[MERGED] Merchants Broken, Mages Guild: Escort Itermerel

Submitted by kittie885 on

This not being able to sell and buy items from merchants is driving me nuts. I tend to collect a ton of items from looting and it's beginning to weigh me down and I have no idea where I might find a safe place to stash it where the game won't reset and make it disappear. Is there a way I could force the merchant menus open? Any codes or anything I can type into the cheat menu to bring me to the screen? They all just ask for the notes from the guild mages quest and won't bring the screen up.

Try pressing ~ for the console

then type:

SetStage fbmwVAVampBlood 50

Then save your game and reload.  You may have to talk to the merchant once or twice before the game realizes that quest stage has changed.  If that doesn't work, try 55, or 60 or something higher than 50.

Note that if you do this, you won't be able to do this particular vampire quest later (at least with this character) - setstages only go up, not down.

Please let me know if that works.  Anyway, this will be fixed in the next version of the mod, but for now you can trade with Arielle and RaVirr at least hehe.  David did mention he thought he might get the next version out this weekend.

Thank you! I will let you know.

[Edit:] Unfortunately it didn't work. It successfully braught up the message that the mission was completed but did nothing to help the merchants begin selling, they continue to say "so you got the notes? bring them to me". I have yet to find the two npc's that you mentioned that you said could buy and sell things. I'll look for them

RaVirr, Trader, in Balmora.  Single building near the armorer and the fighters guild/mages guild

Arielle, at the tradehouse in Seyda Neen where you first start the game.

If those don't work either, your problem is not being caused by what I thought it was caused by.  Since the SetStage didn't work, go back to an earlier save before you entered it so you can still do that quest later.

I am assuming you are having this problem? http://morroblivion.com/forums/morroblivion/bugs-issues/1176

I found RaVirr and Arielle. They do the same thing, whenever I click on the button to trade or get training they only respond with "so you have the notes? Bring them to me" from the mages guild quest. They all started saying it when i began that quest "Escorting Itermerel". It doesn't sound like the issue being described in the forum thread you linked me to because he just states he "can't trade" and the option to do so "doesn't come up", where I get the classic buttons at the bottom of the dialogue screen but clicking them just says "so you have the notes? bring them to me". I also successfully attempted to summon (via oblivion mod) a merchant from Cyrodiil , however when attempting to trade with this merchant they also say the same thing. Every npc who has the option to trade or train says this.

I have tried troubleshooting by deactivating all but the morroblivion essential mods and trying again to see if any of my other mods are conflicting and causing this error but it didn't help. I have long since completed the Itermerel quest.

Ok so there is a problem with the way the "Escorting Itermerel" quest was written.  Try:

SetStage MG_EscortScholar2 100

Also, what version of Morroblivion are you using?  If you're not having the other Merchant's problem, you must not be on the most recent version (021).

I am using version 21 and the issue only began after I switched, however switching back to V20 didn't fix it so i'm not certain it's specific to 21. I typed in SetStage MG_EscortScholar2 100 and it said it was not found for paremeter quest. Could this be because I already completed the quest, or is it missing and maybe what is causing the problem?

Not sure... Someone likely borked the quest when they scripted it / set it up.  Will have to look at it in the CS later.

Thanks for letting us know about it.  Moving this thread to the bugs and issues forum.

Thank you for taking the time to put attention to it. I hope it can be fixed.

Oh yeah, the quest is probably called something else in Morroblivion.  That was the morrowind name of the quest.  I don't have the CS here to look it up, but try:

SetStage fbmwMG_EscortScholar2 100

Otherwise, someone else will have to look up the actual quest name in the CS...

 it is this:

fbmwMGEscortScholar2

so try:

setstage fbmwMGEscortScholar2 100

Tried, typed it into the console and hit enter. Nothing happened, I got no popup screens or anything so I excited the cheat console and tried to buy something with no result. It continues to ask about and for the notes.

I just tried it and it worked for me. You can try this following line before you try the setstage line:

startquest fbmwMGEscortScholar2

and then put in:

setstage fbmwMGEscortScholar2 100

The fact that I already finished the quest wouldn't affect it? It would do it again?

So, you already have the journal that says "I delivered so and so's notes to What's his name"? If not, put in both those lines.

If you already have that journal entry (which means the quest is finished), then I don't know how you'd be able to fix this. You would have to wait until someone fixes it with the CS, and even then it might not be fixed on that save file.

I think I see what the problem is. I'll make an ESP for you and then we can see if it's fixed. If not, you'll have to wait for the next release.

Ok. Just for noveltys sake I typed in the startquest fbmwmgescortscholar2 2 and it did nothing, same again with setstage fbmwmgescortscholar2 100. Yes I finished the quest and my journal says that. If worse comes to worse I can revert back to a very very early save game when I just joined the mages guild. I really would prefer not to have to do that though, as I'll lose a couple of levels and a lot of stats. Theres no telling if I revert back to that save if I will be able to complete the itemerels notes quest without the same problem happening.

here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?0uftb2smf8s2f2h

put that file in Oblivion's Data folder. Then activate the ESP under Morroblivion's ESM in the mod manager. Then load your game and try again.

