morrowind crashes at data files

ok so i DL'd skwind installer and the assets pack. after a few tries at getting the assets it finally downloaded a useable .rar archive that i proceeded to copy to my morrowind data folder (in steam). so then i ran the skywind installer and it came up with an error that said it couldn't find the skywind assets, which i ignored and ran it anyway. it said it installed it and its all good. but its not. everytime i open the launcher for morrowind i click data files to check skywind and it crashes. i get an error saying windows is checking for a solution or some shit. i think ive made a clear explanation for whats happening, somebody please help me as i am going to smash my computer to bits soon...
