[WIP] Dremora Lord Armor

Evening Folks,

Started working on the Dremora Lord armor today, still in the concept phase. Wanted to introduce myself to the team as well. My name is Ryan, aka Ribtibs, and I am a graduate level 3D modeler in San Francisco. I look forward to working with everyone moving forward.

Anyway, this is still REALLLLLLY rough, but I concepted out the armor for the Dremora lord and would love some feedback before I start crafting individual plates of armor.

great start and the quality

great start and the quality is very high.

I think the only crit from some devs is to try move the dremora face away from skyrim's dremora and add elements/feel of the morrowind one, perhaps a few more horns in the face.

Did we discuss helmets? I think that can be a later addition, as there are over 4 different daedric helm designs.

could you push the design on the boots, more spikes? :)

Excited to see this made.

I do always love to see the

I do always love to see the words "more spikes" :D. I hit kinda a middle ground between the two games, but I can certainly go more morrowind face style.

Thanks

Love it so far! I feel guilty

Love it so far! I feel guilty saying this since I like what you made, but would it be possible to have the pauldrons resemble something closer to Morrowind's Daedric armor as well? It gave a lot of personality to that set, so if we could have them in that iteration as well I believe it would bring your model a lot more in line with what people had in mind for the overall shape of the armor. Otherwise this is a great contribution! Can't wait to see more :D

I think it looks great, but

I think it looks great, but always take in peoples feedback I guess. Welcome to the team! Our prayers to the Divines for more 3D modelers has been answered!

Hi! I really like what you

Hi! I really like what you did and definately envy you your talent. I have a few "buts" concept-wise though.

In my opinion Boots, Braces and Pauldrons lack Morrowind style and we definately want to be closer to the morrowind then skyrim style. I particulary don't like pauldrons as they are pretty skyrimish and i don't like deadric  skyrim. Also i agree on adding more spikes :) Basicly anything that will bring the model closer to the Morrowind style.

It is VERY important model, as the daedric armor will probably be made on the base of this one. And you know how it is - when you make armor, you should do weapons as well :) But again - great work and I'm glad we have someone knowing what's what when it comes to 3d.

Cheers!

By the way, here's a design I

By the way, here's a design I made quite a while ago, maybe it will give you some Morrowind'esque inspiration ;)

The Dremora make their armour not by smithing, but actually transforming their skin to be like armour (and then, later on, perhaps separating it from the body). That is why the design is so organic and mimics muscles ;)

Makes sense, but where is that actually stated?

Also, @ the OP, holy cow that thing looks sweet!

Dremora Lords deserve larger pauldrons... It's a matter of status.

Good to hear it Ravanna! The surface detail will all come in when I go through a refinement pass once everything is blocked in. Having some trouble with the design of the legs and arms, gotta figure that out first :D

Still working on this one. I

Still working on this one. I have been out of commission due to illness for the last few days, but im finally able to really start work on this again. Still figuring out the design for the boots, probably going to just retop and texture the top half and come back to the boots when I have better design ideas.

Yea, I know the quality

Yea, I know the quality matches what you guys want, my concern is that the concept was never nailed down as a team. I pushed the proportions too far and stylized it too much. It is up to the team if they want to use this, but I am not above starting over if need be from a unified vision. I haven't recieved much direction so far, so I think I will wait for a go ahead before I retop and texture things

This is high quality work,

This is high quality work, but I personally feel that the horns motif is a little overdone here. Your original pauldron design was superior. Daedric Armor should be less symmetrical, more savage. Less like armor forged, more like armor conjured up in a nightmare. Just my feeling on the matter, really.

Also, I think the groin cloth looked better in your original draft.

I disagree that daedric armor
I disagree that daedric armor should be chaotic. Dremora have a society that is very rigid and structured, and I think their armor should reflect that. That said, I do agree that the horn motif is a tad overdone.

astonishing work. i love the

astonishing work. i love the enormous level of detail. i think this would be awesome to have as a unique armor for lord dregas volar and if you have the daedric crescent, 100 smithing and finished the daedric smithing questline dragomir suggested you could also create and wear this amazing and slightly over the top piece of armour. just an idea

i dont think the horns are overdone. why not give this armor a daedra boss npc as an ornate armor?

I just meant the horns are
I just meant the horns are overdone. Replace some of them with spikes or flames or something is to break upall the ram horns. Just my opinion, though.

Fun fact: The original

Fun fact: The original Daedric helmets in Morrowind were meant to represent different deities, and were intended to have some arcane laws regarding their use.

Ah, nice to have the lore-master general back!  I find it odd that these would be made in the image of non-daedra, though.  I thought mortals being able to reproduce daedric armor was just lazy and gratuitous on the part of Skyrim?

I may be mis-remembering, and honestly it's so late right now that I don't care, but I believe there was a lore book in Morrowind that detailed the process of creating daedric armor- It is created by mortals and it's not at all pleasant for the daedra involved... I'll try to look it up tomorrow. If I remember.
