Say you can't make this standalone, there are a lot of people who would whine. among other reasons, one is the lore. How could you go from skyrim to Morrowind without breaking the lore i thought... Then i thought, that about finding an ancient dwemer city during an excavation and investgating it would be a good idea. You could add all these morrowing/style elements, even the dwemer city itself being made unique to morrowind and the monsters inside too.. until you find a big room with a huge orb, small dwemer puzzle to unlock it (obviously) and the front opens up like the front door to arkngthand (google it morrowind) and reveals a portal, from which a few enemies come out of and fight you. The ruin around you starts breaking apart and you obviously have to jump through. little time jump cutscene first person style and then it goes black and you wake up in the boat, no memory and no stuff. You will also recieve a quest to help a wizard fix a dwemer city in skyrim (teleports you into it and you cant get out so you aren't in the one from before, but back in time skyrim version. he goes crazy from the power, you kill him and then you can go back, but it tears a hole in time above the ruined city and that is where you come back to and you can go back and forth that way. I don't know, hope it was good but i appreciate constructive criticism and even ignoring this haha.
never played falskaar haha, i
never played falskaar haha, i just thought it might make the lore a little less messed up, even though that is impossible to completely fix haha. i don't know, it should require you to do a quest or something, that's all i know.
You say a major problem is
You say a major problem is the potential for any "lore" conflicts; despite the fact that the scenario you just typed is completely lore-shattering.
The irony; its... delightful.
i said "less" i think.. well,
i said "less" i think.. well, that's what i meant. the dragonborn walking through a gate and suddenly back in time as the nerevarine is more "lore shattering" then him/her finding an ancient dwemer ruin with a portal to take him back, etc.
Not really, considering that
Not really, considering that's basically what your portal is doing anyway, time-travel aside. Regardless; its still the Dragonborn "becoming" the Nerevarine; how it happens doesn't really matter, its still a major continuity error. This just sounds like more work for the team that ultimately doesn't solve any problems, sorry.
Wait. Are we seriously doing
Wait. Are we seriously doing THESE threads again? How far we've come...
Consider it done!
Consider it done!
Creating a new Dwemer city can be created by SquallyDaBeanz. Should only take about 6 months, so he might as well hold off doing the Azura Coast and recruitment development video until this is done.
Big room with a huge orb (SquallyDaBeanz can level design that as well)
A small dwemer puzzle to unlock it (DigitalParanoid will work on the scripts and I'll concept out what that puzzle can be),
A large door to reveal a portal (Dragomir will get straight onto concept art for that, and Ravanna can model it),
Few good enemies for good measure (AlexanderB will get some creatures to suit the scene, and we could even do varieties after all its during Skyrim timeline not Morrowind so a straight port of a Morrowind creature might look odd).
The ruin around you starts breaking apart and you obviously have to jump through (Ehamlopitan can work on the NIF animations to simulate the model breaking apart, should only take him a couple of weeks. Again Ravanna can work on the custom models)
Jump cutscene first person style and then it goes black and you wake up in the boat, no memory and no stuff. (We can get Tyrannicon to look at doing this. We might have to pay him some money, but it will be worth it in the end.)
You will also receive a quest to help a wizard fix the Dwemer city in Skyrim (DigitalParanoid will of course do the quest part here).
Teleports you into it and you cant get out so you aren't in the one from before, but back in time Skyrim version. (So we actually need to make 2 version of the city and alter it to make it look like 4th and 3rd Era. Eloth can do the alternative version, should only take about 2 months after Squally has finished the first version).
He goes crazy from the power, you kill him and then you can go back, but it tears a hole in time above the ruined city and that is where you come back to and you can go back and forth that way. (Ehamlopitan will have to do the special effects of the portal)
All in all only about 8 months for the entire Skywind team to do this, so it will only be a little delay, but well worth it.
Happy, that just made my day.
Happy, that just made my day.
Dark Destiny it may be good
Dark Destiny it may be good for people who are absolutely dead set on having a 'lore friendly' way of traveling between the two provinces but its simply a big task for someone to take on. If people want it so badly they should make it themselves, the dev team have more important things to do.
No offence of course.
After all is said and done,
After all is said and done, and the main Skywind mod is complete, and for me when Skyblivion is complete too, I'd be more than happy to help contribute to something like this and potentially other mods for skywind such as ashfall, especially considering by that time we will have more complete tools and obviously more time. Up until that time though this will have to remain as mere ideas
HappyChappy's comment gave
HappyChappy's comment gave give you a pretty good indication of how much effort would have to go into such a thing, regardless of when it is attempted. While it's cool that you're thinking creatively, I'm going to have to be blunt here and say that I think this is one of the worst ideas I've seen on these forums, sorry.
I think that perhaps we should resign ourselves to the fact the Skywind and Skyrim will never have a lore-friendly transition, time travel or not. In the main story in Skyrim we see the dragonborn 'peering' backwards in time with the aid of an Elder Scroll, but I think it's fairly obvious that he is doing nothing but looking- characters of the time are neither conscious of or affected by the dragonborn's appearance. Time travel is relatively unexplored in the Elder Scrolls and is simply too powerful a magic for a mere mortal to stumble upon without some serious events and ramifications, taking us further from the lore anyway with the creation of said story. On top of this it's likely that the majority of people who are wanting to carry their level 100 characters from one game to another don't care much for the lore anyway, which kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thing.
Even if the wonderfully hard-working development team were to take on other projects towards the completion of Skywind, I think this would be a very bad investment of time and effort. To link two very separate games that are, in my opinion, much better separated in the first place seems pointless, regardless of whether or not they're kept in the same package :)
Dragonborn finds the
Dragonborn finds the Nereverine's personal journal. When he opens the journal he "reads" about the Nereverine's adventures but is actually playing it out how it happened. Since the Dragonborn is playing this out in his head, he substitutes himself in place of the Nereverine when he is reading.
Open the journal -> go to Morrowind
Close the journal -> back in Skyrim

