Landscapers Wanting to Contribute

Hello everyone,

I am in charge of landscaping for the project. As of late we have gotten quite a few of you coming to help Skywind with your imagination and skill. We will collect your contributions and give you insight into what needs to be done in this thread regarding Skywind’s landscape. We will attempt to make a full list of all that is needed, however it is likely that this will change as we advance in the project.

Before you take an assignment

At this stage, we only want experienced level designers to work on the landscapes. With the amount of assets, style wanted, consistency and time needed to achieve this, only those with genuine experience and can spend over a hundred hours to the task will be able to help with exterior landscaping. I'll repeat that unless you can spare > 100+ hrs (realistically more, much more) then this is not how you can help the project.

Be sure to introduce yourself properly. This is as a courtesy to your fellow artists on this project. This will also serve as an opportunity for you to tell us if you have any particular ideas for certain areas in the game.

We will try to find you work that suits your skillset and style. You have to be prepared for some disappointments however – even really good ideas will be rejected if they don’t fit Morrowind’s style and atmosphere. We don’t want to limit anyone’s imagination since it is the core of creativity, but a designer needs to be flexible – and we need consistency in our game’s style so it feels like a whole, and not like a bunch of different bits and pieces thrown together chaotically.

When you are landscaping

Keep in touch with me through the creative process. It’s a team effort, and every idea needs to be constantly reviewed and discussed with other members of the team – this cannot be stressed enough for landscaping in particular. If you do not communicate with us and create an entire area, it is very likely that you’ll have to start over if we ask to change certain elements. We wish to avoid situations like this as much as possible. We can provide you with inspiration and references. We have careful consideration for the different aspects of Morrowind’s overall feel and we want you to understand our vision before starting a project. I will gladly discuss and share what I’m working on too – as every artist needs some feeback, and the more – the better.

We strongly encourage that you play Morrowind to familiarize yourself with the variety of environments and locations found across the game universe. We want to give life to Skywind the alien creature and culture on Vvardenfell. Keep this in mind while thinking of the different kinds of elements to incorporate into the landscape.

This thread can cover submissions and examples of things we could use for environments. We need to rebuild each of Morrowind's different regions and climates and learn how to make the world believable and above all - immersive.

What you will need to know

How to make new assets: This is vital to landscape building. You will need to learn how to copy some of Skyrim’s assets, and how to properly name them in the engine for smooth communication with everyone on the project. For example, 0ma = Skyrim Molag Amur assets to use in that region. There are also some listed as 01ma as well. Just filter the search with that depending on the region you are working on. If you use a new Skyrim asset, it MUST be duplicated, renamed and retextured using the same format.

Download the stripped version of Skyrim: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByQVbq7PZPW5aFJmUFpNRlpqMFE... stripped version is what you need to use. The normal skyrim.esm is too large to us with Skywind with it. There is an automatic converter you can download in the download too. "WrldMorrowind" is what we are using to landscape, so have a look around the world so far.

Claim a region: As it stands, there is a lot of regions to do still. If you want to do interiors and dungeons, look for that thread. If you want to landscape, check the updated grid claim map here; https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiQVbq7PZPW5dHpmSmxnU3RrZ2hIRlpsRDlhY1lUQXc&usp=drive_web#gid=0

This is not completely accurate though, and most regions still need lots of work. The regions that haven’t been touched or needs a lot of improving are Azura’s Coast, Sheogorad and the Grazelands. People have already started most of these, so check the threads and coordinate with the current artists for which areas you can work on.

Ask questions: We need to actively check out each other’s progress in order to ensure the quality of the landscaping. Don’t be afraid to open up and really show us how you’re portraying what you’re working on – it may inspire others as well as make you privy to some good insight by other members.

Please check in with me if you have any questions or require assistance.

Regions

Ascadian Isles: Almost done, needs ground texture blending and clutter for empty areas. Volunteers welcomed.

Ashlands: Northern part worked on by SquallyDaBeanz and will be finished soon. Eastern Ashlands needs work still, coordinate with Squally.

Azura’s Coast: Being worked on by SquallyDaBeanz and Thermocrius, mostly all claimed. Not accepting volunteers at the moment.

Bitter Coast: Needs attention to objects in water. Coordinate with HappyChappy if you want to help.

Grazelands: Awaiting meshes and concepts before real work can be done. In the works, for now, not much can be done.

Molag Amur: Worked on by SquallyDaBeanz, mostly done aside from ground texture blending and clutter in empty areas. Volunteers needed to help clutter the ground and fix mesh bugs. Plants, rocks, etc need to be added still. Assets are being worked on.

Red Mountain: Currently off limits as all assets are being remade. no volunteers needed at this time

Sheogorad: Being worked on by Nahlo, coordinate with him if you want to help.

West Gash: LASentry, coordinate with him if you want to help. Volunteers appreciated.

