Skywind FAQ

Submitted by digitalparanoid on

This post is intended to be used as reference for all questions you might have for Skywind and their answers. It will be updated as frequently as possible. Please use this thread to post your questions or suggest additions. Please refer newcomers to this post.

Skywind Project

What is Skywind? Skywind intend to recreate The Elder Scrols III: Morrowind using the Skyrim engine, Skyrim game mechanics. The scope includes all the quests, NPCs, locations, creatures from the original game.

Will you convert the Morrowind DLCs? Yes, but for now the focus is on the main game.

Who can join the project team?

Everyone! We accept everyone, even with no experience.

If you don't want to participate in the development itself, we can always use voice modelers, texturers, voice actors, videomakers, etc...

Who should I talk to? Here's a list of contributors.

Is it possible to donate to the team?

We are not accepting money donation. Feel free to donate your time and energy!

Will my Skywind game get broken?

It is not supposed to happen, Skywind is using its own worldspaces and its own items. If something bleeds over Skyrim, please let us know as it must be a bug.

Be safe and backup your savegames, install, etc... before installing Skywind.

I have found a bug! Well, young adventurer, you tried a very alpha version, so it was going to happen!

What helps us is to post in the forums/chat or the bug tracker (in left side menu) about your issues. Also take some time to search the forums/this FAQ for your issue. It may have already been detected/solved.

You may also use an incompatible mod. Try reducing your mod list.

Skywind Installation

Requirements

Technical requirements are slightly above those for Skyrim.

To install Skywind, you need to own (and have installed) The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. DLC Dragonborn is not mandatory but if not present and activated some models will be invisible (eg. Silt Striders), so it's strongly suggested (and it must be activated).

Skse is needed as well.

When I load my game, my PC is falling for ever.

You haven't installed correctly. Make sure the meshes and textures folder is under your data folder.

Compatibility issuesSkywind is not compatible with:

- alternative start mods

- ...

To avoid compatibility issues, try to have the lightest mod list possible until we know better what is compatible or what is not.

The compatibility of a mod with Skywind depends on the way the mod is implemented, therefore its on a case by case basis.

If you find compatible or incompatible mods, let us know.

Are there optional mods/packages?

Sure thing! here.

Skywind In-Game

How do I start the game?

In the main menu, hit "New Game". A dialogue should ask you where you want to start. Choose Morrowind.

I cannot click Morrowind to start a new game!

Make sure "Skywind - patch.esp" is added at the very end of your loading list.

Can I use my Skyrim character?

Yes, you can. However, we don't suggest it for balancing reason.

The only way to travel between Skyrim and Vvardenfell for now is the Skywind Travel MapMarkers mod, found here. This will not start the main quest until we release a patch.

Be safe and backup your savegames, install, etc... before installing Skywind.

All the NPCs are naked! Yes this is normal, we haven't implemented the clothes yet.

last reviewed: 0.0.9.0.1

I am told that I'm naked but I'm wearing clothes/armor!

It certainly means you have reached Vvardenfell using console command and not starting a new game. This will be fixed in a future release.

I picked up an armor/weapon and it doesn't look like it/it's invisible

It's normal, we are still using some placeholders (like Skyrim iron armor) until our modelers are done with all the armors.

last reviewed: 0.9.0.1

The game is very easy! We actually intend the game to be difficult but we haven't started balancing everything. For now, you should turn the difficulty in your settings if you want a greater challenge.

I'm facing a monster but it's actually a rat/skeleton!

It's normal, we are still using a lot of placeholders until our modelers are done with all the monsters.

Monsters are not dropping the loot they're supposed to.

Yes, we are working on that.

last reviewed: 0.9.0.1

I cannot do quest A, B, C

Yes, all quests are not implemented yet.

For now (0.9.0.1) you can play/test the main quest, the house hlaalu quests, the mages guild quests, the Tribunal temple quests, a couple daedric quests, 4 side quests in Vivec, 4 quests in Seyda Neen and some wilderness quests.

The NPC have a lot of dialogue choices and I can't find what I'm supposed to ask them.

By default, Morrowind offers a lot more dialogue than Skyrim. We are working to improve the dialogues in every version.

last reviewed: 0.9.0.1

I don't have any dialogue! Turn on the subtitles.

Also, it would be good for you to download Fuz Roh do to avoid flashing dialogues.

The NPCs have no voice!

Morrowind was not voiced. We are working with voice actors to implement the voices (see here) but it is still a work in progress.

I don't want to see the quest markers.

Use Skywind Configurator and disable that option.

last reviewed: 0.9.0.1

I don't want to fast travel. Well, no one forces you but you can disable fast travel in the Skywind Configurator.

The door is locked ! NPCs may follow a schedule and at some point they may lock their doors (eg Shops are closed at night). However, there might still be some doors locked incorrectly. Please reach out to us in case that's a bug.

Bandits/Creatures kill each others By default very aggressive creatures/NPC will attack each others on sight. Most of the time, it's a bug (or rather something we still need to work on).

last reviewed: 0.9.0.1

NPC will not propose to me the dialogue option I need. Are you sure you have done everything he asked you to do? Did he talk about trusting/liking you?

In Morrowind, the behavior of the NPC is based on the relationship (disposition) they have with you. Make sure they like you enough (by your deeds, by bribing..)

To know the NPC disposition, you can use Skywind Configurator and use a shortkey to display the closest NPC's disposition toward you.

last reviewed: 0.9.0.1

The fire sound (torches etc...) is very loud. Yes. We will fix it.

last reviewed: 0.9.0.1

My follower/This NPC doesn't follow me. There a still some places not navmeshed and this will prevent your follower to stay close to you from time to time. Use console command to workaround. When this project is complete, everything will be navmeshed.

Quests (contains spoilers)

Main Quest
  • Caius Cosades doesn't give me my first quest

You need to be at least level 4. That's why he tells you to have some adventures for now.

Also, make sure you started the game in Morrowind.

Blades Trainers
  • Some trainers won't talk to me, so I can't complete the quest

They will only give you blades training for free if you are level 5 or less.

Hlaalu: Disguised Armor

There are two known bugs in 0.9.0.1

  • If you're Argonian or Khajitt, you should not been given that quest. Use this esp before starting the hlaalu questline. (it will be merged in next version)
  • If you're male, you will not be able to get the orders from Neminda unless you use this esp

Both will be fixed in the next release.