Then how do we justify the carry-over of items and the progression of skills? Not to mention different armor systems and the like.
not exactly sure, I would
not exactly sure, I would think we don't carry anything over. 2 separate games with a book to transition between them. Maybe the book has a script to log you out of skyrim and log into the morrowind game. Like in Skyrim when you go to the main menu screen and load a different save.
If you have to start fresh
If you have to start fresh then what's the point of linking them in the first place? Why not just have an option to choose which game you want to play at the creation of a new character? This is what I mean by keep them separated.
I really don't think there's any way they can be logically and lore-friendly linked in-game, and will be worthwhile, but I will literally print out my words and eat them if you can find a good way. I'll post pictures of it too :P
The point would be to get the
The point would be to get the best out of both games, you have Skyrim and Skywind and switch back between them when you want. Then you wont have to recreate a character you really like the look of and at the same time, you are not being OP and carrying anything over.

Isn't there already a mod
Isn't there already a mod that allows you to travel from Skyrim to Skywind via the Dragonborn fast travel?
Can't people just think of a 'lore-friendly' reason that they're going back in time? Its not like time travel has never been done in the Elder Scrolls.

And what I mean is, its
And what I mean is, its called an RPG for a reason, just roleplay it. Like travel to high-hrothgar, open up one of the elder scrolls, then fast travel to Skywind.
You can even just COC to Seyda Neen and roleplay something.
With all "great" suggestions,
With all "great" suggestions, maybe Maiq the liar in game should mention something about this.
"Maiq has not heard of this 'time traveling' with the Elder Scrolls or Dwemer portals. He does not know why others keep telling Maiq this is possible."
Bullocks I say

To keep the time-travel thing
To keep the time-travel thing more believeable, I think we should link this with skyblivion. You use an elder scroll that sends you to the prison boat. Once you get out into Seyda Neen, three Oblivion gates open and Alduin flies out from the ashes of Red Mountain. That would satisfy the lvl 100 challenge, and the consequences of trying to swim upstream in the rivers of time.

Wait a second... I can't tell if you're joking or not...
Dagoth Ur Riding Alduin,
Dagoth Ur Riding Alduin, spawning Oblivion Gates... Yes... Yes... That is it! We just need to be sure that Liam Nesson will voice Dagoth - and Patrick Stewart will voice Alduin... And yeah obviously Sean Bean will be the voice of Oblivion Gates.