Clutter

Most landscapers come and and do the general landscaping. This mostly includes large rocks and mountain meshes without paying proper attention to the small details. Local flora, rocks, and other details are ESSENTIAL to making an area polished and done. Don't forget about the things at or below eye level when playing. The player needs to be kept in mind at all times, and it's the small details that bring the world to life.

IMPORTANT

When it all comes down to it, you cannot forget about THE PLAYER. It is easy to make a beautiful and detailed landscape, but if the player isn't able to explore and discover it, there is no point. Always be aware of creating a world around the player. One place of interest should lead to another, and they should easily be able to navigate an area.

There is a lot of landscaping to be done and not enough volunteers. If you are new to the creation kit, I encourage you to take the time and learn it. It takes a lot of practice to get familiar with it, but when you learn it, it’s one of the easiest and more fun jobs that Skywind has to offer.

Hey folks,  I'm a graduate

Hey folks,

I'm a graduate of product design, so have plenty experience with Photoshop, Illustrator and Solidworks, though solidworks is not too much use here I'm just giving the idea that I can get my head round design packages fairly quickly. I tinkered a fair bit with the original Morrowind con. set, building rooms caverns, gardens, transporters with sketchy lore reference... high emporer of the mages guild has certain perks in that you can have a transportal in your gaff... erm.. like I said, sketchy lore friendliness!!

I'd love to help out with this project, both to aid a truly honorable project of rebirthing the Nerevarine and to selfishly build up some game dev. skills! I spotted it in December, though I just bought the Morrowind expansions yesterday. I think I would probably like to first get my hands dirty with landscaping (gonna repost this in the other thread in a min).

It's about 4 years since I've played Morrowind so need to get into the game again. I will be getting stuck into that from today in my spare time, I wanted to check in with you guys to express my intentions first though. I'm green but I'm pretty sure I'll pick up what I needs to be known soon enough and for now will work on what you think most needed.

Ambit Great to hear someone

Ambit

Great to hear someone else is interested in landscaping. All I can say for now is download the stripped.esm, pick a region, and start playing with the creation kit. It takes awhile to get used to it, but if you're as experienced as you say, you won't have a problem making the world look beautiful. Start a thread showing off your work once you reach that point, and contact me for advice or Happychappy for technical support. Other than that, welcome to the team, and I hope to see your work soon!

Thanks SquallyDaBeanz, can

Thanks SquallyDaBeanz, can you let me know where to access the current esm? I'd like to walk around and get a feel for what others are doing and see the standard we're trying to achieve up close.

I couldn't see anything anything in the Skywind Downloads section. Am I missing something obvious?

hey guys, I am interested in

hey guys,

I am interested in helping with landscaping in skwind. I have built multiple plugins for vanilla skyrim that revolve around landscaping, external structures, and npc AI packages which add up to be 40+ hours of experience with the CK. Do not have any other activities, so i have enough time to work with the CK.

The devs has made amazing progress reviving one of the best games ever created, and i would like to help. Thanks for taking time to read my post, and considering me for helping.

I'm not working on the

I'm not working on the Azura's Coast anymore (I don't think - Thermocrius hasn't said much lately and his stuff needs more fine tuning with textures and placemen but who knows, he might have already don it). So you can take me off Azura's coast and just leave me on West Gash until further notice :)

Hello,  I am interested in

Hello,

I am interested in helping with Landscaping in Skywind. I'm kind of new to the Creation Kit, I've used with a few Game engines before, such as Cryengine 3, And Unity 3D. I would love to help with this project. I've been playing around with the Creation Kit. Trying to learn it, I've made a few test maps and I think I'm starting to get used to it. Could you please advise me on how to get started?

Thanks, Cameron Boughton

Well, since navmeshing will

Well, since navmeshing will have to wait until most of the landscaping is done, I figured I'd try to help out here.

I've played almost all the TES games (including Morrowind), and they are my favorite gaming franchise. I want to help revamp Morrowind to be the game it should be.

I'm interested in helping out with landscaping (obviously), and I'm fairly new to the CK. I'm willing to learn to landscape as I need to. If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Hey there!

Hey there!

My name is Marcel, I'm a freelance graphic designer / photographer for about 8 years (being 24 now). Though my latest stuff has been done quite some time ago, due to my studies and work, I've never given up designing.

I do have some experience with Cinema4D, but I'd call it rather experimental. There's never been a real project I would have finished, because there's never been a reason.

Now there is. I just love the idea of bringing the old lady back in shape and redefine the land that tought me a) gaming, b) English (I got the English version of Morrowind "by accident" before I even spoke it well enough) and c) love in falling into another world.

Actually I've played all TES games since morrowind and had a quick look in Arena and Daggerfall. I'm familiar with the content and would now like to get familiar with the landscape instead of just wowing over it.

I haven no experience with the construction kit.

I therefore would like to get in touch with this project with a kinda small region or whatever to just get into the programs and stuff.

