Vampires

As I am building out the vampire quests, I decided to start with the vampires and their abilities. In TES3, vampires are usually part of a bloodline, though there are some rouges (maybe they moved in from another geographic area). Therefore if a bloodline/clan vampire infects you, you get the special abilities of that bloodline. This has nothing to do with the clan/faction itself. As I read it, a Berne vampire who isn't a clan member can still give you the same abilities as anyone of the clan members.

Right now, we have 3 variations of the Health Drain spell which triggers the infection. One for each clan. So I will make a 4th version for the non-clan vampires. This means they can't give you any special powers and you can't join that clan (since it doesn't exist). Therefore, these are probably the worse vampires to be infected by because you get no benefits.

For the other 3, you get the abilities and start at rank 0 for the faction. This will allow you to enter their home without being attacked but would be attacked by the other clans. From there, you can get the various quests of that clan.

That is as far as I got. I'll work up the clan quests next. Lastly will be the vampire cure quest.

Not completely true. There are clanless vampires in the tombs. These are still part of the 3 bloodlines just not ranking members of a clan. UESP claims there are 5 rogues. I think I found more in the CK, but there are also vampires that aren't in the game (never spawned anywhere). So there are even more than the 5 they mention.

So it is possible to become part of the Berne or Quarra bloodlines from meeting one in a tomb. That would allow you to then go into their lair without having to kill everyone. I agree with you that going to their lair first won't do you much good since you would kill everyone before becoming infected and that would be pointless.

Okay, so I will track them down and assign each to a clan. Democracy that actually works.

I'm about half way through the quests. This is letting me see if there is anything else about being a vampire that may need changing. I'm already seeing an issue with the Skyrim 4 levels of being a vampire. It's been years but from what I can remember, being a vampire in Morrowind was kind of simple. None of this changing of spells and abilities as you skip meals. I'm thinking of hacking all of that out of our variation of the Skyrim vampire script and setting it so once you are a vampire, that is it. No changing to level 2 or becoming the enemy of everyone at level 4.

One main issue for this is that Morrowind vampires don't use the same spells and skills as Skyrim vampires. And the spells they have don't become more powerful with hunger issues. Kind of clean cut and easy to work with.

In the meantime, cattle have a new faction and are also members of the clan. This should stop the current battles you encounter when you enter a vampire lair today. Also, they don't report crimes anymore, so you should be able to freely drink without causing a bounty. Once I get the rest of the quests done, I'll test all this out.

Did anyone else remember that there are non-vampires in the three lairs who aren't cattle? I'm going back through the actors to make sure everyone has their correct spells. I had skipped this issue before but now I need to decide what to do. In Ashmelech (Aundae clan), there is - Iminda, Jeanciele Macile, Odmi, Ticemius Conciatius, and Toranu Rothalnim. All of them are normal (not vampires), not cattle, not in any faction, and have no specific dialogs. The UESP doesn't give any indication either. Any one know why there are common people wandering around in these lairs? I'm tempted to make them vampires just for additional fodder. But if there is some bigger plan for them, I'd like to know.

Nevermind.

From what I can tell, only the Aundae clan has these people. Looking at the area layout, they are all in either locked rooms or prison cells. Therefore, I'll leave them alone. Sounds like a good opportunity for someone to make a mod here...

Here it is.

There are a few quests that are still buggy and need someone way more skilled than I to clean up. These include -

VAVampHunter - Can't get Ano's death to update quest.

VAVampRich - Actor you fight keeps attacking even after you reach below set health level.

VAVampCurse - Script to damage you to half health doesn't work but the rest of the story does fine.

There are probably some other minor issues I can't think of right now. My biggest problem seems to be in getting vampires to give you the vampirism disease. They cast plenty of spells at you but that one is very rare. Not sure how to tweak the combatstyle to fix this, there doesn't seem to be a way to select one spell over another.

There is a script to run the TES3 vampire dream but that doesn't seem to be running either. I suspect because you must be flagged as sleeping at the exact moment it wants to run that script instead of whenever the next time you actually sleep.