No affect.

Oh well, I tried.

For anyone who wants to take a crack at fixing this:

Queen left out conditions on a piece of dialogue in this quest. The topic is 1ItermerelAsSnotes1 and the dialogue is "So you have the notes? Bring them to me."

There should be a condition that the player doesn't have the item and that Ranis is the one saying it.

Reverting back to a previous save before I started the quest fixes the ability to trade with merchants and get trained. I'll have to play again from this point. I'll use startquest and setstage to do Itemerels notes quest and see if it happens again. If it doesn't that may mean that Orator's fix may fix it but be unable to fix my already saved game which in that case may be scrapped.

[Edit:] Tried setstage to complete Itemerels notes quest and completed the quest this way. The same problem cropped up so this problem is triggered by the quest. I'm sorry Orator but I don't think your fix worked...

On another note, is there a chance anywhere I can get a list of the setstages for the mages guild quests so that I can type them into the console and skip ahead to where I was instead of having to do them all over again?

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Mages_Guild#Mages_Guild_Quests

there you can find each quests stage numbers (scroll down to the journal entries). To get the quest names, you'll have to open the ESM with the construction set, press the Q button on top, then scroll down to fbmw. Look for quests that start with fbmwMG.

But I don't think you should bother reverting to a different save until someone fixes this, because without those missing conditions (and whatever else may be wrong with the quest), the problem will still be there.

Thank you. Yeah I learned that I can't do that quest if I want to continue to be able to trade and train in my game. If the next release of V22 comes out Sunday and fixes it then I'll go back to playing my current saved games. If it doesn't fix it or doesn't come out Sunday then i'll just revert back to the earlier saves and avoid the mages guild until they do get fixed. The mages guild of Morrowind itself isn't such a loss to me because I am already the head of the Cyrodiil mages guild.

Whomevever wants to work on this also might want to check the kahjiit in the transporter room of Balmora's mages guild too. The one who gives you your very first mages guild quests. I finshed all of her's and now whenever I try to trade or train from her she just thanks me for the items I braught her. It only happens with her though, the dialogue isn't widespread through the Morrowind npc's like Itemerels is, so I considered it more minor. But it makes me wonder whom else is affected or if the problem is bigger than a single quest or npc or something.

I see the esm has been updated to version 22! I tested to see if it fixed this quest buggy and it doesn't. Am I the only one having troubles with it? I don't see anybody else complaining about not being able to do the mages guild quests...

You might try this again:

startquest fbmwMGEscortScholar2

and then put in:

setstage fbmwMGEscortScholar2 100

But otherwise, you may be effed and have to start a new game or go back to before you started that quest.  D-:

Assuming of course that you upgraded v021 -> v022 properly.  D-:

I don't think anyone worked to fix this. I just tried it with the new ESM and the problem is just like he says.

edit: OK, I think I found the bug, for real this time. I'm going to try and make a fix. If it works for me, I'll upload it for you, Kitty.

I fixed it!

http://www.mediafire.com/?01wpsgl975ahpnq

Just like last time, copy this esp to your Oblivion data folder. Activate it in the mod manager under morroblivion, then load your game and try again.

Thank you for the Fix, Orator; there is no telling when I would have gotten to this. Orator's update will be included in v023. Thermador has also just sent me more merchants, plus, Nobeus's books were just a little to late for v022, so will be in v023 as well. So, v023 is starting to shape up already!

Thank you Orator. I will try this in a couple of hours when I have the time and let you know how it goes. I'll update this post with an edit. Stay tuned.

[Edit] Great news it worked! I loaded the saved game with itimerels quest already finished and I am able to open and use the trade and train menus! Great work!

You should probably wait until the next version to do more Mage Guild quests. I fixed more of this stuff in different MG quests, and it should be implimented in the next version.

Alright. I'll do other stuff in the mean time. Thanks so much for working on this!

Maybe pay attention. This has been mentioned at least three times. This is due to an error on my part. It will be resolved in v023. There is also a new bug tracking system you are supposed to use for things like this...

oh, kk :) I'll remember it. Thanks 4 fast answer.

Hi,

I have a problem. Everytime if I try to get a service, I get a message:

"I understand the temptations of scholarship, but this is not the time to joke around". As far as i know, the last service i have taken before the Dwemer Tube Quest. Since then i have made the Quests until Bethamez. Also I have done a part of the main Quest (i have taken the cube and bring the informations to Caius). So I think, the problem is because of one of this quests.

A new Mage Guild Rank doesn't help me.

Any1 could help me? :)

This issue was resolved in v022

Still not fixed in v022.

Downloaded and installed recenty. Got bug with "Escorting Itermerel", got it fixed with patch from Anonymous, but then reappeared after some quest for mage guild and now every NPC, when trying to learn or trade says:

"I understand the temptations of scholarship, but this is not the time to joke around"

Will check in 0.23

This was fixed in v023, see the post for the v023 release:
