Can't start Ahnassi quest

Submitted by radulpik on

Is there a specific way in which to get the Ahnassi Smooth Moves quests to trigger?  I remember it from Morrowind, but can't seem to get it to trigger.  I went on and joined the thieves guild already to see if that would help, but still no smooth moves.  Disposition is 72...

Anyone have an idea as to what I'm doing wrong?

Are you a male?

Yup.

To start the quest, you need to be male and have high disposition with Ahnassi

@roxon_55 Thank you, but I've been through the page already and just reconfirmed I hadn't missed something.  Still baffled.  I feel this happened the last time I loaded up morroblivion too which is why I'm finally asking - in case something is different from just using Morrowind.

@GendunDrup Yes.  Thank You.

Ugh
To double check - you say above your PC is FEMALE? That's the opposite from what other material says.

Going on the assumption that's a typo I just reloaded a lv 1 player.

Male.
Not a member of Thieves Guild.
Upped disposition to 83. Asked,,Background,,Join Thieves Guild,,Latest Rumors,,Little Advice,,my Trade,,Pelagiad ====> At this point the choice to ask about "Thieves Guild" is not present.

Went to Balmora, joined Thieves Guild. Returned to Pelagiad and entered dialog with Ahnassi and "Thieves Guild" is now present. Asked. She says she'd enjoy wrestling with me... Still no quest start, no book. Charmed her to 100 disposition, no difference.

Yes Player is Female this is Oblivion Engine you can play both Sexs unless it is Written to Be only Male.

Unless it is to do with Player being  Level 1

I've no idea then.  I've done the same with a lv12, though he was a member of the thieves' guild when I talked to her.  To check on what you said above - you were NOT a member of the Thieves' Guild - but still had the option to ask about it?

I'm going to muck around with setstage commands and see what comes out of it. Too bad, it was one of the more memorable quest lines from the game.  Thanks for trying.

Just editing my speed and agility to 100.  That triggered it with the lv1 non-thieves' guild member, but not the lv12 thieve's guild member.  Guess you really do need some Smooth Moves.  I'm getting somewhere anyhow, thanks for the help.

Might need young qwertyasdfgh on it,He will have more of an Idea,, my Player Speed 48,,Agility 50,, Level 20

I'm going to muck around with setstage commands

I'd rather you didn't. This will make troubleshooting much harder.

Please use this esp and talk to Ahnassi again. You should get a special greeting if player is male, has agility >= 50 and Ahnassi's disposition is >=50.

Thank you both for the help.  I believe my earlier problem was that I was already a member of the thieves' guild with my lv12 character - and had only an agility of 41.  Once I bumped that up to 50 and removed the faction rank the quest activated.  Unfortunately I could not advance her quest to the next stage.  No Smooth Moves", no "Her profession" dialog choices.

Interestingly, after I installed morrob_ahnassi.esp and switched to the lv1 character who I made female after discussing with roxon_55 I could not trigger the quest.  Sexchange fixed that.

From what I gather, your .esp now limits the gender availability to male only - which in hind site I think is unfortunate, though truer to the original requirements I concede.

My lv12 male and the lv1 sexchanged using your .esp allowed me to advance the quest (50 agility, 50+ disposition).  The lv12 was a thieves' guild member and did not get the book present, but was able to choose "Smooth Moves" then "Her Profession" and received the quest entry to steal the belt.  That's as far as I've gotten.

In summary: In my experience, the new .esp limits the gender to male, but allows both members of the thieves' guild and non-members with 50+ agility and 50+ disposition to begin and advance the quest at least to the belt steal.  Non-guild members get the extra journal entry and the gift of the book.

Thanks again for the help.  I'll let you know if anything strange happens re this.

This is how it is supposed to be - TG membership doesn't affect the start of this quest, it only affects whether or not you get the book (the idea is, TG members don't need it).

Following up on this - my quest line went a bit wonky.  Somewhere in the "Cure Skooma" quest opening dialog it auto completed and let me proceed to the gift of flowers.  Quest line went dead at this point.  Even J'Dhanner thought he was cured when I first talked to him.  Much much later when I realized what had happened I went back to test and I couldn't get it to repeat.

After I setstaged to move me beyond (yes I know troubleshooting nightmare, but I was way too past the point where it autocompleted to restore) now when I complete the "Flamemirror Robe Gift" I receive 20 Ebony Shortswords!!!   http://www.uesp.net tells me it should be 20 Ebony Throwing Stars.  I don't think the quest reward should have been affected by setstage.

Sorry I can't be more help on the earlier problem.  If I'm ever at the point again I'll be more rigorous.  Thanks again for all your work!

I have to admit I never got the quest working myself but never looked into it any deeper. There are no throwing stars in Morroblivion because the engine is too different. I'm pretty sure it can be reimplemented the way Unnecessary Violence does but the cons probably outweigh the pros. So you just get short swords or daggers. The "darts" in the Black Dart Gang quest are simply used like daggers as well.

Quest: Ahnassi Special Friend

I can't get the quest to update after returning from giving J'Dhannar the book. Asked Ahnassi Share a Care but goes in a loop back to the quest I just completed.

According to Wiki, player learns J'Dhannar gone back to Elsweyr and Ahnassi invites you to her home. Can't get this to happen, have I done something incorrect?
