Let's not forget there is a lot of geological activity on Vvardenfell altogether. There are very unique formations all over the island, and it isn't difficult to believe there could have been an earthquake powerful enough to displace some rock formations through time while leaving others intact. Red Mountain is a precarious volcano, so it's not hard to believe some rumbling could have screwed with the otherwise more natural look of the West Gash. It looks absolutely stunning.

Camp underneath it? I assumed it was a lake with under water entrance to a cave :D I actually would have just ran there to see ;)

But a camp is very nice, too, especially because of the shelter idea :) Well thought!

Sorry for double post! Oo

Double post? Well the camp was already there, it's a map marker location.

Honestly I think the West Gash concepting is pretty straight forward. The bulk of the work is replacing the mountainous ridge between the West Gash and Ashlands and also around the water ways. The way the rocks look really speaks for the look of the area.

As a general rule of thumb all of the rocks that were added with the IDs "0WGMountain" can be replaced or removed with the new assets.

Ok, sweet - I'll just keep going with that then. I did hear that the Northern West Gash is meant to look quite a bit different to the rest... Are we still doing that or should i make it similar to the way I'm doing now? As for replacing the mountains, so far I've only been using 3 different assets so hopefully I can get 2-3 more to get some diversity. Also, Squally is making a path from the West gash to the Ashlands as part of his landscaping - I'm not to sure where it is though, so we'll have to talk about it so I can leave a gap for the moment.

Get clarification on this. Certainly as you get closer to Caledera it should phase out to the existing landscaped look. Balmora to about Hleran Ancestral Tomb has been done nicely already in my opinion.

A lot of work has already been done to the non-mountainous areas, you can tell but the number of placed assets with the "0WG" editor IDs.

I think we can leverage using leaf grasses in the area. Kind of like below, but far less leaves, and textured to West Gash leaf colours. These can be painted around areas of trees.

Ok - I'll see to it. Eloth asked me to do the entire West Gash which is why I was confused by the red outline around Balmora to Caldera on your landscape map, so I'll need confirmation on that too. Eloth said he was also replacing the Balmora cliffs (I think it was those ones) with the new red-rock style so I'm not really sure what's happening there.

Ok, will do - I haven't got much time for the next week but hopefully by then 0.9.2 will come out and I can continue from there.

Here's the latest version (After 0.9.2 update). Just some minor changes to rock positioning and filling in some gaps, moving paths etc.

Just started adding trees and blending leaf textures into the ground - I have to check up with the lead landscapers to make sure I am using the trees appropriately but here is a screenshot in-game.

I think it'll be hard to use the trees incorrectly for West Gash, just use them sparingly and should be ok.

Ok - thanks!

It looks great! by that I mean natural and thats pretty much as good as it can get :)
keep posting screenshots plz I love seeing the progress ur making

It looks pretty good so far, though on the second picture, I think you should try to blend the rocks  bit more softly into the ground, and smooth out the edges of the grass next to paths. you're making good progress on the region!

Heres how I generally picture the west gash, maybe you can use these as inspiration-

@LASentry Could u make souther parts of West Gash more 'bushy" greenish and north parts more dry, yellowish and like semi-desert. To create some latitude (I thinking about whole West Gash region)

I was having this problem but it seems to have subsided, so that's good.

I'm also not sure whether to pursue this style.

I'm also not sure whether to pursue this style.

Mainly because it would essentially mean starting again. Not from scratch, but yeah.

Latest version. Instead of just going straight to the more desert feel, I'm doing it over time, otherwise it's just tedious.

Hey LA,

I'm really digging the badlands/canyon style for the northern West Gash. Looking and comparing it with Balmora in-game (which is also in the WG) maybe a good way to transition the landscape would be to slowly add more vegetation and gradually change the hue of the rocks to a more traditional beige/brown. Look at Canadian Shield rock formations for some pointers (see; here), I think it illustrates a solid example of how the West Gash can have a varying biosphere.

Hope this helps, you're doing some crazy awesome stuff.

Awesome, thanks! Yeah, that's essentially what I'm doing, I'll also be adding more of the current style rocks further south. The West Gash is a big, open region... No matter how much I plan it, I can't get it to look how I want. Any suggestions for that?

If I were to give a suggestion looking at the last picture, this valley could be ideal to create a Grand Canyon-esque sort of piece. There's quite a bit of potential to play with verticals as opposed to making huge open spaces like in your previous shots. I think it would be possible to give the West Gash a few natural corridors and make them look seamless as well as convincing. Rather than repeat what we've already seen, it might compliment it.

May be in need of a couple more assets for this though.

Yeah, that'd be awesome. And yeah, no good assets :|

I like it so far keep adding more variety between close and open spaces.

Update: All pointed rocks now point in the same direction. Implemented a Caldera (Clearly a WiP, but the idea/preperation is there). Also, formed path up to Caldera, may put stepping rocks to the other side to act as a path.

I really like the idea of these craters, as long as they are perfected and fit well within the landscape they will look awesome. It must be hard with those assets to make everything blend but I'm sure you will make it work. ~ Mycroft

Witchcraft! That's how you're to talented. There's no other explanation.

It looks great, although I did find two issues which may or may not be part of your plugin. It could be on my end only so you would have to check.

Absolutely LOVE the crater. Adding the water also really gave this a special touch, a lot like typical canyons while still making it feel distinctively volcanic. If you can pull off deep crevasses with tiny rivers streaming across the Gash, I might just have to marry you.

Thanks! Those old West Gash models aren't even going to be there, so discard those. As for the water sticking out, yeah I need to fix that. Sorry, coordinates are -16 21

All our waterfalls appear from underground rocks, so i wouldn't worry about that sort of thing.

Great job LASentry! The only thing that bothers me a bit (and sorry to be a color correction bitch [External image]) it's the BROWN presence in the middle of that amazing redish landscape! Please if you don't want to implement it on the final mod I hope you make an optional red ground texture! Just try it and check on the feedback later on!

Adjusted the dirt texture to blend better with the rocks. It looks a bit too pink in some parts but I have already fixed that.

Lakes are awesome. Really makes more impression then vanilla landscapes.
---
Please not make too much eroded "gates" and pillars. They are good when they are rare.
IMHO: (someone made really too much and too big in ashlands)

> All our waterfalls appear from underground rocks
On this island from underground rocks more likely to expect some boiling salse dirt, than water.
