Will there be Steam integration?

Submitted by riskybiz13 on

Just curious if you guys plan to have this Mod on Steam? It seems it'd help with more exposure (which you guys obviously deserve, this project looks incredible)-- as well as ease of installation (if this is possible, I could be talking out of my ass here).

Mods like DayZ and the Just Cause Multiplayer mod are on Steam, so installation is as simple as double clicking it provided you have the base games needed.

Keep up the good work, this is one of my most anticipated titles!!

If I recall, Steam has a file limit for mods, so probably not.

only way i see that happening is if bethesda aproves this mod so it totaly legal wat on this moment it probely isnt and it gets there help to become a real steam mod but if the aprove skywind the cant ignore skyblivion and morroblivion

so its no its not gone be on steam

but it would be cool to see that happen i would probely need to buy the steam version of morrowind to play it and because most would have to do that the could make money from it and this site would get more attention than it can handel it think because of it it would be crazy

There are file limits to mods such as "high resolution texture packs" in the traditional sense of the word "mod," but like I said Day Z is on Steam and that's a standalone game for all intensive purposes (much like Skywind is), so I doubt there would be a file limit restriction in this regard.

It won't show up in Steam Workshop due to file size limitations.

It also won't be on Steam Workshop or a standalone due to legal issues. This would be considered a Derivative Work. It's not protected by Fair Use, and Bethesda has the legal right to shut the project down (because we are taking assets from other games, specifically). Fortunately Bethesda has a reputation for supporting the modding community at large...but it's kind of a legal quagmire. That's also why Nexus doesn't want to touch Skywind with a 10 foot pole. ;)

That's a damn shame. Has your team tried to reach out to Bethesda about this? Considering (from the FAQ) I've gathered that you need essentially the Morrowind Ultimate edition to run Skywind-- so, it seems that all this project will do is significantly boost the sales of a dated game, not to mention re-ignite interest in Skyrim itself.

I can't speak to that. Down the road someone may to try get endorsement from Bethesda in an official capacity but considering this is still technically in alpha and needs quite a bit of polishing, that may be some time! :)

You are the 954,352,905th person to say this. For all intents and purposes, it's moot.

No plan for steam. The team leaders will talk to Bethesda if the need arise.

I believe it would be legal once all of the assets are ours but yeah I don't know about the file restrictions.
