This willl be lengthy and on going.
Moutrave has been looking at the area and modelled some things for me, eloth and I came up with new ideas for grazelands a while back, and we're still aiming for our "vision" though we never really got it put down on concepts.
We'll get to colour themes later, but the 1st things I wanted to try work on were the 2 new "tree" types.
Eastern Corkbulb and a Mushroom tree (needs a new name, called it "moutrava tree so far after the guy working on the area :p )
Mushroom tree 1st:

wow moutrave made one of the coolest trees ever :)
These look amazing. Any ideas on what the rocks and other plants will be like?
Rouadafis seems like a good sounding name for that shroom :P Means "rain bowl" in Dunmeri. Rouvulis could work too, the "rain-cup".
@Ravanna
It looks like dragon tree from Socotra and Baobab from Africa. Good ideas.
Sweet!
"Rouvulis" (moutraves raincup) i love it :)
For some reason, the raincups remind me of lemon and strawberry flavored popsicles
At the moment, I am busy with other tings for Skywind, though I wish to give the corkbulb a go later (some for every region) What about Centific's?
Here is some recent progress. I dont have time to do much more, hope Moutrave is more available, and perhaps Happy can input something with his experience in trees.

Moutrave can also create zbrush textures so I'm going to leave him to do branch textures for now.
Some idea for "bushes", based on Moutrave ideas
2 types of texture. Lighter one and darker + a bit different mushroom cups.
leaves should be more like in MK concept
Not so plain like in MW due to lacks in computing power. And oval shape similar to trees here.
3 types of leaves. With similar colors.
It would be good to have some bushes 0,5-1 m height with sth like below
Especially for northern areas.
Lukkar, i recommend to you look on plants of Proteaceae for bush/grass references.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proteaceae
@alysander
Thanks buddy. They were great.
I have more for grazelands. It fits to high grass I think. Matte, dry plants, 0,5-1m height.
------------------
To keep cohesion of this region I propose use only small size leaves. Then they are more similar to grass. Yeah, in my Easter Corkbulb examples are quite big, but they can be smaller with greater quantity.
------------------
Fo Moutrave trees (earliest stage) we can do sth like that. Of course if it would fit to landscape, if not, just get rid off it. This is quite easy asset to do.
gibe me photoshop layers if you have them.
Here you have png. if you like.
Thnx. I think you can draw textures already. On black background.

hmm, it looks better in engine than I thought. It can be better of course. The only thing which I don't like are "flowers" on the right. Btw. it is any possibility to face them always horizontally to player?
-------------
And one thing it can look good only in small scale, but we need bigger.
What is this? Alys please stop it. You cant use concept art as textures.
Just a blank/CA. No way that this can be a model.
> Btw. it is any possibility to face them always horizontally to player?
= Looks like no. And this is really strange, bcoz Beth used it in Oblivion.
= I used billboards in my programs on OpenGl, and i am sure that they don't use many computing resources.
> corkbulb

= yep. It's pretty close already. Need some fixes/improvements though.
P.S. i think you can add some sort of labels on pics.
@alysander
Yeah, this example is quite close, but leaves should be more dense and "grassy". I will do update with my leaves examples.
Yeah. I've done update. I think alysander you can use your previous model. Just stretch it visually in vertical and create "grassy" version of corkbulk.
--------------------------
horizontal line I would call "visual" division. To keep this consist I propose use "lines" shapes to bottom flora (red lines on bottom). You have all lines kept in triangulates shapes. Above line you have triangulates shapes with triangulates, but connected with lines. Yu have some contrast but sth common too. Sounds like insanity, huh? (look at picture again)
Than we have contrast in shapes, which create quite consist view. It can be break by rocks, maybe trees other things, it depends on level designer.
------------------
We have main grass colors yellow, green (not too strong), orange?
From green on south to yellow/orange? on north. We have YG or YGO, right?
So we can use pointillism here to create smooth transition. By mixing it we have sth like RGB. Now I will talk about colors of trees. Trunks should be nice greyish color separator. So nothing too saturated and too contrast. Leaves can be monochromatic compare to grass, and flowers completive (Of course without blue). Then we have quite easylooking landscape to differ.
I hope it is clear :) And I'm wait if you it would work or not.
--------------
Moutrave tree can be just variation of this. So near higher ones could be clumped younger examples, not so high.
Now it's hard to say if it will work or not, But it need to be checked.
I hope nobody minds if I necro this thread. The grazelands is a region we haven't really seen an update from so I'm really excited to see what you've done with it :)
How I always image it to look, is like this african grassland with baobab trees: https://www.google.be/search?q=baobab+tree&client=firefox-b&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwil7K_ny4DUAhXEbVAKHc0PBEgQ_AUICigB&biw=1280&bih=555#imgrc=I7ub4Cb9Kva1UM:

I really like the new corkbulb tree art, hopefully it will be in the game!
Hope to see an update on the region this year :)
Yes we have some corkbulb baobab trees as well as the mushroom cup ones.
Yeej :P
love all of this. :)
