Some graphics all look like Morrowind, no Oblivion replacements?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
So I installed a clean Morrowind and Oblivion/Shiv Isles and followed the readme and installed everything in the appropriate order. Everything works, it's just that the trees and textures look exactly the same as Morrowind (right off the boat in Seyda Neen)... not anything like the screenshots on the site. In short... it still looks ugly. Is this normal? I did the "Complete Installation Parts 1 & 2" + Support Files (2) method. Sidenote: how come the mod couldn't use the voices from Morrowind for some of the intro dialogue? License issues?

All this is is a conversion from morrowind to oblivion, there might be a texture pack coming out soon, but until then your stuck with default morrowind textures and meshes. The pictures on the site show how it looks in-game you should probably take another look because pictures on this site have the default morrowind textures and meshes unless they say otherwise. You should probably follow this which should be released in the near future.http://morroblivion.com/forums/morroblivion/mods/893

I understand that, but the problem I am seeing is that there is no grass as in the pictures and no Oblivion trees as in the pictures, which makes me think there's more missing things. Also the ground dirt is the same texture as Morrowind, which I guess is OK but I recall it being better in Oblivion. Also, I used this mod way back when maybe a year ago and while it didn't work quite right, it did look much better than it does on my PC right now, that's why I am confused.

Dirt and trees are not replaced by Oblivion equivalents grass, however should be showing, strange. I don't know the problem with the grass put a link to the images you are talking about, so I can get a better idea of what is wrong. Some pictures are from the old omod version of Morroblivion which replaced trees and mushrooms with Oblivion and SI equivelants the OMOD was very unstable, didn't work properly, crashed often, had missing meshes, and didn't include any creatures, Vvardenfell Imports armor, or quests, but be my guest if you'd rather use the omod than the Morrowind_ob.esm project. The link to the omod can be found on the morroblivion mods section of the site.

Most of the beautiful screenshots on this site are from Eloth's WIP. It is not available yet. Currently Morroblivion -IS- Morrowind. Players definitely need to focus on what is right, what is working, and what is currently available, not on what is wrong, what is missing, and what doesn't work. Otherwise, just go play Morrowind...

Ah, OK, that makes more sense now... I had been using the OMOD before, so I assumed the latest project enhanced it even more, but I guess not. I guess I will just have to wait for the overhaul to be complete :) For now, I followed the Morrowind Graphics Project 2011 guide to get my build looking pretty good.

This isn't entirely true, if you run the original converter for yourself and use an convoluted concoction of original files and files from the morrowind_ob.esm Project from this site you can get a pretty amazing looking game while still having a mostly playable experience, it took me the good part of a day but I started with the instructions and files from this site but then replaced the morrowind esm with my own that I got from the original conversion app and used some heavily modified textures from tesnexus.com and I've got a great looking game with Oblivion trees and Shivering isles mushrooms but I still have the relative playability that comes with the unmodified esm. Certain things are out of place, I've got the occasional path blocked by a pile of rocks and while most people are clothed, one or two don't have shirts or pants on for some reason. Like I said I spent the good part of my day getting it to work well, and I will gladly take my one or two glitches over the fugly morrowind graphics; that being said, I wouldn't suggest anyone that doesn't like getting their hands dirty do this, I have a pretty decent understanding of the file structure and what can and can't be replaced and I still have a lot of cleanup to do because right now much of the environment is haphazardly placed but that's all part of the fun.
