Do y'all plan on adding spear animations? I don't know much about animating but i figure if Bethesda can add crossbows as a new custom weapon with new animations it might be possible to add spear animations? Thoughts?
oh well that really sucks.
oh well that really sucks. why cant modders do it?
hardcoded to engine
hardcoded to engine
oh well thats a damn shame
oh well thats a damn shame was really hoping for them
I guess we could make them
I guess we could make them one-handed and use the staff animation. I know mods exist that do that. Spears were traditionally used one-handed, anyway. This is just my opinion, though. I think it's a bit silly to be swinging a spear around like a big club. :P
So no progress has been made
So no progress has been made on cracking the whole animation thing I take it?
Alex but i saw a mod on nexus
Alex but i saw a mod on nexus that added new close combat (fist+kicks) animation. Isn't the same thing?
yeah, new punching anims, but
yeah, new punching anims, but not new acotrvalues. Like a new weapon type.
damn that is a shame. I know
damn that is a shame. I know they tried to make new animation for spears @ BEth but the project was never completed, or the HigherUps didn't approve .....
Hmm in which files are the actor values stored? and which libs contain the functions that call these AVs? Do u have any ideas?
Is there absolutely no hope
Is there absolutely no hope for adding new actor values in the future? Is their unique stuff really impossible to crack? If so then I'm a sad panda.

I like this idea (i actually suggested this a while ago - that's how much i like it ;) ) and i think this is the closest we can get to a spear animation for now. Also - it would look sick if we had some of the guards just holding the spears and the shields in their hands, they wouldn't even have to move to much ;) one of the problems would probably be the fact that when you cast a spell with a staff, the animation isn't that bad (for a spear) but its really slow which could give ridiculous resault. I realise its not the perfect solution and it might look a bit off, but for now it's the best we can get. Unless ofcourse we cant even do that due to the problem alex was describing. Sorry, i dont really get whole ck/hardcoded stuff.
EDIT:
Also! @Jorgen
[ANOTHER EDIT]
@Alysander - is your post directed to me? If so, then what don't you get about my post, what should i explain exactly?
Explain please how that's
Explain please how that's related to actor values?
Hmm i checked a bit this and
Hmm i checked a bit this and this.
Can you (alex) pls be a bit more specific how animation function interacts with these values ? From what i imagine, animations should be hooked to weapon type and a command key in order to trigger it. Basically if we add another animation to the two handed weapon types (as spears may be considered; 2-h axe for example) and we assign it one of the trigger commands (power hold and forward for example) this will probably try to execute the same animation for other 2h weapons (2-h axe ), and it will result in a conflict as they don't fit.

I'm not sure there are enough staff animations to really fit spears into that. As far as I can tell they only have Idle and Cast animations. Though I could be wrong, I can't find anything I can say is a staff animation in the BSA, so don't go quoting me on that.
If they do indeed have enough animations to fit in a melee weapon then I say staves should be made into two-handed weapons (Which is a separate variable from animation type in CK, for instance I can give two handed swords one-handed animations, but still keep them as requiring two hands) as they were before Skyrim (And change the spells on them to double damage to account for the loss of dual whielding with them), and then their animations replaced with with new ones that fit pole weapons in general. (Halberds I'd just keep in the Axe category)
spears will happen, probably,
spears will happen, probably, eventually. We're just waiting on fore to implement alternate anims.

Get this guy on board! This needs to be seen by Alexb, Eloth and everyone! Holy cow!
also as far as i know it isnt
also as far as i know it isnt the skse feature of just swapping anims on the fly. as far as i understood he managed to replace the one handed power attacks with his animation and assigned them to the spears. as you can see in the video the 1handed attacks just work as normal. he also said npcs would use the javelins and spears without issues (quote: "@Urwy
Correct [External image] When you have a sword equipped you will use the sword animations, when you have a spear equipped you will use the spear animations.
@TheGreenLion
I would also like to have some 'overhead' thrusts too [External image] I have them on my to do list
Actualy I should probably note that due to technical limitations, I have only been able to replace the power attack animations. However to compensate for this, NPC's wielding spears will now use power attacks much more frequently. Also, power attacks with spears will cost quite a bit less stamina and give a smaller boost to damage. I could also increase the amount of stagger caused by power attacks but I'll go through all this later when I'm balancing the gameplay.")

that requires new actor
that requires new actor values. only beth can add actor values.