Due to my studies (economic engineering and administration) and my vocation (industrial mechanic) I'm pretty familiar with laws of physics, constructions and all that sort of things, if this could be helpful anywhere.

Programs I'd rate myself excellent at: Adobe (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), MS Office

Programs I'd rate myself as familiar with: Cinema4D, Solidworks

In a nutshell: Willing to learn, willing to contribute ;)

Hope to hear from you, thanks!

Edit:

Almost forgot: Here are some of my older works http://gegenton.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=0

Newer stuff is customer oriented web/print design and most like not mentionable here :)

Greetings!

Greetings!

I am Nick S., a current High School Junior, and would really enjoy being part of this project. I am an extremely avid gamer and have played Fallout 3/New Vegas as well as TES: IV/V and participated in multiple ESO Beta events.

My goal after high school is to get a degree in Computer Game Design and I would love to be able to work on this project to bring Morrowind to a more modern state.

I have some experience with C++, UDK, Visual Studio Express, and Blender. I have not worked with the Skyrim CK but I am always willing to learn.

Because of my studies, I would not be able to contribute as much time as I would like to for this project; and, I would need to learn how to use the modding software. However, I am a very passionate gamer who would love to contribute to this project and see it through.

I hope to hear from you and thank you for your time!

I'm claiming the Southern Azura Coast. We need to have some clarification on who exactly is working on what part of Sheogorad.

Ah ok, I haven't been in communication with everyone lately, I've only just gotten back because I've been doing solid work so we'll all have to get together for a work presentation so we know where everything is at.

Hi, I'm a fairly experienced

Hi, I'm a fairly experienced landscaper who has experience with Unity 3D and definitely the Creation Kit.  Currently I've been developing a Quest/Landscape mod and I'm learning the dark secrets of LOD...

So, I'd love to help with Skywind, I've played plenty of Morrowind and will play more, so do I just download the .esm and pick a region?  Cause I'd be glad to help as much as I can!!!

Hi guys,

Hi guys,

I'd like to contribute to this project in the landscaping section for now. I'm experienced in making nice and natural-looking landscapes from scratch, as well as in cluttering and adding or removing (sometimes less is more) details. Immersion and realism (even with fantastic touches) are my top priorities when creating landscapes. I'm pretty used to the CK because I already spent 323 hours making my own new-land-mod using it. This mod is a fairly large island without inhabitants because I'm aiming to create a wild world with untouched beautiful nature and landscape. If you want to check it out, look it up on steam (it's called "Griffin's Land"). For further references of my work you might look at my screenshots on steam, most of them are shots from my mod.

Considering your project and your needs I'd like to help you with the area of Ascadian Isles. I like the green and quite tropical look of this area most. Best would be to create a completely new area but I would help cluttering, too, if I have to.

One thing that has always

One thing that has always confused me in the original game was the fact that you could buy the bloat spore ingredient but could never harvest it yourself, yet the flora itself existed in the data folders and there was a mod that fixed this. Does any one know if bloated spores where imported at all or placed into the game? If not I will start working on that.

Okay...

Okay...

Going to give this guy a bump map for the bottom, and a light glow map for the top ring. After this I will remaster 3 of the missing music scores from the official soundtrack that where excluded from the games content. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Music

Hm.... sorry for no replies.

Hm.... sorry for no replies. The recent flood of voice acting working kind of drowns everything else out.

As far as this bloat spore plant goes, I guess this isn't exactly the place to disscuss it. This is mainly for people who want to do level design work. However, take it up in the 3D model section and see if it can be remade from scratch (all items have to). Then the landscapers can make good use of it.

Also, good luck on the music!

Hi everyone.

Hi everyone.

I'm really interested in the work done on Skywind thus far. I am fairly familiar with Oblivion's Creation Kit and interested in helping with the landscaping / clutter of the world. I'm meticulous in the details and can do the heightmap editing, apply textures to it but more importantly place clutter/ plants /details. I cannot do 3d modeling/texturing though. The only downside is that I have to attend university classes and I don't know how much time I can spare for this project. I'd have to familiarize myself with the new creation kit but the creativity is on my side. ^^

I could maybe clutter a few interior cells if the time is not on my side. Good job everyone, you are great!

Do I need to download any

Do I need to download any additional textures or models before I get started on cluttering caves?  I have the Skyrim master file in Creation Kit, so do I need any other tools?

I am really excited to contribute so let me know what you need done!

Hello Creators of Skywind,

Hello Creators of Skywind,

I'm Bonehead14 and I am very interested in contributing to skywind, I've been follow the progress of your expansion closely and would very much like to be apart of this amazing community project.

I've used Creation Kit extensively, creating my own personal mods and understand CK well. I also know at least the basics of Script Editing.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40186/?tab=3&navtag=htt...

Landscaping and Cluttering are what i'm looking to do and believe after studying Photography & Art at college this would suit me perfectly. I don't really have a lot going on right now so time isn't an issue I've got plenty to spare.

Thank you,
