everything else is wholly unique to the Vvardenfell region, so that we can establish a connection between the race that are in two different environments.

Figured the heat showing through on the bottom and the top trim would give certain ruins more of a since of being alive, which can honestly make it a little bit creepier considering there's ever only bandits that are truly ALIVE within these hallways. The red parts could also be turned black to show a more dead looking ruin. DIVERSITY IS THE KEY, FOLKS!

Lava Grates:

I thought it would be cool to change the grating to reflect something along the lines of what you
see when looking at an average vent, or venetian blinds when closed. You CAN see through them,
but only at a certain angle. An important aspect of level design is to have visual queues to show the player where to go, and the vent effect can do just that by having it where if the player can see the lava below through the vent - he's going to treasure. And if he can't - he's going in the wrong way, or at least towards an exit so that he can't get lost.

Forge Thingy:

Not... Entirely... Sure what these things are. They look like forges from skyrim to me.
Maybe an engineer could shed some light... Anyways, if you notice, the main color is the same as the stone (or is it rough metal?) from the walls up above. If it IS stone, then it would show that A. They carved it elsewhere and put it there later OR my personal idea B. that when they were mining out their hallways and such that they strategically carved these out of the stone later and built their metal floors and ceilings around them. Just a thought though.

those "forges" are water

those "forges" are water pumps for turning water into steam when passed over lava.
literally steampunk.
As well as normal fountains I will add them undergound.

Think of more steam technology built into the walls.

I KNEW they were steam

I KNEW they were steam related somehow :I

And I was thinking about doing some inspiration hunting with steampunk images, but it seems all I can find is "HURRRR, LOOK, I GLUED A COG TO MY HAT, I'M SO STEMPANK" and nothing that actually looks very interesting.

Though maybe it would be a good idea to add in bits and pieces like that everywhere along the pipes, like latchers, levers, wheels and cogs that maybe go into the ground right next to the wall.

Technology, even at it's most primitive 1880 form, makes my thinkerbox hurt :( Nontheless, I shall work on it later today or tomorrow (yaaaaay... thanksgiiiiiving... sigh)

Very small update.

Very small update. Texturefied walls and pipes, for visual purposes. Just adding in simple textures makes everything look a good bit brighter, since I can't ever seem to be able to do those kinds of effects with the crappy free editing programs I have to use.

Speaking of which, anyone who knows, are the walls in the background rock or metal? In Morrowind I had always thought they were metal, but in Morroblivion/Skywind they seem more stone like to me. Either once makes sense, but still.

In the event of them being stone, like, carved from a cave or something, I feel like their should be like, a handful of tilesets with different colored rock to reflect the region in which they stand... Might just be wishful thinking on my end though. Maybe for a mod after release? :P

It seems to be carved-stone

It seems to be carved-stone that is painted a reddish-brown color to match the Dwemer metal. Some of it seems to have vertical and horizontal lines carved into it, maybe some lines of Dwemer text would look cool in some places,

or some kind of mural design, like this

Also, that looks really good!

A mural design would be too

A mural design would be too extravagant for the bottom piece. HOWEVER, maybe having a normal wall variant that has carvings like that every now and then would be super cool. Kinda like Alduin's Wall, but Dwemer instead.

Words would be cool as well, but I think that will go on the piping... Not sure. Can't remember if the words go along the normal piping that follows the wall or if they were just on the bridge railing. Time to check~
