Morroblivion crashes when I select New Game, Installed everything on the download page

Submitted by DwemerArch on
Ok, first of all I'm in love with you guys <3 Played Morrowind 1 year and 4 months straight when it came out so I can't even begin to express my excitement for this project! :D However, right now it's like standing outside the gates of heaven with St. Peter being all like "Sorry man, there's something wrong, I can't let you in yet" :'''( I've downloaded everything and installed everything on the download page but when I choose New Game I see the Oblivion Intro of the Emperor and when it has finished playing the game just crashes! leading me to believe that there are a few files missing. So what I am hoping is for me to go through exactly what I have downloaded and installed and ask for your help to pinpoint what I may be missing! Thanks in advance for your time! Ok, Let's see...I have downloaded and installed: MorrowOblivion Full Installation Part 1 MorrowOblivion Full Installation Part 2 Morrowind_ob Support Files 2 Morrowind_ob Version 019 MorrowOblivion_World Transport V2 Unofficial_Oblivion_Patch_v3_2_0_Installer_Version-5296 Vivec_race_for_Roberts_male_body_mod-14932 obse_0019b OBSE_-Elys-_Universal_Silent_Voice_v93-16622 Vvardenfell Imports 1 Vvardenfell Imports 2 Vvardenfell Imports Addon Vvardenfell Imports Patch 1 Vvardenfell Imports Patch 2 Bonemold Armor Replacement I have installed Morrowind GOTY and the Morrowind and Oblivion folders are right next to each other Are there any file configurations or ini files I'm missing? Also, the readme reads this: "Bloodmoon & Tribunal ================================================================= Bloodmoon_ob.esm and Tribunal_ob.esm are both EMPTY. All they contain are File Headers; they are not needed for any reason (other than some older mods requiring them). Conversion Notes ================================================================= The conversion setup for this Master uses the defaults that are included in the ESP_Converter from Galadrielle. Other object replacements should not be used otherwise that may prevent meshes and textures from being converted that this Master expects to be there. Exceptions to the defult INI files are a couple of trees and the ground models for Iron, Orcish, and Steel Armor, whose meshes and textures are included in the Support Files download." I can't see Bloodmoon_ob.esm or Tribunal_ob.esm anywhere or the "setup for this Master uses the defaults that are included in the ESP_Converter from Galadrielle" What am i missing? :( What have I done wrong?

When you installed Oblivion, did you also install Shivering Isles, and then the official patch, and then the unofficial patches for both Oblivion and Shivering Isles? Cause that is what you should be doing. What is your load order? What program are you using to manage your load order and mod installation? Hint: morrowind_ob.esm should be loaded right after oblivion.esm, with nothing in between.

I have not installed the unofficial patch for Shivering Isles The program I'm using is Wrye Bash, going to download and install the patch now

Downloaded and installed the UP for SI and still no luck :(

Load order and how many other mods installed ? It could be that you have another conflicting mod running. Does Bash detect any conflicts? Have you tried rebuilding your bashed batch?

Ok let's see, Load Order is:
Click here to expand or collapse this section
Active Mod Files:
00 Oblivion.esm [SI]
01 Morrowind_ob.esm
02 Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp [Version 3.2.0]
03 Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch.esp [Version 1.4.0]
04 DLCShiveringIsles.esp
05 MorrowOblivion_World Transport.esp
Bash does not detect any conflicts and I don't know how to rebuild bashed batch Thank you for helping me :)

Thanks. First off, the UO SI patch should load AFTER shivering isles. But that's probably not your problem. You may also want to get Better Oblivion Sorting Software to help you optimize your load order automatically. So I am assuming that you just installed the textures for Vivec_race_for_Roberts_male_body_mod and Vvardenfell Imports and did not enable the ESP files? That should be fine but just checking? Does the game run without crashing if you are just running Oblivion.esm and DLCShivering Isles.esp (and the rest of the mods are disabled)? If not, then you may want to start over from scratch and reinstall. Note that if you are on Windows 7 or Vista you should install in any folder BUT c:\program files\ ... I use c:\games\ If the game DOES run without crashing with only Oblivion and SI enabled, then try enabling the unnofficial patches. Then try enabling morroblivion. This should help determine what mod is causing the problem (if it is a mod). Also try disabling OBSE. Are you running oblivion using the OBSE launcher (which you need to do for it to work)? With that few mods, you shouldn't have to worry about the bashed patch.

Looks like I've found something which I'm lacking :P What is MWSE Launcher? Is it a download, is it the Morrowind GOTY launcher? While I wait I'll try enabling and disabling the different files to see if they work

D'oh, I meant OBSE, oblivion script extender. You don't need Morrowind Script extender obviously heh. Edited to fix. Make sure you have the most recent version of OBSE: http://obse.silverlock.org/ and that you've followed the installation instructions.

Ok, I see. Well I've tested it out and it's definitely something with the Morrowind_ob.esm file. I do have Oblivion installed on C:\ but I don't have anywhere else to install it, but it does run withouth the Morrowind_ob.esm file Maybe I should try a new and clean install?

That would probably be the next step, yes. If it helps, figure out a way to "check off" each step that is in the installation instructions so that you don't miss anything.

Alright, it's too late for me to do that no so I'll have to do it tomorrow. But thanks so much, even if the problem wasn't solved you've made me aware of some vital stuff :) We'll see how it turns out tomorrow ^^

My guess is that you are running Windows 7 or Vista, have installed Oblivion to it's default location, and are running into User Access Control. If you are on Windows 7 and installed Oblivion to it's default location, you need to reinstall to a neutral location such as c:\games\Oblivion and c:\games\Morrowind Technically speaking, the Shivering Isls mod itself does not need to be active. The game just needs to be patched for it, and needs the resources for Golden Saints.

As david said, C:\Program Files is not a good place to install if you have the newer versions of windows so change that. If that does not help then try this and tell if still crashes: Instead of starting a new game, load this savegame (its at the end of the imperial prison sewers where you finalize your character). Then fast travel to Anvil Docks and take the ship to Seyda Neen. On a side Note: The game works fine without Shivering Isles, Vivec Race, and Roberts Male Body ... I've tested it. Ofcourse I haven't chanced upon a golden saint ... and am not visiting Vivec ... but still it shouldn't be causing a CTD.
