I like the idea of having power seeping through the cracks of the heart. Anything that gave the Tribunal and Dagoth Ur so much power should really feel like it is teeming with unnatural and volatile energy.

The heart also looked somewhat crystalline in Morrowind, are you planning on giving it sort of a ruby, reflective finish? It seems like it would be a little underwhelming for the heart to be just a fossil. There's also the Heartstones from Dragonborn - although they were technically pieces from Red Mountain it seems like they could be linked to Lorkhan as well.

yeah we can add an emissive red through the cracks, and make the cracks resemble sharp vein patterns.

SHushine, can u use a brush called "trimdynamicborder" with a square alpha and Z set to 60.

It will create an alien-sharp rock like texture across it.

then use trimdynamic after to soften the edges

The more angular rock formation makes it a lot more convincing already. Also is it just me or the heart is very round? I understand this wouldn't be anatomically correct for a human body in any way, but maybe making it a little longer and giving it a more human shape would go a long way to identify it as a heart.

Suggestion for the cracks.

As it is now, the cracks on the heart are random, as they would be on a stone/crystal structure. Look at this image; http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/human-heart-14951333.jpg. See how the veins pattern on the heart. Since you've respected a regular heart's anatomy in shape and with the main crack separating the two ventricles, it would give your piece a little more artistic consistency.

Okay, as the heart come closer to completion in zbrush I would like to discuss the size of the heart. Originally the heart in my opinion looked pretty wimpy in terms of size.  EX:[External image]

I have discussed this with Ravanna before but we plan on increasing the size of the heart so its a little more impressive...Thoughts?

Rough example of the size:

Hi Shu

Allow me to throw my two cents in. As far as texturing goes, try looking at some reference for the rock.( I'm also aware that its not fully finished. )

This little article is interesting: http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/TexturingGuidelines.html

Most rocks/stone are never pure black. Try looking up Igneous rocks to get an idea of what i mean.

http://geology.about.com/od/rocks/ig/igrockindex/rocpicbasalt.htm

Texturally the rock is quite light and it has a lot of color variation - this is due to the nature of the composite its made up of. Also see how there is a dust that settles in the hollows and grooves? This can be achieved by using a AO map - in photoshop you can gradient map it to have a lighter brown color instead black.

It also might sound strange, but try splatting some blues, reds and greens around on a new layer, really bright primary colors and really grungy, and then bring the opacity to 5-8% (super low). This will add some random color variation.

Just try get into the habit of using reference heaps! Theres always small details i miss when i try to texture from memory :)

Keep up the good work :)

Having the heart be bigger I think would be nice - if Akulakhan is scaled up with it.  As for the heart, the shape looks awesome.  Have you thought about going with something more 'crystalline', though?  Like an anotomically-correct garnet or ruby heart, refracting light so that it seems to glimmer and glow?  Maybe with igneous appearance where the 'fat' would be along the top of an actual heart?

Increasing the size is a good idea. It was etty wimpy before, but that might be a little TOO big. I was thinking something waste high. I would think that would be impressive enough. Make it too big and some may miss that its a heart and not just a giant black and red boulder.

The heart was supposed to go in akhulakhan so it still needs to fit in him

I personally like the bigger scaled heart. Considering that it is the centerpiece of the story, the Tribunal and Dagoth Ur it is fitting that we should be a little amazing upon seeing the heart of a god. Thinking about its destruction; will you dismantle it to give it a proper ''destroyed'' animation?

Big size of heart is wrong way, i think.
Instead, Auri-El flung the heart down to Nirn, intending to bury it forever. (http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Lorkhan#Lorkhan.27s_Heart).

That just means it was thrown onto Nirn. As a matter of fact, that article states not a line before that Nirn itself is the remnant of Lorkhan's body and that the heart was the literal heart of the world.

I don't know about you, but that says big to me.

The heart belonged to a divine Aedra. It can be any size we want it to be.

I personally don't think it should be black. Lorkhan is a neutral figure in the monomyth. A black heart seems to be implying a certain malevolence that I don't think the heart itself actually posesses.

This gives the Heart of Lorkhan a visual consistency with the heart stones from the Dragonborn DLC, which are volcanic rocks that have remnants of the Heart of Lorkhan's power.

I like the idea of making it consistent with the heartstones but even they weren't charcoal black :P

The heartstones seem to be powered by being near the heart for so long, but seeing as that's the case, they have a red glow to them, which is probably stronger on the heart itself than the heart stones, making it a little more red than the heart stones are (but still volcanic rock).

[External image]

In the middle the texture is more of a reddish color than the rest of the rock (not the molten parts), maybe something like that.

Another thing would be cool (but better suited for another topic, since it's ck stuff) would be for us to add heart stone veins around the heart for consistency (they don't have do be minable).

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Auriel%27s_Bow :
The Bow was said to have been carried into battle by Auri-El himself against the forces of Lorkhan during the Ehlnofey wars of the Dawn Era. When Trinimac defeated Lorkhan and tore out his heart, Auri-El fastened it to an arrow and shot it long into the sea. The heart landed in the sea and, over the next millennia, Red Mountain eventually formed around it.

big heart... small bow... impossible.

Iniquitybig heart... small bow... impossible.

The appearance/scale of divine artifacts Is malleable, to say the least.

I say the Heart should be big, but not enormous. Sayt, approximately man sized.

maby a bit differtent than u got nowe but cant u make a gaint dark kristal haert whit a red glow tumping in the middel and whit every tump the red glow creeps out of the craks it got

i am no artist and couldnt find a picture that comes close to it but somthing like this but more like what u already made and way less bricht

Well, if you're going with physics in this one, the heart would be nothing larger than a dove's heart.  I'd say the heart of a god would be considerably larger than what could conventionally be carried by an arrow.  This is a land where Vivec stopped a 'moon' hurtling down at full speed with only his mind.  Imagine what Auri-El could do with an arrow!

What I mean is that the bow, as with Aka itself, does not hold one definition, but many. At times, Aka is the size if a plane(t), other times a dragon, or a merish ancestor spirit. There is no one set way it or its weapon appear, and tends to reflect what mortals believe it to be. The same can be said for Lorkhan's Heart.

In short, The Imperial Library (http://www.imperial-library.info/) and the official Bethsoft lore forum (http://forums.bethsoft.com/forum/16-elder-scrolls-lore/). If you want a more specific answer it may take a bit of time, as I can't remember off the top of my head which texts discuss the nature of divine aspects.
