[REQ] Kwama Cave Concepts

Submitted by grumpycat on

I was wondering if anybody wanted to take shot at concepting potential Kwama lairs?

Basically if you've seen one cave in Morrowind you've seen them all.

I was thinking about Kwama egg nests, everything quite alien looking.

Even different Kwama eggs

Maybe a sort of hive concept?

Keen for people to do a take on it to solidify something we can flesh out

May be we can extract one good idea from that : eggs can be attached to walls.

I can't really make it out very well, why not take mold, change the color to a more yellowish hue matching the worker's bodies, as if it is the saliva/ goo of their bodies, spread around for insulation etc?

in only a few rooms, like the queen's cavern...

while they are different species, we could also use the chaurus for inspiration, such as in frostflow lighthouse

Something like the Elytra tunnels in Shivering Isles maybe

The idea is that there is a gooey webbing to cushion the eggs as the grow and fall from the roots

would be cool to see a corpse wrapped up by blighted kwama silk. the forager always looked like it could spray silk

Hey folks.

Here is a kwama cave concept i have been fiddling with. It doesnt look like a hive yet but at least this could be a cave where the hives remain.  I will add eggs here and there.

This looks really promising! Love the athmosphere and colour scheme. Gives me a bit of the Alien movie vibe :D

Maybe this is a stupid idea, but I've always thought it would be neat if big glowing mycelium roots spread around caves, almost like a spiders web, but less intricate, more delicate, and branching out around dead things (decomposing). They could yield an alchemical ingredient, mycelium, which just by the name sounds like it could hold potent alchemical properties. Perhaps they could even be like a substitute for those spider web things that you slash through in vanilla skyrim.

Alot of the whole mushroom motif is seen as mysterious, magical, and beautiful but I think an oft forgotten side of them is how simultaneously disgusting and hairy and slimy they can be, and idk I think kwama caves would be the perfect place to flesh that out.

Bioluminescence is really getting out of hand. Soon enough everything will glow in the dark and our Morrowind will turn into Las Vegas. I'd definetly keep it out of the Kwama caves, Vvardenfell at places has some muddiness and subdued colours in it. Glowing mushrooms are slowly turning to be our new basalts, I know they look attractive, but we need something to counter the "magic" fantasy feel, so that when it happens, it's special and pops. I'm also not a big fan of the new trend in fantasy, to put glowing crystals or mushrooms all over caves. It makes them look too cartoonish if overdone.

= kwama eggs was glowing initially. Many caves in MW had glowing crystals and mushrooms.
= i am particially againt it, but MW was Las Vegas from it;s start.

Kwama eggs were glowing indeed, and I'd be okay to keep that, especially with the colour of their light. But other than that only glowing things in Morrowind were Koda flowers and Luminous Russula, mostly in Bitter Coast. The only glowing crystals were probably crystals soulgems are made of, found in Telvanni towers and mage caves, but nowhere else.
I don't remember any other glowing things in Morrowind.

Yep you listed them all. Coda flowers and mushrooms was very popular in mages caves, indeed.
I am not so-like old eggs design. Would be nice to make other plant/creature glow instead them.
